Not too much, but yes gain and a little reverb. Here is the signal chain. Fender Tele, Nobles ODR1 into a Flint Pedal for a dash of reverb and then into my 67 bassman mic'd up with a shure SM57.
I can usually get the licks myself & figure them out as close as I want to get. I only really want to learn about using effects like line level boosts or gain boosts or different ways to use drive pedals to get these rocked out sounds at lower volumes & it seems like there are much less videos on how to properly use effects like a professional actually uses them in the studio. Bobby Whitlock even stated that all the killer guitar tones on Layla & other assorted love songs album were recorded in the studio at extremely low volumes with low like 5watts or less amps. I see noone giving professional advice about doing these same things at home. You could make a killing showing people how to do these effects
I’ve always had the same problem with tube amps and effects pedals. I recently got a modeling amp (Fender Mustang GTX 100) and it’s wonderful for home use at lower volumes.
