This is where my brother was stationed when in the military, wow, it does look like 'snow' with the effects of sliding all over the road, just amazing!! "Another world for sure"! I just love your videos as you show some awsome sights.

Thanks so much, Carolyn, this video was like a time machine that took me back to White Sands in 1969 when I was in the Army and was stationed at WSMR. I loved it there and spent many hours sledding down the dunes! Good times! 💖

When coming down sand dunes - lean back and run (for the most fun) or walk zigzags (like on a switchback trail). Not only is it safer than straight down, but you extend the fun! (But you do get sand in your shoes so we always do it barefoot.)

Gypsum is compressed to form the center of Sheetrock. It's in nearly every home and is heavily mined in Nevada.

While we were there they were doing a snow skiing photo shoot. Girls were dressed in winter clothes in 80 degree weather. So beautiful at white sands.

A beautiful job on this video capturing the beauty! When you first started driving in to find a camp spot I thought “ why on earth would you want to stay at that barren looking place” but then you showed the sunsets and as I said captured the true beauty! And the white sands were fabulous!

Really a lovely place to visit not in the summer when it's really hot however, my friends and I would take a picnic and be there for sundown and moonrise it was great they also have full moon walks I believe out to the lake from probably the visitor center the other thing is a warning people have gotten lost and have died there so be very careful not to stray. In the summer make sure you have plenty of water but I really don't recommend daytime visits June July and probably August. Have fun and be safe everyone

You are teaching people to not just jut through places , but to slow down & read the signs , and to learn what you can about the places you pass through or spend some time at . But personally , I miss Carolyn traveling thru & exploring the southeast . I loved the green foliage and the trees . I don't care a lot about the west and it's various shades of brown & orange with sand , endless stones , and gravel . I personally love green .

that was a yucca plant not a tree and interesting fact about it is that the flowers are edible when they are blooming at the end of the stalk... also you can make a type of soap by crushing the roots and adding a little water.... also makes good cordage. when the seed pods are finished the seeds are edible as well.

For sleds... go to the Walmart about 2-3mi up the road. They sell for about a third of the price of what the National Park sells it for. BUT either way, you need to really wax up the bottom of your sled to slide. And that - you’ll want to buy there at the park.

What an interesting place...the visual paradox of our eyes"seeing" what's familiar to us as snow, yet our brain tweaking to comprehend the temperature, texture, and composition of what we know of sand. BTW: I've taught my dogs 2 very useful commands that come in handy around water. 1) "NO, drink." They will pass up a stream or runnoff that I know has septic lines above (here, on the beaches many homes have only septic). (I sometimes also say, "Leave it!" if necessary to emphasize.) 2) "Ok! Drink! For when I need them to drink, such as before a long walk or drive, I command in a happy voice, "OK, drink!" They learned this by my saying, ok, drink when I know they are really thirsty and they a great "reward" of water and also me being happy. My two pups are also 12 1/2 ( 13 in April & May) so I watch Capone and understand that sometimes he can't come on long, hard walks, my Frankie (a big labradoodle) is getting that way. Basiclly, for their health, I don't leave it up to them to make that water decision. I make sure they are well hydrated in the first place, then monitor what water they come across during our walks on the west coastal trails and beaches. Love ya Carolyn and Capone!
