I just realised how traumatic it must be for the older people (including that first lady) who lived through times when that kind of treatment was legal.

the way that white woman spoke up, stood up and stormed out of the establishment - made me cry. I have never in my 31 years of life ever seen or heard a white person defend us publicly, and out loud, and for no gain. Other than the fact that she was genuinely believes we deserve to be treated justly, fairly and equally. Just wow

As a white guy I deal with very little prejudice--one time I witnessed it so bad I'll never forget it. Walking into a Best Buy one time, I saw 3-4 black teens leaving. They set off the alarm. Security checked them like they might have stolen the Hope diamond. Nothing found and on their way. When my wife and I left, we also set it off. "Don't worry about it...just go through" same guy said. WTF? why not check us? I got really pissed and did ask for the mgr. I am still upset today. I cannot imagine living every day with that kind of target every where you go.

I wouldn’t mind prepaying for my orders, but if employees are not asking everyone else to prepay, I would definitely step in and say that it’s wrong. The same rules should apply to everyone in public areas and no one should be treated differently

It's crazy because years before that incident was brought to light in Toronto, my sister, myself and a group of our friends had gone to Hong Shing to celebrate a birthday and they told us we needed to prepay. We asked the group of people next to us, which included two non-Black people if they were asked to do the same and they said no. We left and then when we saw the news a few years later, we knew the patrons were telling the truth. I've never skipped out on paying and before that, I had never been asked to pay before being served.
