A close-up look at a spot of whitebait-fishing on the local river.
Whitebait are almost invisible, miniscule, transparent, juvenile fish that have just returned from the salty sea, and are heading upstream to live in quiet freshwater streams and ponds.
They are a bit of a delicacy for eating (whitebait patties), way too expensive to afford to buy, and are thus a perfect excuse to go playing down by the river with a big sprickley-net catching minnows - just like we did as kids!
