Akainu as a villian is just so great. His appearance looks so normal in anime- but espacially in one pieces zainy art, he is the only one that looks like a guy that you’d find as a manager of a liquor store. He doesn’t fuck around- goes stright to bussiness. He’s not evil for the sake of evil- he truly is just doing his job. There’s this great scene where oda makes it clear what akainu is- when a ship carrying the children leaves ohara, it was akainu that gives the order to sink the ship. Kuzan protests this but akainu say something that is so chilling: “if even one person knows about the void century- then the whole destruction of this island and killing of all these people would have been pointless.” It’s such a cold logic and it’s also something that makes sense but we can’t help but think killing kids is still bad even if robins whole existence exonerated akainu’s thinking as because of Robin surviving- ohara’s buster call truly was point less death.

It's mostly Anime fans only. Manga fans DO realize how strong Akainu is, since he and the other 2 admirals never had any trouble with Old Whitebeard in the Manga. Heck, Whitebeard had to sucker-punch Akainu in the Manga to finally get a (cheap) shot in, unlike here in the Anime, where Akainu literally craps his pants (nice one, Toei). Also, look at the wounds they give each other: Whitebeard hurts Akainu, yes, but the latter falls into a hole, which temporarily stops their fight, and then appears again to confront the entire Whitebeard crew while looking fine again. Whitebeard, on the other hand, gets an actual mortal wound (half of his head gone in the Manga) that would've killed him eventually (the Blackbeard pirates just accelerated his death). Whitebeard won the skirmish, Akainu won the long-term battle. And again, portrayal matters. NONE of the Admirals had trouble with (old) Whitebeard. It took one sucker punch to finally hurt Akainu. And yet, for whatever reason, Toei completely changed things up, and now, Anime fans think that the Admirals are much weaker than Old Whitebeard. Toei will have a hard time now making Akainu look like a threat, because they made him look like a b*tch to Whitebeard in the Anime.

@@Incog2k6 Now Luffy in Gear 5 is an emperor, he toyed with Kizaru and the Gorosei, we don't care anymore about Akainu's power, the only real treats are Imu and Blackbeard (the character must have a plan in the end to steal more ower and become one of the strongest in the verse)

I feel like once you see later stuff it's pretty obvious that people with a lot of willpower and determination can get back up from so much damage. This is just the first time where we actually see a yonko level fight which depending on the endurance of both parties can last days.

@@mastouriedam5845 BB's defense is shit, he takes x2 dmg and yet he still survives too. But i'm fine with BB because he recieved just a slash and a quake by an almost dead WB. My problem is with Akainu, WB's rage and AoE was insane in that last attack until the point of shattering Akainu's body 🤷‍♂️

They definitely give that ”final obstacle in the series”-vibes, by how insanely strong they actually are, even though their ranks are full of cannon fodder.
