Absolutely brilliant series with great characters. Such a shame we never got a series 5 to wrap everything up and it was left on such a big cliffhanger...
This is actually one of the best shows written and acted pre-2010. Genuinely terrifying and you really want the trio to win. I've watched this 3 times now and I'll watch it again this summer.
I loved the first 3 seasons of Whitechapel. I very much enjoyed the character, D.I. Joseph Chandler, played by a most wonderful actor, Rupert Penry-Jones. Actor Phil Davis was great as well.
I came across this show accidentally and I fell in love with it immediately. Awesome acting, amazing writing and i love the horror true crime theme and the semi supernatural elements. It was a shame they took it off. It's still one of my favourite October rewatches
I'm glad you like it! Re: being cancelled, as I say in the video, the ratings tanked in that fourth season. I don't think it had run out of steam, per se, but it was maybe getting close. It didn't have too many seasons left in it, I feel. I like series that 'get off the stage' before they outstay their welcome and become parodies of themselves, too.
Addicted to Rupert Penry-Jones and Phil Davis I made it through the first three series. Started the first episode of series 4, and that was it. Just too horrific.
That was a smart idea because if you didn't like that two-parter, the one that comes after it - I won't even say what the plot line is - would be off the charts scary for you!
I loved this show and have distinct memories of season one. And that final season... I want to rewarch it, but I NEED to find conversations about that final season as it has me feeling confused. Not in the sort of, yes. Of course it's confusing, thats the plan. More, I don't understand how we got here. I see all the parts. But this puzzle isn't making sense. I really hope you or someone else discusses it cos I need the help!
They had a great group of actors in the series..how many different stories did they do?? Jack the Ripper...the Kray Brothers...Eating Exotic Animals..did they do more?? I thought so..but cannot find them.
@@terricathcart6219 The first two series were awesome. The last one is mediocre. Not dynamic for me. They should have show us more of detective Chandler and his colleagues, their history and life. We don't know anything about Joe, his parents. They could shoot so classy scenes if they continue to shoot like in 2 season.
@@terricathcart6219 I just now watched the whole thing on Netflix (available in the UK, not sure where else...). It's such a shame it was cancelled, as there were quite a few things left to explain!
The part I liked in the first series were the characters. I avoid Jack the Ripper stuff like the plague. It's sooooo overdone. I didn't like the second series but it was the first time I heard about the Krays so it felt fresh to me. And I will always enjoy a show that gives Peter Serafinowicz something more than a cameo. I like the monster of the week format, so for me series 3 and 4 were much more fun. I don't like supernatural explanations in police procedurals, and I enjoyed that they came up with factual explanations after making a point of being cinematic and spooky. It's odd to say I really liked the show and at the same time I don't regret the cancelation. It became pretty clear to me that they were getting lost in the mythology. The old woman loose end would've gotten an unsatisfying explanation or no explanation at all in series 5.
