When I first listened to this album, I was really curious about the meaning behind the songs. I found articles that explained how these songs were about Phil's personal life. Like the song Black Bear is about his step dad, who he blames for his mother's death.

This is the ABYSMAL difference between selling out and maturing and morphing your sound notoriously without being artificial nor forced. These are some of the most beautiful clean vocals I've heard. From what I have read this is him letting go of his past and childhood trauma. I'm sure this has got to be cathartic for him!

This is him allowing himself to share his story, and his thoughts in a way only music could accomplish. It’s so surreal and suffocating, but in an addicting way. It’s almost a way that everyone can mourn with him, and he finally lets go.

He lost his dad when he was 10 and his mom when he was 15. Like Chef Vortivask said, this is probably cathartic for him.

Congrats man. I dealt with suicide and addictions. I recently decided (with persuasion of my fiancé) to get help. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Phil has always had songs to get me through hard times. But having an addict father and an enabling mother, this song hit hard. I still can't listen to it without crying or looking back at how bad I just wanted to end it all. I'm proud of you man. Keep your head high. You've earned your soberity and happiness. ❤️

I remember listening to this song when it came out also drunk, me and my boyfriend. After we lost a baby to a miscarriage he really spiraled drinking and tried so hard to be my rock and I was to lost to be his. Now he’s a year and a half sober and I’m a year in and we’re finally out of that darkness. I hope your life continues to brighten
