In this video, I am just showing you how I like to set up my Whites DFX metal detector right before a hunt. I am metal detecting in Denton, TX today. This video focuses on going through each setting on the DFX and (to the best of my ability) giving a description of what the settings does in a video. I have read the manual over and over and when I first got them out of detector, I could never find a video that would satisfy me on direction on how to use it. This is my main influence for making this channel, and this video is to produce content that I was looking for in the beginning. I never would have started a RU-vid channel funny enough if the Contant that I wanted to watch had been there. I hope you enjoy and message me for any other information you would like to know about the whites DFX metal detector.

Just got a dfx 300 that was barely used. No battery tho. I run an equinox now. Thinking of getting a battery and running the dfx a little

You can get one of the battery packs that holds eight AA’s for about 15 bucks on eBay. And it runs great depending on the situation. The DFX might be a little better than the equinox. I have so far found deeper silver with the DFX then I have with any other detector. But in certain situations, you definitely need the newer detectors. DFX is always my back up now since I got the manticore.

You have a good program you are running, I was demonstrating how the mix mode worked and the different tones work. You by no means need to use my program but it lets me hear everything in the ground so if I am hence the name between some iron or coming odd some I can hear that last bit of good tone so I can rescan the area the see if something good is done there of just getting false readings. The stock programs work very well, and work better than most other detector stock programs. This was demonstrating how much you can customize the Dfx and not miss anything. It’s definitely not for everyone, my dad hates it too and runs only on mono tone relic mode. Dc phase how ever is one of the most important things to understand if you take anything away from this video. If dc phase whould not have been an option I would have never found that Franklin half dollar with my dad in my RU-vid short video. It was mixed in with trash, coke cans, dime, pull tab and nails, but the positive 89 that I kept getting kept me digging to find it.

Sorry, I just saw this message. No, it is not waterproof on the box or the battery now the coil and wire if in good condition can go underwater up the shaft so you can swing it into the side of the lake and it is completely sealed there. But the connector on the box and the screen and battery are not waterproof just the coil and the stem and the wire.

You consider 12.9 volts low? My DFX as well as my Spectrum XLT run fine all the way down to the 9 volt range. Once you get below 9, however, the machine will usually just shut itself down. You're just wasting money if you don't use them until they have dropped to around the 9+ volts range.
@brazosTX
@brazosTX Год назад
I’m using lithium batteries and I can tell when it gets to 12.9 that one of the lithium batteries is about to completely run out. I don’t use the rechargeable pack or alkaline batteries. The energizer ultimate lithium give it a little bit more Umph and power (especially with the XLT), I’ve tested it several times and the energizers always work better. But the downside is when one of the batteries goes out they don’t slowly go out. They drop off immediately like any other lithium ion battery. When I used to run alkaline, the signals would start to weaken and yes I could get below 12.9, but I do like using the DFX at 14 V with The lithium batteries to have that same consistent power throughout the whole day, and not have the machine change on me at all. It’s similar to reloading. I want to be as precise as possible without any change in tolerances whatsoever, so I can correctly identify, trash targets, and good targets. 🔋💥
@brazosTX
@brazosTX Год назад
I’ve since switch to a manticore which I love. Now I just have to charge it once I get home or plug it into my extra battery pack with a few zip ties and can hunt for days on days.
@dshmechanic
@dshmechanic Год назад
Oh my...I owe you an apology. For some reason, I totally didn't even consider the 'all or nothing' characteristics of lithium batteries when it comes to their ability to maintain near constant output voltage right up until the bitter end. I should know better, too, as I am an electronics tech. Guess this is my 'blonde moment' for this week! Do you consider your new Manitcore to be a significant improvement over the XLT/DFX? I'm leary about upgrading because pinpointing ability and target depth indication are of HUGE importance to me, and as I'm sure you're already aware, the XLT and DFX shine when it comes to both. I bought a Makro Simplex Ultra last month, and absolutely hated it despite all the hype. I ended up returning it because I found pinpointing to be impossible, and the depth indication just as lacking in my opinion. But then, maybe I'm just spoiled by my XLT and DFX. I don't want to spend that kind of money and find out it's no different than the Simplex.
@brazosTX

@@dshmechanic why are you being defensive? I was just telling you why I use lithium batteries? I prefer them over alkaline and I also prefer a full charge. You don’t have to metal detect like I do. That’s the users option. Yes I do like the manticore. It is great I also like the DFX. I do think the manticore is an improvement over the DFX but I would still use a DFX any day of the week. I enjoy the new detector and I had the ability to purchase one. If you don’t want one you don’t have to go buy one. so whatever I did to you I apologize I want to be your bud. I never meant to insult you or anything I was just telling my opinion and my opinion might be wrong. Who knows I don’t know if the lithium batteries are even better than alkaline who knows. I just stick with what I do, you might know more than I do. @@brazosTX l needed a 509-0022 charger for my GMT and TDI SL and finally found one on ebay with a DFX attached... so I ended up with an new DFX 300 and have a new 950 coil on the way! Well I'm making a notebook data set for things like adjusting the sweep speed for different types of conditions, ect and following the cheet sheet in the back of the manual... I'll build a cheet sheet for each type of search application and condition and cary a field notebook to keep a record of the settings on any big hits. Right now I'm looking for the VLF that handles the hotest types of ground like we see in Colorado, ect and can still hits relativly small pieces of gold. Where a DD coil has to be used. I want to see how the newer detectors like the 800 and 900 stack up against the older GMT, GMT 24K and Goldbug Pro in dealing with hotter mineralized soil conditions. When they fail... then I'll run the TDI until it maxes out and then... break out a gold pan and ziploc bags and start sampling.

@@brazosTX I needed a 509-0022 battery charger for my GMT and saw one packaged with a DFX on ebay... On the TDI SL we can run modded 16 volt lithiums... When they tried 20 volts it overloaded and had to be repaired. 16 volt lithiums give the TDI a noticable boost...over the standard TDI battery packs. (blue and green). The DFX and TDI SL have the same battery packs... so we shall see... Right now, I can run the standard packs when testing and learning, then switch out to the eveready ultimate on a normal hunt day if I think I need to be deeper.

@@brazosTX The MXT has a boost feature on the gain... without all of the great must have features of the DFX. So we need the boost of the MXT on the DFX and maybe a volume control on the speaker. To get the updated features needed... I will be looking at some of the newer SMF detectors like the XP's and the Nokta Ledgend. I am thinking about buying another detector (probably several more detectors) and am favoring the Ledgend over the MXT ALL PRO, MXT PRO or MXT 300 as a next detector purchase eventually picking up a decent condition MXT 300 or MXT ALL PRO. I ordered a Detech 18" Arrow coil for the DFX, but I'm thinking maybe the MXT will detect jewelery deeper in parks and fresh water beaches than the DFX with the 18" coil running in elevated boost on the gain. All while waiting to see what XP is gona do about the quirkiness of the XP DEUS II (and its battery in the coil and wireless coil, ect (which nobody likes...)! While having the depth and sensitivity we all want in moderate soil.
@brazosTX
@brazosTX 6 месяцев назад
@user-yy4up8qf5m the DFX does have preamp gain which works in coordination with ground filtering and swing speed. When you get real in depth with the DFX, you can tune it to run perfectly. I can still hunt with it and keep up with a manticore. I do like the manticore a little better because of the waterproof and the weight. But the whites XLT and DFX are definitely still king of finding silver.

@jeanponce2017 Год назад
If you can't pinpoint it then raise the DC power it controls the DC power in the mixed mode and for pinpointing. I got mine in early 2000's I think 2002. I still take it out and give these new modern detectors a run for their money. They have faster updated modern tech but the DFX uses a concentric coil which digs deeper then a DD. And the DFX can still set the functions to do what any new machine will plus features machines today can't one being my favorite it's the DC Phase. The VDI is normalized so older Whites users can recognize the VDI targets using whites old 6.59kHz. SI then you pinpoint the DC Phase reading is giving a target ID from it's 15kHz frequency what it does is raise a coins VDI higher from a not so conductive targets with the same number as a silver coin at that number. With hitting gold at say 18 which is normally a nickel. The nickel phase reading jumps to about 35+ a gold ring being more conductive will hit the 40"s even the 50's on a thicker ring even in the 70's in rings where silver was a mixed allow to get a certain color of gold. In the manual there's a chart of VDI readings in 3 kHz and 15kHz. If you get to know the area targets hit in the 15kHz when you pinpoint and read that number it compresses conductive targets up high and expands a range on less conductive targets at the lower VDI then the normalized VDI reads. This cross reference with the signagraph showing iron which tells you to count of a lowered slightly skewed ID makes the DFX the most accurate detector I've seen. And I set the VDI display setting around 80. I don't try to get so picky with the 3 digit VDI unless it's clean farm earth with low chemical fertilizes like some old farms in Jersey still ha without all of those salts in the soil and all targets are within the same depth layer that fraction of a point can tell between a tiny trime and thin half dime two very small high conductive targets. People laugh if I break it out with their Minelabs today but after I pulled a seated dime behind Minelabs top detector then which was the CTX 3030 then I hit a 10 inch indian with a handful of iron siding nails in the same hole and the CTX 3030 could not even squeek out a chirp on that indian suddenly the old dinosaur wasn't so lauable anymore and I dug less big iron because when iron falses on the DFX the signagraph shows iron and the wrap around usually hits up at that +95 number so I just disc out +95 for wrap around. Silver dollars that something's might get close to it if it tried reading 95 it would also still show some 94, 93 or less at different angles but the iron holds fast on that 95 plus -90's where the silver shows zero iron numbers. Then it splatters the signagraph a big silver builds several bars. The next time you dig a nickel not how fast is stacks 3 or 4 bars. It's insanely accurate over a nickel. It's it only 1 bar it may be gold or tiny aluminum but that's where the DC Phase answers that question. 8 get many troll hate texts but none of them take it on with a head to head. I got 20 years of fine tuning her I trust it better then my Deus II which I like better in the black beach sand on the Jersey coast plucking out those deep Spanish silver everyone misses and the 10 gold rings. But my favorite is still the old DFX way ahead of it's time but it had a tough learning curve to master it. Actually it's not to tough to get her to go deep it's that it's easy to over adjust one of the so many functions and shoot yourself in the foot. And the 6 inch coil has stupid crazy depth for some reason. It must be wrapped exactly the perfect amount of winds in the transmit and the receive part of that coil windings but darmn is it deep on tiny little metal targets like earrings or collar buttons. I find the screw backs to pins and earrings with it

@@MoreBlackWhirlybirds bet you got a good deal on one! My best advise would be to start off in C&J mode and start a test garden to mess around with it. Then one you start to get the feel of how each setting correlates the start building and saving programs. The easiest to do is turn the AC up a bit say to 70 and start hunting. The VCO on is always a must and I really like the tone ID. Relic mode will be a bit annoying to you at first. Let me known how you do!!!
@brazosTX
@brazosTX Год назад
It’s not complicated, just start off slow and it only gets complicated when you start to over think everything. You are never going to find everything in the ground but as you learn the machine you will get to understand it’s capabilities and tweet them a bit to help find the item you may have been overlooking at first. That takes a lot of time to get familiar with the machine you are using. I ran stock programs and just turned the vco on for 10 years until I started making custom programs. The factory programs will find you many valuable artifacts and coins, the main thing is research where you are hunting and try to get to a spot that have never been hunted is ideal. When we start making custom programs it’s for 2 reasons. #1 we are bored and want to tinker and #2 we are at a heavy hunted place and trying to squeeze an inch out of the machine. 😂 (Sgt. Hartman, R. Lee Ermey opening scene full metal jacket “). Good luck, reach out if you need tips and remember it’s not the wand it’s the wizard.

That will come with a loss of depth. When you move off of iron. I run the mixed mode with the VCO and crush deep small targets. In mixed mode you intentionally include the iron audio signal on purpose for a reason it prevents iron masking. It takes some getting used to but after a while you learn to use it to your benefit because it also helps you know which side your target is when there a ferrous and non ferrous targets in the same hole
