Bernie Marsden wrote in his memoir that his solo was the first take actually. He was just „noodling around“ (quote), and after that first take, producer Martin Birch said that that was perfect for the song. Marsden believed he could do better and did several solos for half an hour. Eventually he agreed that the first take was the most fitting version and it was used for the final mix.

This song, for me, is the best song Whitesnake ever made, the real Whitesnake...the pulsating rhythms of the drums and bass, the sweeping organ waves, the delicious guitars, DC's stellar vocals...just a perfect song for all eternity. The song builds up and stronger...and when the guitar solo begins, it fucking kills my heart, it's so damn sweet...

Friend of mine was the one who organized Whitesnake concert first time ever in my native Saint Petersburg, Russia. Festival name was White Nights!! And after we partying hard on yacht across Finish bay!! David was true gentlemen and Snakes!! Such a great Memories!! Cheers

I was 15 when I first heard this song and was crazy about it; Paice beat, Moody's & Marsden guitars, Coverdale's power vocal, Murray & Lord in the background. I am 55 now and I feel young listening to it again 😂. I have listened to this at least 6 times this past 1 week. Great music don't die.

I don't really think you could ever put John Lord "in the background". The maestro of Purple, the Wizard of Hammond, and a mentor and a mate to Coverdale. Just listen to 'Child in Time', and you'll hear what I mean.

Although Coverdale, Paicey and Johnny (Jon Lord) played together in 1982 till the Mark 2 reunion two years later (Jon played in Whitesnakes 1978 first album As you can see in their kickass interpretation of Beatles "Day tripper". Paicey joined them 3 years later i think?)

The pulsating rhythms of the bass & drums on this song are just unbeatable. There's not much in terms of how many hits there are per minute, but the exciting and life-affirming patterns themselves, the strong touch and the beating sounds...driven hard with the guitar riffs...just masterful! Coverdale's singing at its best ever, plus the heart shattering solo... This is the greatest Whitesnake song of all time. This song strikes me so deep that I can't even write it down here...

I remember seeing an interview a while back where David Coverdale described Steve Vai as the first "guitar hero" he'd worked with. What a shame that he didn't hold Bernie Marsden in the same regard.

I had the denim jacket with the patches. I had the posters on my bedroom wall. And of course I had all the albums including my favourite "Live in the Heart of the City". Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Mountain, Saxon, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and more... My friends and I used to cycle into town to waste hours scouring through the secondhand record stores looking for that "next purchase". Those were the days!

I got into Whitesnake in...surprise, surprise...1987. I love that album to this day and it is still one of my favourite Hard Rock albums. That being said, I adore pre 87 Whitesnake just as much. They have such an amazing back catalogue of great records, all demonstrating how exceptional the band is at producing Blues based Hard Rock. Long live the Serpens Albus 🤟🏾
