First of all....they sang...not only did they sang...they feed off of each others energies like true musicians and gave them peoples a show. Cece's runs are like water flowing through a stream and whitney belts like a train whistle...amazing duo 😍🙏🏽
Whitney’s voice wasn’t gone yet at this time. She was under the weather & didn’t think she could even perform, but with CeCe present to sing with her, she pressed through it & KILLED!!!
CeCe is incredibly celebrated in the music industry, but still so incredibly underrated! The range, power and tone is undeniable! 👑 CeCe tore it up! There's a reason why she is the best-selling and most-awarded gospel singer of all time
look at it again, whitney loved cece so much she brought tears to whitney eyes thats what you heard in whitney voice, plus when whitney sing with anybody she let them shine she know she shine already.
Finally! I'm glad to see you reacted to this video, this is one of my favorite duets. One thing to note, Whitneys voice was a bit strained here as you noted, but she came right into this dynamic duet after just performing a knock out solo performance of "This Day" on this same show (which you would also enjoy watching, check it out). But yeah they both killed it!
Love how even though she wasn't precisely at her best she still found her way around notes in a very pleasant way still, showing her agility instead of her range. Beautifully done
I actually think it's easy to hear their voices apart. But their voices compliments each other very well. Whitney may not be in her prime here but the matureness in her voice fits the version of the song very well. It's more soulful and more authentic than in her prime.
Let’s remember Whitney performed “This Day” , accepted an award, then gave a speech b4 walking over and singing with CeCe. So, I believe Nippys voice was where it was supposed to be during this performance. Poised, controlled, powerful, and unmatched. Don’t play with my girl. #ever
If you look at Whitney's eyes, she was emotional through this performance. She was IN. Her & CeCe may be performing for the audience, but they were also performing & giving aid to each other.. I sensed no lack in Whitney here, just fighting through emotion.
Whitney had spent a couple nights at a hospital just days before this performance. And Cece spent both nights with her. Cece knew what whitney was going through at that time.
I just want to let you know that you are so damn great Those Queens are nothing less than unbelievably talented. Whitney is the Truth Honesty and Fact and CeCe is so underrated she’s simply. Great Video I missed that Queen Sleep In Peace Vocal Goddess ❤️.
Folks always talking bout wigs.....Whitney could have been bald with a feature taped to her head and been beautiful. Lots of unattractive women with long hair.
Whitney has accurate placement that coincides with the music, she had not only a voice but an extraordinary ear to hear and adlib with melodies. That is not taught that is what makes her a phenomenal singer. Everybody wants to do runs, inflections, melisma, riffs, and they don't know where to place them in a song. Whitney knows exactly where to place and it makes all the world of difference in quality sound and just good to the ears.
The fact that he keeps saying she is not 100 is pissing me off 😂 I’ve watched this performance since the day it aired back in 95 and Whitney TORE THE ROOF of the place this performance with Cece was her second performance of the night.....her first was a song she covered by Jennifer Holliday called “THIS DAY”........she murdered it.....her voice was in tip top shape.....to keep saying she wasn’t 100 here....you are tripping
He had not seen the "This Day" performance she did within almost seconds of her duet with Cece. By the time she started singing with Cece, her voice was a bit tired after coming off her powerhouse solo, and it showed a bit in certain segments their duet. But I agree with you, she still rocked it and was in great voice nontheless.
Whitney already sang a beautiful rendition of "Give us this Day" live earlier that night and blew the roof off. The fact that you are saying her high notes was "limited" is not supported by her previous performance that evening.
TheNewYorkMimes yeah, I pointed that out earlier as well, I think it's just because he hasn't seen the " This Day" performance yet to be able to compare and capture the true condition of her voice at that time. If he had, he would have been blown away.
@@justthevoice4529 you should even if you don't post it im telling you it will change your life lol it was like a higher power helped her with that song
And maybe I miss heard but i thought he said she was limited in her range not head voice Whitney's head voice lasted a long time and was never limited. But around this era she was straining more hitting chest notes but i like her better in this era she sounds more soulful to me and its impressive that she changed her singing style and did other vocal tricks to compensate for loosing some of her power...it shows how versitile she was as a singer and I honestly never saw anyone else able to do that
@@44trae14 that version is good too but in this version she plays with her head voice more and she had the most beautiful head voice I've ever heard.. and the arrangement in my opinion was better
It's kinda sad that most of Whitney and Cece's duets happened post-Bodyguard era. I wonder how it would sound if she did a duet with Cece during the Bodyguard era. I wish Count On Me happened around that time instead of Waiting to Exhale era.
gosh they are so amazing vocally they blend together effortlessly love the gospel sound and your reaction is so genuine respecting both Whitney and Cece performance
On Whitney's earlier performance she said that she was a little sick on this night...she still pulled it off...Great performance..both women did great!!
Please react to Whitney beautifully singing "This Day", which she sang right before singing with CeCe. It's one of the best and may give some insight as to why her voice was tired.
let me break this one down on 4:17 when Whitney say O when you need a friend, CeCe came in on need a friend and before CeCe could finish with yeah Whitney came in between and snuck in If you need a friend and Ce Ce said yeah, it happens so fast that if you don't pay attention it will slip past you because some people get confused by their tone quality. Placement is not something a chorus vocal or music director can teach you, you have to know where to fill in and not interrupt the beat and it fits like a puzzle this is why she is the voice. Some singers over sing a song or try to outshine their partner in a duet. Whitney knew how to blend, mimic, and add her own nuances and inflections and it's freaking masterful. Her ear and how she catches a rhythm and go with it and add something to enhance it only other person like this was MJ.
5:20 "Oh lord, what's happening" hahaha. That look you gave us was one of the funniest thing I've seen on RU-vid XD
Peace to all April 2020 Tears flow listening to this since the 90s - extremely powerful energy - Divine Electricity hits me every time I hear them singing This song is endlessly powerful - I listen to this always Cee - saw The Winans in concert 1991 at Disneyworld Gospel Christian music weekend !!! Powerful Powerful Powerful Oh you can tell Cee’s voice vs Whitney - Their voices blend well together Cee Winan Wow - hearing her in person Gives all the Glory to God Yes they were dear friends - and the Winan Family tried to help Whitney during her sad times Cee can sing all night long - that’s the Power God gives us when it’s for the glory of God
In 1995, Whitney had recorded the soundtrack to The Bodyguard (1992) AND wrapped up a world tour (1994) where she had to repeatedly deliver “I Will Always Love You,” “Run to You,” and other big ballads. Sis was likely TIREDDDD. Her vocal “decline” didn’t really start until about 5-ish years later so this video is Whitney after singing big ballads nonstop for like 3 continuous years.
Do That’s What Friends Are For with Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder and Dionne Warwick. Great duet watching them compete with each other.
Cece can "almost" sing out of tune by raising the tone just above the actual one from time to time but not enough to be false..this adds so much character to her singing.
Cee cee is the only person that can sing with her and you not say why is she there and such beautiful women not all tattooed up and half naked just class
When you wanna actually live for the lord you become less popular I believe thats why people dont talk about cece a lot but yeah she is one of the best to ever walk this idc what nobody say
competition but from total love…the respect and mutual respect, trust and support is palpable. You can see and feel that Cece totally loved Whitney. It’s funny to compare this same duet with the one with Natalie Cole. God I wish Whitney were still here, to absorb the adoration that was so much more than deserved. Whitney…my absolute girl 🥰🌟🧡
There was a lot of Emotion in this Performance because Whitney overdosed during the Filming of Waiting to Exhale and She was broken by the Experience so that’s why CeCe Held her tight at the End. Now Whitney’s Voice had declined some due to Smoking so you can hear the Gradual Disconnect between her Chest Voice and Falsetto by this time . She still has range and resonance but you hear the Decline but I agree it made for a Raw Sound in this Song. CeCe has a Similar tone as Whitney at this time, She definitely can hang with Whitney ...Excellent Video
Just The Voice is your channel and I respect it.... The Jamaicans: What you cannot hear you must feel. The kids: ya feel me? Did y’all feel the hug, the embrace, the life exchange at the song?!?!
Sarah Stewart She was! 😂 But when you have some time, listen to her live performances around 1993. She is amazing, but the voice itself starts to change. It started getting deeper & darker. Her voice also starting cracking from time to time, even though she STILL got standing ovations.
