Whitney performs live at London's Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, June 11th 1988. She was the headline act at the "ARTISTS AGAINST APARTHEID" concert held to celebrate NELSON MANDELA's 70th Birthday.
Best voice ever. Honestly...the drug thing is moot at this point. Many many do drugs. She admitted to it. It cost her her life. But in history...that lady sang it all like no other. The voice of my lifetime.
Do not focus only on the drugs she took , but on the reasons why she needed to take the drugs to relaxe and "escape" her own reality and inner emotions. You have to look further than her perfect appearance and charm. Everybody should take a look into their own more or less irrational and destructive behavior, admitting that it's not always easy to break a negative or self destructive behavior - especially not if you're a sensitive and emotional and easy going person who loves freedom and harmony, but often lived a different stressful and very demanding life often being criticized by the press for many reasons - she demanded so much of herself to help and support so many people in her family. A lot of pressure and responsibility. It looked so easy in her prime years, but she had her bad and sad moments - perhaps she wanted the attention, but I'm convinced she never really wanted or liked to the celebrity life in a cocoon not been able to walk alone on the streets by herself.
Diane Chavez Whitney smoking weed in her teens isn't a major event like people try to make it. People hype up Whitney's early love of weed as being something abnormal. Whitney didn't start using cocaine until she was already famous. Her brother who introduced cocaine to Whitney said that.
Whitney, for me is the gold standard of singers. I remember thinking, how can this impossibly smooth vocal power come from such young gorgeous model Ms. Houston. She was blessed.
The beauty of her live performances was that no 2 were exactly alike. She would phrase and riff differently every time. That's impossible to autotune and lip sync. She was one of the best of a generation.
What i appreciate about Whitney especially in her prime, is how she was just herself. Beauty, style, true vocals, && all, && she kept your attention. She wasnt NAKED, she didnt sing about the CRAP we hear today, she doesnt look like any of the MESS we see today, she was just Whitney Houston. She was so great, sometimes i dnt even believe she knew what she had !! Even when she came back && got into the more up to date times, she kept it real. She didnt change b/c the industry changed. I love her
Cosmic Jinx . I watched this concert live at the time. She left stage to get a jacket as it was very cold that early summers day! The crowd got restless and impatient. What a treat they got when she returned
@Analytical Vocal coach Mariah is a very technical singer but she doesn't convey the same deep and true emotions in her voice as Whitney. I'd much rather listen to Whitney than mariah.
It had nothing to do with her voice! They were booing bc Whitney briefly left the stage!Yet they shouldn't have booed her although they were missing her like crazy!
@@Red1Green2Blue3 b'se 90% of Mariah's performances are either dubbed or lipped 💀 besides she actually couldn't consistently deliver a non fraudulent perfect libe performance to save her life Whitney THE VOICE Houston is an exceptionally GIFTED VOCALIST 👑❣️
she's in perfect pitch AND you can tell it's freezing and windy which is worst weather to perform in when you're a singer! Most singers would sound awful in that weather, but then again they are not WHITNEY! ( no last name required) When you're on that level you recognize that person on 1st name basis
@Ed Miller Its a figure of speech... Simplu Meaning - "stop being mean to her" or "be more understanding towards her" (If you still don't understand, I'm sorry. I tried to help.. Have a great day 👍)
OMG she had so much class even when fans were enraged due to her short term absence She still managed to contain herself and ease the mob by singing hell out a song 😂❤️
You don't lose your voice, it just becomes weaker. Its a natural process through years of strain. From what whitney did and through not training it just happened faster. She was still amazing.
@@sl0ts7 She unbuttoned her jacket in front of the crowd and ran backstage. The crowd got very excited thinking she was gonna return in something...shorter. instead she wore a coat because she didn't want to get sick "I've got a tour to do"
I wonder what happened to all the dancers and singers in this video? They were all so great! Her music director did speak out when she passed. I think he was the handsome man on the right. Such a great group together!
I love this concert! Thank you for posting! This was definitely Whitney at the top of her game! I have been looking for this concert forever and then read all off the political things that everyone had to go through. I live in the States and didn't even realize it was called the Nelson Mandela Concert. Shame on FOX network..they were and still are bunch of JOKES! RIP Whitney! Love you always!
Such a MASSIVE VOICE from what is a tiny lady! I miss you so much my princess x - So glad I got to see you twice in the 1990's! Bodyguard Tour was my Favourite! It has taken me 3 months to be able to listen to you on here singing your love songs LIVE for me not to CRY! I LOVE YOU SOO MUCH!! Getting Emotional Now ..... xxx RIP PRINCESS! xxxx
Every time I watch old videos of Whitney Houston tears comes to my eyes. No one has matched her before, and no one has matched her since. She had the Voice no arguing no arguing no arguing. This whitney peak Whitney is the absolute best singer of all time. Don't wast time even trying to compare anyone to her. Damn She was good.
Gold standard singer back then Now and forever!!..Vocal range and power Phenomenal!! so Giftedl. I can remember playing this video over n over, again, My life to become a professional singer started this DaY of this Concert. Just love great soulful music. RIP Daughter and Mum xx
Just saw Diamond White covering this song poorly on x-factor despite her amazing voice in other songs, so I thought maybe it's a difficult song to sing live. So I wanted to see if Whitney herself struggles with it live. Needless to say, I have a whole new appreciation for Whitney after hearing this performance. What an amazing voice.
Merci pour cette super vidéo, inutile de le dire , belle, talent voie,, ect.. Juste👏👏👏❤️Whitney la plus grande chanteuse du monde, la plus belle aussi, merveilleuse 💖🌹💖
I wish I was old enough back then to be there at Wembley Stadium, London, but I was too little and only four years old at the time. But now I can watch her on RU-vid anytime!!
Look how all hands go in the air at 35sec lol amazing everyone was turned up at that point back then people just had fun no people don't know how to act smh
true. today's stars don't last as long though. When was the last time you saw Aguilera on tour? Also, rumour has it Adele's voice has gone and she's biding her time before announcing it to the world. its a shame really. if that's true.
She, her band, singers got much more fluid as time passed. You can tell they were still building a chemistry during these years. However, they were still INCREDIBLE here! #LOVEit
What a wind force! Then the fans roaring and clapping in time. It eats away at the performance and how. She holds firm and sets the sunglass sail. Amazing. ♥️💖
None of the popular singers today can sing worth a damn. They are chosen for their looks alone. ugh. Whitney was blessed with it ALL, yet she was so humble.
Wow, she was a bit nervous after the booing (very unfair) but this is still one of the greatest performances of this song!!! I mean she wasn't even fully relaxed, folks. So very powerful. She is deeply missed...
@watchmakeuptips Exactly, that's the thing about her. She wasn't just a singer, she was a diva- unbelievebly gifted in many ways, with voice, with looks, great sense of humour and class. She loved music so much and she shared that love with the whole world. So now the whole world misses her so much. Not only fans, but all the people who can see how incredibly talented she was.
Her voice changes the whole atmosphere fr fr i was showing 2 teenagers her song because my generation done messed up her song by making up some lyrics that didn't make no sense at all but they're youngest sister who is 6 years old took to her and was mesmerized into her gift and recognized true soulful talent amd didn't have to question her style of music and the teenager was awestruck fr fr her gifts and talents of music is still alive and well today i love who she is real rap
this is live people. listen to how perfectly in pitch it is. no autotune at all. then compare this with today's tripe like selena gomez and miley cyrus.
