My results are sort of similar to yours. My mother was Peruvian, and I have about 16% Native American DNA. I have been actively researching my family for several years and have made astounding discoveries, including the graves of ancestors, musical compositions they published, secret children, careers on the Broadway and London stage, a famous Rabbi, one met a President, several fled Bolshevism and the Irish potato famine, early deaths, and my great-great grandmother was literally a "Little Orphan Annie." Just a crazy, crazy family tree!

Your channel popped up. Your analysis was intelligent and informative. Other channels I reviewed were mostly useless and a joke. Just from looking at you, your tests were spot on. I’d like to try it; seems interesting. Thanks.

Do the companies simply send you these result updates, or do you have to reapply the tests and restart the entire process?

Hi there! Interesting video, I think DNA is super interesting too! I haven't actually had my own DNA done, but a few years ago I gave my mom a kit as a gift (it was slightly strategic since I am pretty sure my dad is 100% Dutch, so I thought I'd get more specifics on some of the unknown stuff on her side if I just got her to do the test instead!). Something about the updates: you know how you were saying that the more people do the test the more specific they get? Well, interestingly enough, I think in some ways the machine-learning updates have made my mom's results slightly less accurate! When she first had her DNA done, some trace results for Indigenous North American showed up, which through family history research and genealogy I've been able to confirm as true. However, the updates have taken that Indigenous ancestry and lumped it under French. What I think is going on there is probably that most people in Quebec actually do have Indigenous ancestry that they don't know about or deny, so the more Quebecois people take Ancestry tests, the more the algorithm reads these DNA segments as a local deviation of French instead of Indigenous. What do you think about this theory? Hmm!

Something else: another branch of my mom's tree is Australian, and although my research shows most of them as originating from England, the DNA results show a lot more diversity of Irish, Scottish, Welsh... my thought here is that perhaps the Australian convict's ethnicities were being recorded wrong when they were shipped off for stealing potatoes...!

Hello! Thank your for the message. A couple things jumped out. One thing to note is that many people lived on native reserves but were not in fact indigenous. This happened on my grandmother’s side. They even had a photo of the supposed Native in traditional headdress, but she wasn’t genetically Native. So people may show up on scrolls who weren’t native. It happens a lot. With the Australian, the only natives are Aboriginals. So, if she is white, the Scottish/Irish/Welsh is probably correct. It’s important to remember that recent geographic location is not taken into consideration with DNA. It looks at DNA of people who were originally located in certain areas sometimes as much as 200,000 years ago. Additionally, family trees are pretty hard to be 100% certain about. Even as recent as my mother was incorrect, since through her dna test, we found that her birth father was not the person who raised her. Almost impossible to be for certain through family trees. Hope this helps!

@@AshSerrano Yes, there are rumours in my family about my grandfather's father not being genetically related to him as well. Always interesting! and yes, of course, white australians are of european descent :) and yes, good point about Indigenous ancestors! In what's now known as Canada, where I live, the paperwork is not very reliable, as there were (up until quite recently!) sexist laws that classified women as the same "status" as their husbands. This means white women could be classified as Indigenous if they married an Indigenous man, and Indigenous women would lose their "status" if they married a non-Indigenous man (or even a Native man who had lost his status in some way). Super true to be diligent to be getting the correct information, and not making false or insensitive claims. thx for the reply!

I am a DNA 'frike' my self....... testet on familytreedna . My closest match is my mother's grand cousin and there are at least 2000-3000 members in this segment. Which shows that there are still far too few tested.And I find that my paper tree does not match DNA. (And DNA does not lie). I would therefore like more to be tested. I have been tested feb. 2017 = about 500 matches. Now aug. 2020 = 1293 match. On average 19 per month = 2 every 3 days.

Which DNA company did you use? I find that some reference populations have a smaller set of opportunities for testing due to there being less of those people with "pure" DNA.

Ash Serrano WAIT, WHAT?! That’s quite a change! It was like 70% before, or something like that LOL! I knew we had more French because grandpa Didier was 100% French. Irish too. When I used Ancestry for the family tree I found mostly English folks LOL. Except grandpa Didier. There’s actually a photo of his parents immigrating I believe. Quite interesting.🧐. Does the recent ancestry in Americas basically tell you what you are? Since that’s where your whole family originated from? 23 and me doesn’t have any specific areas in South America for some reason it just says European, African, Asian, Arab etc background dna, The recent Ancestry’s in americas update confuses me, because mine says Puerto Rico and Brazil. But no where in my dna breakdown does it say Puerto Rican or Brazilian just Spanish background. Very confused on that part of the update
@AshSerrano
@AshSerrano 3 года назад
Recent ancestry goes back 10 generations. So, it will show Spain or Native or African, etc. The only Americas ancestry that is shown is Native and it should give you a location of the native. For me, 23&Me, it shows Native from Panama. I recommend 23&me more for specific locations. It even shows what part of Panama for me.
@ask4theupgrade359
@ask4theupgrade359 Год назад
“the Americas” is represented by North, South, Central & the Caribbean. You have indigenous/Native American DNA in the Americas, specific to Puerto Rico and Brazil, as do I. The RU-vidr’s indigenous DNA is specific to Panama, Colombia & Venezuela and Haiti & Dominican Republic, formally known as “Hispaniola”, the first colony in the New World.
