Samurott is my favorite starter of all time, I don't know why but I've loved defending it against people who say it's bad. Now I understand that everyone has opinions, so there's really no need to "defend". But I still love my samurott.

Honestly, if i had to pick my first preference would be oshawott followed by snivy.

Technically, Samurott was made before Oshawott and Dewott. So it was actually the prior 2 who doesn't look like Samurott. But shoot, as long as you choose what you love, then that's ok too 💪

Oshhawatt is my go-to starter pokemon. It may not be all that strong, but by god is it not weak. Snivy unfortunately has a bunch of weaknesses, and Tepig is too OP so it makes the gameplay too easy. Oshawatt however while lacks strengths, also lacks weaknesses so its both fair game and allows you to spend more time in thr game training it and other pokemon

Snivy is literally a snake! (Sn)ake +ivy=Snivy. And it doesn’t loose its arms, they are the tufts on it’s back. No way people actually hate Serperior when it is LITERALLY the best looking design out of the bunch!

Serperior's great cause you can build it anyway you want, technically. All of it's stats are well balanced so it practically melds with almost any nature given to it. My first playthtough had both physical and special moves before I really got into nature, evs, and ivs. A jolly or adamant one kills with that leaf blade.

Why is not having llimbs so universally hated? So many criticized Serperior for that but IT’S! A! SNAKE! You can actually see its small arms tucked behind it because it’s (now say it with me) SUPERIOR! It’s so dignified and elegant that it constantly has its head held high and its arms behind it, using only its glare to intimidate foes according to its pokedex entry. It’s baffling how many people just let all of that go over their heads. That said, I do agree with your statement on Samurott. They were based on Otters but the design for Samurott is more inspired by Sea Lions to make it look more tough, which I half think is a mistake. Half because while it does make it look as tough and big as a Samurai, it disrupts Oshawatt’s Otter based inspiration. Not to mention it contradicts the direction the chose for the ACTUAL Sea Lion water starter in Primarina, as it’s more sleek, thin and feminine rather than thick and tanky like and actual Sea Lion. I used to think that if it were up to me, I would’ve made them Grass/Dragon, Fire/Dark and Water/Fighting. A Grass/Dragon Serperior would’ve taken advantage of not only Contrary Leaf Storm, but also Contrary Draco Meteor. It’s already a reptile so it could pass for Dragon. Fire/Dark would’ve allowed Emboar to take more inspiration for the pig-man character from Journey to the West but the problem is that it’s also based on a bunch of other historical characters that involve the fighting type more. Water/Fighting is an excellent type that would’ve fit Samurott ridiculously well and would’ve complimented Hisuian Samurott’s Dark typing by being strong against it like many other regional variants. When it comes to in game performance, Imported Cheese said it best when he said “Oshawott is your best water type option in the whole region, and he’s still mediocre.” Mainly because having a water type in almost any of the games is super important, especially in the older games where Surf, Waterfall, and Dive were necessities and Oshawott isn’t doing amazing in that role, but he’s doing it the best.

I think the base forms of all three are solid , it gets weirder during the mid stage ( except Dewott ), and the final stages just look flimsy . Although I still dislike Emboar , I've def grown to like Serperior and Samarot a lot

Emboar is amazing in this game wut 😂 like I don’t think there’s ever been a better made starter for a region. super effective against Lenora, Burgh, Brycen and Grimsley, has head smash for Skyla too. It’s great against the countless Team Pulse battles as they have mainly dark/normal mons. You can solo the game with Emboar easily. The only boss fight I ever struggled with was Elesa because of dumbass Emolga and that was mainly RNG on wether Static would proc

i dont really like any of the starters in gen 5 and I hate saying that. I just feel most of them besides dewott and oshawott are poorly designed, they’re kinda bad stat wise too why serperior trying to be defensive AND fast at the same time? why does emboar have mediocre bulk for how slow it is? why does samurott not know what the hell it wants out of its stats? You’re right about the gyms too its a shame that 2 out of 3 of the starters suck in their OWN generation for the main line game. Its almost like because blaziken was the most balanced one for gen 3 and infernape easily the best starter in gen 4 they really wanted you to pick emboar by making him good against way more of the gym leaders and elite four. This further proves my point gamefreak is biased towards fire type starters

Personally I really like Tepig and think he’s very underrated but his evolved forms not so much. I wasn’t really a fan of Ash’s evolving in the anime and it’s a shame it stayed as Pignite too.

First of all the starter is not that strong because its supposed to be used in early game

Max cap lvl up Dewott before facing Leader Burgh and his Leavanny team and use Focus Energy and Fury Cutter them up from the start till Fury Cutter's damage stacks up or just catch a Growlithe or Venipede in the wild. On Elesa you'll just need another Pokémon or a Venipede/Whirlipede with roll out. The rest of the Gym Leaders gets rekt by Samurott basically with ease. On the elite 4 just teach Samurott the move Ice beam for Champion Iris.
