What exactly do people think the significance of the post-game title screen is if they think that it was all a Rattler trick? It would make zero sense as the final image the game leaves us with.

@John Huizar- It could just be another lead to get fans speculating on further misadventures in a possible sequel/dlc content. Just because a guy on the radio claiming to be a Firefly confirms the location of a building to Abby, who then makes it there with Lev, doesn’t mean that the building is currently occupied by Fireflies. Perhaps it once was but, similar to the abandoned Firefly outpost in Santa Barbara, it could have since fallen into Rattler hands, been overwhelmed by the infected, or even succumbed to Fedra forces before their fall. We have no idea who’s in that building...only that Abby intends to find out.

@bastardjustice- Could you imagine if Ellie somehow managed to dislodge a spore bomb from a defeated bloater and carry that in her pack to use later on an unsuspecting room full of unmasked enemies? 😆 Well, before spore bombs were retconned into acid bombs, that is.

@@showj0e it is easy for Ellie to get spores. Just grab a plastic bag and catch the spores floating in the air or pick shrooms that actively releases spores then store them. And toss it to enemies and enjoy watching them squirm until they become infected. The drawback is that people will not turn that fast so the only thing will happen is they will be gunned down by their comrades.

I was probably the most impressed with Ellie when she escaped those two rattlers, not only was the way she killed them brilliant, she first had to make the smaller one mad by insulting him. You could brush this off as just Ellie’s attitude, but it looks to me like she knew making him mad would put him in a more compromising position. Brilliant.

In my two playthrougha I've always killed the female rattler first and let anthony the runner personally get vengeance on his tormentor. It's interesting because the infected beats him to death instead of biting him immediately, like some part of anthony was getting his piece of revenge, not just mindless infected violence that you might expect.

It was used as a hangman's noose and there was a corpse there, with a scar symbol on the nearby wall. That body was probably the pregnant woman Paige, meaning the gutted her while she was pregnant ... Disgusting.

i really love how tlou2 makes it look like everyone could be a protagonist. from boris, arnie, to mckenzie or pat. this is why they didnt make ellies immunity a big thing so she wasnt a "chosen one" protagonist. the worldbuilding of last of us is complicated like in the real world would be

Honestly meh the Rattlers were obviously put there so you wouldn't feel bad about slaughtering them since they are unequivocally assholes and an evil faction. The WLF and the Seraphites by contrast aren't inherently evil just like the Fireflies and the Military weren't in the first game, they are just factions with their ideologies trying to survive in the world and that in my opinion is way more interesting that your standard "bad guys" like the Rattlers really.

T 995 hmm not so sure about lazy . I think they worked very hard on the game but I would give it a 9 because of how jarring it can be switching to Abby. I don’t think it was rushed just more like the game was nearly 30 hours already and they had to finish it somehow and didn’t want us to be so fatigued by it ahhahahaha

I just hope they don’t make the third game about Abby and Lev cause as much as I’ve grown to like Abby I just don’t care for them :/ I hope they make a DLC on maybe what Abby and Lev lived through on their adventure through California and their capture by the rattlers! That would be some awesome backstory cause the whole dark story of the rattlers is so cool aha. It would also be so interesting if they made the comic books into a DLC also cause idk what they would build upon Ellie now in a 3rd game

The game emphasizes Ellie's pure determination. Abby is the product of heavy military training physically and mentally, whereas Ellie has a very normal appearance for a teenager but is able to shred whole armies through determination and willpower.

@@charlieniven6558 What he means is that all the people that are infected are still alive. They lost complete reason and consciousness and they become flesh eaters. They are not zombies. The Cordyceps, in the game, is a fungus virus that infects the brain while the host is still alive.

This is one element of the game that is praise worthy. It’s interesting to see how different factions adapt and survive in the world. Some are paramilitary like the Fireflies and some are evil slave driving assholes like the Rattlers. Makes me think what other twisted groups are out there.

That’s why I love post apocalyptic shows and games. I love seeing what sort of things humans would resort to. For example in days gone you have the rippers, and the walking dead the whisperers who praise the infected/dead. Then there’s the military groups like WLF and fireflies in tlou. I find it so interesting

Abby’s hair is like a reference to Samson (Biblical). His was cut, and he had lost his strength, and was tied to pillars. In this case Len being her main reason for wanting to be alive and moving on with her life, he was tied to the second pillar.

Honestly the last act feels rushed. Game should have ended after Abby and Ellie theater's fight. You can tell the Rattlers where added quickly just to have something else to fight than infected in that bad last act. Even their society isn't that well shaped: we are slavers, we use our slaves in fields and punishs those who refuse to obey in an evil manner cause we are evil bad guys, hate us! And I'm really disappointed cause the idea was great. Stop calling this game a masterpiece, it clearly has flaws in its narration, just accept it.

Going to Cali was a shock too. I think this might be game of the year, really dont get the hate it's getting if I'm being honest. The ending has a meaning, Joel's death is a catalyst for Ellie's entire arc, and Abby's arc is about redemption. Things nobody seems to understand.

Abby was talking to The Rattlers, not The Fireflies on the radio. One of the frequencies was named "Big Sur" and when you go into the main Rattler building as Ellie, Big Sur is on the wall. It was a trap, this is why they were waiting for Abby outside the house. Also the voice on the radio described that same main building when telling Abby what to look for in Catalina....

No dude, the Fireflies are cannonically still alive and operating off Catalina Island. Developer confirmed. That radio operator knew Abbey and her dad, the Rattlers would not have. The Fireflies probably had some communication with Rattlers so that's why they had "Big Sur" radio channel written down.

Her gut wound is like Joel’s from the first game. By the time Ellie confronts Abby, Abby understands why Ellie keeps coming after her and almost sympathizes with her. Abby becomes “Joel” while Ellie becomes the pre-redemption Abby

@@Dragonfury3000 Because Ellie was straight up traumatized. Abby didn't witness his dad's murder Ellie witnessed Joel's that would fuck anyone up and it was way more brutal too. Joel killed Jerry cause he pulled a knife on him since he was intent on attacking and it was quick but Abby tortured Joel. Abby did redeem herself but no one can blame Ellie for not letting it go after even that long. The writers really handed Ellie a shit deal in the end which kinda pisses me off ngl. She got it worse than anyone else. Her fingers are gone so she can't do the very thing that connects her to Joel, she witnessed her adoptive dad's brutal murder before they could reconcile so she will always blame herself for that since we know she was intent on forgiving him and moving past. The love of her life leaves her and her family is gone, her uncle is messed up mentally and bodily, she is all alone in the end while Abby has a chance in a happy normal life.

@@soundwave2481 abby lost the love of her life. Saw mel, who she also wanted to amend things with, die while pregnant. Nora, her most loyal friend, died a painful and frankly horrifying death and was abby's ride or die. Saw yara get gunned down like a dirty dog, and even mannie got his head blown off right in front of her. She could end up happy, but fuck she lost her entire life. We only perceive ellie as worse off because we follow her for more than just tlou2. Also, I don't think it would be fair to say one had it worse than the other. Both ultimately decided to quit chasing revenge. Abby literally spares ellie twice, and the 2nd time after everyone she loved was murdered by ellie! Ellie does so only after seeing herself and joel in abby and Lev

I like how the Rattler said "I swear" before Ellie gunned him down, the same thing that Joel said to her when she asked about what happened to the Fireflies. Nah, she killed him because he was a risk factor. If she let him live and he somehow makes his way back to camp before her and warns his buddies, she'll have a hard time fending them off. Even if he doesn't, he might cause problems later down the line. Why take that risk? He was badly wounded, but people have come back from things like that in this game all the time. Better to take him out, so you're sure he won't be a problem anymore. What he said had nothing to do with it. Ellie believed he was telling the truth and that was all she needed to know. After that, all he is to her is a potential threat. Better to remove it before he finds a way to recover.

When Abby was talking on the radio, she was actually talking to a rattler not firefly. That was the vibe I got. It confirmed they were in the house and set up the ambush.

At the end of the game, you can see the building the fireflies were talking about. Abby and Lev made it to Catalina Island at the end. Plus the tall round bulding is burned to the ground in the slave uprising, but not the one on catalina island, confirming there is in fact a fireflie base there

That’s the impression I got. The Rattlers claim to be a surviving group of Fireflies and enslave anyone who comes to join them or they run into. Or maybe there were Fireflies there but the Rattlers wiped them out and took over their base to use as a trap. I assume they camp nearby in case someone goes to the house.

The Santa Barbara level is definitely one of my favorite levels of the entire story. The area is absolutely stunningly re created and Ellie’s gameplay is just really badass. She’s a one person army

Leaving her family and the farm to accomplish her revenge may had bad consequences for Ellie, her relationship with Dina and their son, and her ability to play guitar, but at least her quest for vengeance indirectly did some good by killing a lot of the rattlers, who are rather monstruous guys, and freeing a lot of their slaves. Contrary to the first part of the game where Ellie killed people from the WLF who weren't very bad persons, just very ruthless, she's probably sparing a lot of people from suffering by damaging the Rattlers group by exterminating a lot of their members, also even if she initially wanted to kill Abby, she ends up saving her and Lev. Anyway if The Rattlers weren't all killed and a lot still managed to survive, hopefully the stray who got away and left the message to the Rattlers will finish them off later

I was just talking with a friend of mine about my thoughts on the game. And while I loved it to death, i said to him that I wished the Rattlers were explored more and they were an awesome and intriguing group. Reminded me of The Saviors mixed with the Terminus group from TWD. Also that imagery at the end with all the bodies strung up on the poles was one of my favorite moments of the game. Me and Ellie gasped at the exact same time seeing that shit lol

Everyone seems to forget that if Ellie didn’t kill any of the hundreds of ppl in the game, then it’s kill or be killed.. she had to survive obviously “kill all trespassers” was the new order for the WLF. her only path for revenge was her list against Abbys friends, understandably, for their aid in Joel’s death. She doesn’t end up killing Abby because she’s not feeling the same way she felt at the beginning when Joel died.

Except for the death of abby's friends, because she was at the height of her anger, but in a world of zombies and apocalypse, defending urself and surviving must be normal.

I feel like Joel wouldn't have killed the Fireflies if they didn't try to kill him. I think it would have been different if someone sat with him and talked about it. Have them say their good byes instead of rushing. For Ellie, both the WLF and Seraphites started the fights, so fighting to survive becomes the top priority.

By the point in the game the rattlers came up I thought I had seen everything, but the whole Santa Barbara section opened up such a unique side-story. This deserved more game time, but I understand that the game was already super long at that point. I was deeply impacted by the concentration camp-like setup and its intensity. Also, when you come through with Ellie, the gameplay offered multiple routes reminding me of 28 Days Later with the infected kept in the pools. Will we ever see more of that part in any future Last of Us game?

I disagree, the guy on the radio mentioned catalina island which is where they are located(fireflies) and where abby and lev go at the end of the game which leads me to believe radio guy wasnt lying. Also i forgot which one mentions it but basically they say this isnt their 1st time in the area. Much more likely rattlers were in patrol and saw the garage open so they prepared an ambush. Also, if radio guy was a rattler they would of had less than 5 minutes to get to where abby and lev are located.

I am convinced that Abby's radio transmission in the Fireflies basement was intercepted by the Rattlers. Though she was convinced that the Fireflies still exist , the Rattlers did a stellar job obtaining her position in order to capture her the way they did. The question is just how the hell did the Rattlers manage to get a hold of that particular transmission ? The transmission codes were specific to where only Firefly top personnel had access. I think the place was taken over by them (rattlers) they just kept a comm open and have their men give out the coordinates here and there. Any original fireflies were captured at some point but the stream of would be fireflies trickled in to the point they let the house be an easy funneling point in reality they probably aren't far from the house so can send an easy patrol every so often someone contacts them. One seemed off I think it was sirs it didn't fit into me.

I thought about this too, but then I realized that these guys were watching them from the beginning moment they arrived in that neighborhood. That house where Fireflies use to be was probably used as a trap and they monitored it closely. Either way, Abby really did speak to a Firefly because she eventually got to the island where they said they were based. Whether the base in Catalina island was still populated with Fireflies is a mystery that maybe we'll explore in a future sequel. I still feel like Ellie's story needs to end with a vaccine, but we'll see.

If you notice, the Rattler boss said that Abby was in the slave holding domed building which is true, but it's all burned and exploded by the end of the game. The ending screen is confirmed by Druckmann to be Catalina Island, showing a different large, dome-shaped building. Abby and Lev made it, too, because their boat was there from when Ellie freed them. As for how the line was intercepted, maybe it wasn't. Abby was moving stuff and making noise while going around, maybe Rattlers were in the area and picked up on it.

I loved every second of it, FAR FAR more than the first game. It's leaps and bounds better than the 1st, at least for me it was. I wasn't even that big on the first game to be honest. It was a bit boring. I always felt the whole zombie thing to be a bit one dimensional. The fact that this game focused more on the human aspect of things made it 10 times more fun and engaging to me, and you got to see that humans themselves are far far more terrifying and evil than a bunch of mindless zombies.

Literally! All I see is hate. I just wanna talk about how much I liked it without being mercilessly criticised. We all come from different contexts which influences how we interpret something, just chill out from insulting peoples intellect for liking a game. It would be nice to be able to break it down without it being called weak for doing so - thats the whole point of media!

I really loved that they showed a faction like this, shame that the story spent so long in Seattle, leaving very little time for the santa barbara section to be developed. It would've been better imo if abby's section was shorter and then the last act of the story takes place in santa barbara after Ellie is captured by the rattlers when looking for Abby. They could've had a leader of the rattlers, playing a similar villain role to David in the first game. And even have lev tell Ellie abby's story while they're all in captivity. I feel like if they had to work together to survive and escape the rattlers it would've made Ellie decision to spare Abby more credible

Having just finished the game yesterday, and rewatching those scenes, this one is reminiscent of the Joel’s death scene. Abby is Ellie and Lev is Joel. Wow, Naughty Dog. Wow.

I think they added the rattlers to give a sort of sneak peak for potential ideas they may have if there will be a new game. Which, based on the gruesome way they treat people based on what we briefly saw, will be a tough yet interesting gameplay. They are definitely different than what we are used to. They kidnap for sport. Amazing videos can’t wait for more!

The rattlers kinda felt like ND just needed a regional group that was actually objectively evil so killing them didn't interfere with ellie's ending choice from a moral perspective but honestly I was still super interested in them. Wish we would've gotten a little more direct lore about them out of the game! Great video I've been waiting for some in depth discussion about them to pop up

I will always be amazed by the fact that this big rattler is Laura’s (Abby) husband and Ashley (Ellie) and Joel (Troy) are Laura’s best friends. I think they all did such an amazing job! Laura even Said in an Interview that THAT scene was so horrible for her to shoot she was just focusing on keeping a „normal“ voice because tears were just streaming down her face. I love them all so much. #criticalrole

This game is amazing! Such an emotional roller coaster. My game of the year. My only issue is I kinda wish the rattlers had more backstory but then again, they do in notes and they're put in to show that every city has these random groups good or bad.
