Gaga Slonina, Cade Cowell and Paxton Aaronson, are the players that I think will have a breakout season.

Exited for the pod! Also the thing with George Soup for Atlanta is he plays in a three center back system where either Franco or sosa who are almost always open for the easy pass those two generally then progress the ball forward. The same case for Robinson in the 3 which I really dislike for their development although I like it for Atlanta’s sake. This will keep both of them at a certain point with their passing and technical development until they go to a different system. This has been the same essentially since De Beor started and also I expect no changes under Pineda from preseason also Tyler Wolf was very good for Atlanta during preseason and I am personally excited for him Edit: Good lord sorry for the essay!

Great Vid as always! I will give you a little more hope about Morris for you, too. Artur is a good player, but he has a chronic hip injury, meaning he can only be so useful, and Morris will have to step up. We traded away Seb Berhalter (who is a similar player) to really lean on Morris and Zawaziski (a new homegrown midfielder, similar to Nagbe) as our depth. I have no doubts that Morris won’t be a starter come end of the season, and I hope he gets a euro move by the winter 2023

Hoping Pomykal impresses in an injury-free season playing in the middle. That'd be great. Also if Pax is truly 12-18 months ahead of Brenden's development that'd be great. When Brenden was 19, he was MLS Best XI. Pax turns 19 in August so it truly would be a breakout year for him to go from ~600 minutes to a Best XI player. It's a little disappointing we don't have any elite U19 striker prospects in MLS so hoping someone breaks out at that position.

He's not in MLS by personal choices made the last few years but keep an eye on Palmer Ault, Freshman at Butler. First Team Big East, First Team D1 Freshman Team, Runner up to Freshman of Year. Deceiving speed, and as fast with the ball as without it, strong, good aerial ability.

Considering how stacked the midfield position is in the youth ranks I feel like a shift to a 4-4-2 Diamond would make a lot of sense.

Keep an eye out for Cam Duke on SKC. He recently turned 21, but he is incredibly versatile and a sparkplug in the midfield. I imagine he will get lots of starts this year.

Hehe, I know folks'll scoff at this and he certainly doesn't belong on this list but as a long-time DC United fan I'll be of course watching Nyeman this coming season but also Donovan Pines. I'm fairly certain he blew his chance this summer with the national team. He looked very shaky under pressure in the Gold Cup and definitely didn't look confident on the ball. But I've watched him over the last few years and he's turning into a very solid MLS defender. Very good in the air, underrated catch-up speed and a pretty decent, assertive tackler. Definitely needs to work on his technical skills but is not nearly as bad as he showed in the Gold Cup. I hope he has a good, solid MLS career...

I think you’ve got Pines spot on, he’s quite decent defensively, and I thought he actually did well defensively in that Canada game in the gold cup. But his technical ability is so poor, I cringe every time he touches the ball. For the reason I don’t think he has any future with the usmnt, but he should have a strong future in mls

Great job. I’d love to see a top 5 for NCAA. I know this is the old school path, but reality is there are usually 1-2 players out of this traditional route that will make an impact for USMNT as well. Think Dike, Morris, Turner, etc…

Over the last couple seasons COVID has played havoc with the development of many players (home and abroad) as there have been game cancellations and even halts to some of the leagues. When we take that into consideration it's great to see a group of young players (U-20s) in a position to seriously contribute to their MLS Clubs. Yes, some of them will have to fight/scrap for minutes but even 5 years ago these players would have been soo far down the club's depth chart (regardless of talent) that they'd rarely see the field. Really hoping that these (and others) have a good start to the MLS season and get themselves into good form as we head for the U-20/Olympic qualification tournament this summer. Looking for Slonina, Aaronson, Clark & hopefully Morris to really stake claims as starters for their clubs, and transition that to successful seasons. I've always leaned towards DC United as my MLS Cub side so I hope Nyeman does well, but as a long term USMNT prospect I do worry about his size in comparison to his competition. The USMNT is moving away from purely physical aspects of the game and transitioning to more skilled/technical play, but physicality will remain part of the CONCACAF region and our players need to be up for those types of games.

I know two Timbers academy players (one mid and one goalkeeper). They are both pretty good though I've been able to beat them a couple of times which tells you that we haven't quite gotten there yet. They're still miles ahead of me but they deserve a better academy system.

At 22, is Paxton Pomykol still "young"? I'm excited about him though, so I will let it slide. But much younger (by 2 years), and likely to shine more brightly is Jesús Ferreira playing the #9 this year. With Pomykol behind him, rather than on the right wing, and Arriola (hopefully) sending in service from the wing, this could be a fun season up in Frisco.

Philly will probably run more of a 4-3-2-1 this season which could get the young guys more minutes
@jonwolf83
@jonwolf83 2 года назад
I think Jim Curtin will continue to use his 4-1-2-1-2(4-4-2 Diamond). Uhre and Carranza will be the 2 strikers, Gazdag the number 10, Martinez the 6, Bedoya and Flach both CMs, and the obvious back 4 and keeper that never changes..and for good reason lol. In their first 2 pre-season games, that's the formation they used. We shall see. Alot of what I said is depending on the strikers producing.
