GK: Matt Turner and Zack Steffen DEF: Antonee Robinson, Miles Robinson, Walker Zimmerman, Sergino Dest MF: Tyler Adams, Kellyn Acosta, Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah, Gio Reyna FW: Christian Pulisic, Brenden Aaronson, Ricardo Pepi, Tim Weah DeAndre Yedlin also a near-lock.
Good content here! I'm English but lived in the US for almost a decade now. Just started paying a lot of attention to USMNT. I'm excited for the World Cup to support England and the US. It'll be a different experience from the expectations (and inevitable failure) of the English team to the promise and excitement of this USMNT
I remember watching 11 Yanks and Tactical Manager separately. And then one day they did a video together. Probably my favorite real life crossover. I also love the American council Pete set up. That was an Avenger's assemble moment for me.
I remember that too. It all came together in the livestreams. Tac was commenting in Pete’s livestreams, and then Pete told him to reach out on Twitter to set something up, now they’re like USMNT brothers lol
My 23 man roster: Goalkeepers: Steffen, Turner, Horvath Defenders: Dest, Jedi, Scally, Brooks, Robinson, CCV, Richards, Zimmerman Midfield: Adams, Mckennie, Musah, Reyna, LDLT, Busio Forwards: Pulisic, Pefok, Weah, Aaronson, KDLF, Pepi/Sargent/Hoppe For the back up striker it’s between Pepi, Sargent, and Hoppe, all 3 are in bad form but all 3 are different types of strikers personally I’d take Hoppe because we already have a poacher in Pefok so I’d take Hoppe as a striker that can get in behind the defense and is also technical on the ball the formations I would use are 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2 (daimond), and a 5-2-1-2
I like how you think here, boss. Hoppe might be the most talented out of that list. I also like having Pefok or Dike for their poaching. And Pefok is the most inform right now so he’s the choice. I wouldn’t have Musah or Jedi starting. Musah is too similar to McKennie but not as good . We need some creativity in Reyna or LDLT. And Jedi just isn’t good 1 on 1 and doesn’t understand how to play with anyone else. He’s not selfish he just can do one thing and it’s push. He’ll be screwed playing better players.
@Samuel Wells o yeah I don’t think we have a better LB right now. Scally can play on the left and he will no question be better. Also, even though I like Zimmerman, I’m worried he’ll get ripped apart against better competition. He hasnt played anyone yet really. Not that I’m saying he will, I’m just worried. And his distribution is pretty much not there. But hey, it’s good that this a disagreement now. As long as Roldan, Lletget, Zardes, and Arriola aren’t there I’ll be happy.
@@mtf125 to clarify-I would bring Pefok to the next WCQ window. But ideally, by next November, the 3 strikers I named would be in good(or at least serviceable) form. And in that scenario, I would have Pefok getting snubbed. But the reality we are in now suggests Pefok is a no-brainer
I think Gregg should try Luca de la torre on the wing because he likes combining and taking on players. Also Sam Vines got called up to the last camp but he declined it, so that’s why they brought up brooks Lennon last time
Thats not a Greg thing though, every WC roster has surprise inclusions, or players that come out of nowhere to claim a spot....this constant "need" by some to berate Greg is silly at this point, and while he is culpable for some of the teams struggles there needs to be more accountability aimed at the players who some have placed on a pedestal
Assuming we qualify, this summer's nations league will be interesting. There's the concept of giving maybe the #1-12 guys on the rosters (the locks) some rest over the summer and bringing in the #13-35 guys for the June window? Would really give Gregg a chance to figure out #14-26 guys he will want to bring in November. Problem with that, though, is that there is such a limited time to keep our core team together and meshing before November. With the WC happening in the middle of the season will there even be time to get a multi-week camp in before group play? 3 friendlies? 2? 1? How do you guys foresee Gregg handling June Nations League?
I think recent PT suggests Ferriera has the slight edge over Zardes in GGG's mind right now. Though I think Zardes goes to Qatar if he has a good MLS season. Fullback hard for Scally to break through because GGG has two favorites there (Cannon and Yedlin).
Think you guys are spot on with what Greg will do. Obviously we would all like to see Scally get a shot but lets face it Greg doesn't like him for whatever reason. The only player he doesn't like more than Scally is Brooks so as much as he deserves it he probably doesn't get the call either. Hopefully LDT made his impact and is here to stay. Obviously Reyna is in but I think the biggest question in my mind is how Greg uses him. I do think for striker tough the spot is 100% open and Greg might just go with the hot hand, I would like to see Pfok next camp and even Sargent I also would be comfortable with whoever the hot hand is Zardes, Morris, Pfok, Dike, Pepi, Sargent. I think our biggest challenge is we have talent up top in attack mid Pulisic, Aaronson, Reyna, McKenie, Weah but none are true strikers and Dest and Robinson who can go forward. But as much as we want to posses the ball and press you can't get away with that against South American and European teams at the WC we will be lucky to have 40% possession against those teams. Once we qualify I would seriously consider a change in tactics to a 4-4-2 with Dest and Robinson staying back a lot then Aaronson and Weah as wingers, Reyna and McKenie mid and Pulisic and (striker?). This allows us to become very offensive if we want to but by trying it out this summer allows them to understand they need to track back on defense quickly. If we can't figure that out maybe 3 center back but I just think then our wingers would feel to free and we would get burned on the outside alot. Problem is if we don't change we will never know.
Mine would be GK:Steffen,Turner,Johnson LB:Jedi,Scally RB:Dest,Cannon CB:Brooks,Miles,Richards,Zimmerman DM:Adams,Acosta CM:Mckennie,Musah,Roldan LW:Pulisic,Aaronson RW:Reyna,Weah, Aaronson ST:Pepi, Hoppe, Pefok If one gets injured or something one back up for each GK:Horvath LB:Bello CB:Tim Ream RB:Yedlin DM:Sands CM:LDLT LW: Jordan Morris ST:Dike RW:Paul Arriola
Tim Ream NEEDS to get a look at centerback. To put Aaron Long in over him would be nuts considering the season he / Jedi are having with Fulham. CCV is also a starter with Celtic and playing great too. No one rates them and I have no clue why we’re stuck with MLS players just cuz GB loves them
Who I think Gregg will take: Steffen Turner Johnson A. Robinson Bello M. Robinson Zimmerman Brooks Richards Dest Yedlin McKennie Adams De La Torre Lletget Accosta Busio Pulisic Pepi Reyna Aaronson Sargent Weah If 26 are allowed: Sands, Musah, Arriola.
You guys harp so much on Brooks but IMO Pete said why he hasn't been called in being that he is bad at transition. IMO his form as a left back in 3 man back at WB is irrelevant to playing central in GGG 4-3-3 where his tactics are to use wing backs as attackers and leaves his two central defenders isolated several times a game. i think it would be far worse for him to say that than to say it is form and Brooks probably agrees with that. With 3 games in 7 days, hard to implement tactical and lineup changes but hopefully more time before WC. If he implements 3 centerbacks I think GGG would start Brooks and he could still make WC roster because of that assuming he fills out roster to allow multiple formation (we can only hope ...). Versatility will likely be important to open spots. Just my opinions but of you want to bring Brooks to qualifiers he would have to change tactics if Brooks is on field so I dont expect to see him in March. Thanks for the video!!
I know this is far-fetched, and I know Gregg would never have the intelligence or the guts to name this squad, but my 23 for the World Cup would be this: GK: Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea DF: Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea MD: Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, McKennie, Brek Shea, Brek Shea FW: Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea, Brek Shea McKennie's inclusion may raise some eyebrows, but I think his frequent strong performances for Juventus are just barely enough to earn him a spot on the bench backing up Brek Shea.
I disagree with this take....there a few call ups that leave you wanting someone else instead but the majority of his rosters are with players everyone clamors for
@@samplingmastersxlr8660 The only agenda I have is wanting to find out who are the best players for USMNT and winning. Gregg's continued use of roster space and game minutes on players (esp. Zardes, Lletget, Arriola, and Roldan) that most of us can agree are not good enough is frustrating.
So long as Gregg is the coach there really aren't as many "Locks" as there should be. My take of who are truly locked as going to the WC based on Gregg and their actual performances are (14): Steffen, Turner, Miles, Zimmerman, Dest, Jedi, Adams, Acosta, McKennie, Musah, Reyna, Pulisic, Weah, Aaronson Then there are highly probable inclusions (4): Johnson, Richards, Morris, Pepi Now we get to where selections become what Gregg believes instead of what reality is. This is where the fans start scratching their heads because Gregg seems to decide on a whim which of these guys he calls and plays, but there doesn't seem to be any real justification/explanation for it. (10) McKenzie, Yedlin, Cannon, Bello, Vines, Roldan, Lletget, Zardes, Arriola....I'd include Long with this group just because he's yet to play a single minute after a serious injury, yet still gets called into camps. Conversely there are the players Gregg doesn't appear to rate, yet have been performing and/or playing abroad against stiffer competition and having some reasonable level of success (Consistent Minutes, good performances, etc) even if they aren't setting the world on fire... (8) Brooks, CCV, Scally, DLT, Busio, Sargent, Pefok, Dike, Personally my 23 as of right now would be: Steffen, Turner, Horvath, Miles, Zimmerman, Brooks, Richards, Dest, Jedi, Scally, Yedlin, Adams, McKennie, Musah, Reyna, Luca DLT, Pulisic, Weah, Aaronson, Morris, Pepi, Sargent and Acosta (no-one else seems able to claim the back-up 6). But I'd watch for who gets off to a hot start next season (Konrad, Tesseman, Busio, Dike in particular) as we've had a number of players on the cusp of breaking out with their clubs, and they could swiing into a spot if others slip up at all.
As an Arsenal Supporter just based on years past, Turner will get cup games and Europe (a less we are in the champion's league). This is just based on trends we have been seeing throughout the years. My one concern with Turner is he can't play with his feet as Arteta wants, could be a concern going forward for him in our setup. I don't see any problems with his shot-stopping ability which is a positive.
I would love to see Gio play thru the middle but I don’t think we have seen anything that says Ggg will play him there. Imo Gio is one of the wingers that can play in the middle in Gggs eyes. I understand we all think weah has locked a spot, which i believe is true. He locked a spot but not a starting role. I think ggg forwards locks are: Pulisic Reyna Weah Aaronson The open spots for striker are a fight between: Pepi Pefok Sargent Ferrería Zardes Unfortunately zardes will probably take a spot. and pepi will take the other.
If we do qualify which I think we are I think the lock in berhaltler are zardes, roldan, arriola, and leglet are locking ins even though they are terrible players
Sargent and pefok need and will be called up for last stage of qualifying and for WC otherwise we can expect to hope ferrera and Pepi just get out of the way when pulisic, Reyna , McKennie and weah are attacking bc they along with Zardes will bundle even the easiest of chances against lower class competition. Pefok is on an absolute tear and if he isn’t called up Greg doesn’t deserve the privilege of coaching this squad. My 11 Sargent Pulisic Reyna Mckennie De la torre Robinson Adams Dest Richards Zimmerman. Turner Here’s the blue print y’all. Don’t kill me for not having weah but here me out. Of all those playing over seas or even mls in this roster he is the one who needs to be in form for Lille the most if he wants to start. He has pace yes but he’s one dimensional and his final product is lacking. Assists and goals specifically. He’s also never showed for a decently sustained period for his club that he has elite level potential. In contrast Reyna has shown this ability and Greg seems to like his ability to play from the wing or centrally as a dual 10 like I show here with pulisic. This formation(4-3-2-1) would allow us to control the middle of the pitch and allow Greg’s favorite tactic of overlapping wing backs in dest and Jedi to have full affect! The opposition HAS to double down on either Pulisic or Reyna, or at least they will try to. But with de la torre and mckennie pinched even more centrally but further back they can break down the oppositions midfield and draw their center backs in with direct dribbling and line breaking passes. This would allow pulisic and Reyna to sit in the half spaces and play simple 1-2s through the middle or back out to the wing backs. As we’ve seen with Dortmund and Chelsea pulisic and Reyna can play interchangeably but reynas left foot from distance is a bit more accurate so having CP left if the better design. Mckennie and DLT can also interchange. I fully believe Sargent will be starting bc if Norwich get. Relegated he will score 15-20 goals and if they stay up its bc he helped them get their due to his goal. Scoring and assisting. Pefok is also a tremendous option but goals are a bit easier to come by when you’reon one of the best teams in the er vid Isr so he should definitely not make a move before the World Cup. We saw what happened to pepi. So there it is everyone and Pete and tac. My lineup 😁and what I think Greg will have no choice but to do. Keep up the amazing work you twO!
Opponents at the WC are going to be stronger than what we've been facing, so I would expect that we'd need a stout defensive formation as well as an all out attacking formation like yours. Something that can offset the defensive weakness of our outside backs. I'd therefore like to see us work on a 4-2-3-1 formation with the following players... ------------------------------------------Sargent/Pepe-------------------------------- ------Pulisic--------------------Reyna---------------------------------Weah------ ---------------------McKennie---------------Adams--------------------------------- --Jedi------------Zimmerman----------Roginson-----------------Dest--- - Opponents would have to track the interchange of Pulisic, Reyna, & Weah as well as the late run into the box by McKennie. Dest & Jedi will still have opportunities to overlap and get into the attack as well. But when in defense McKennie & Adams will be better positioned to help defensively. It also gives us difference makers as bench.... Musah/Luca as subs for McKennie, Luca for Reyna, Aaronson for Weah/Pulisic,
I have to be honest. Die hard fan here. When we failed last time I was so jaded and angry, I didn't even watch our friendly matches. Something I never thought I could say. If we don't this time (I think we will) I don't really see a reason to support this team. Not because of the players, but because our federation is "stupid". Picked that to keep it friendly. As a crazy Crew fan, I know the faults of Gregg. Have known them for a while. We have been calling it Berhalter ball. I call it sideways ball. I really don't think we have gotten this far besides our talent. Why? I see our players, even if they don't start, play at such a high level for their clubs. Especially in comparison to what we see for the national team. Gregg is so tactically inept. So much so most of us on this channel would at least make a better starting lineup most games. Not saying we'd kill it. But he doesn't have the ability to change. Canada's coach would have us Crushing everyone in our region. My opinion. So worth what paid. Meaning nothing.
What kind of die hard fan stops watching their team when they lose lol that's literally the definition of a fairweather fan. Obviously disappointing when we missed it last time, and would be absolutely devastating if we missed it again, but those aren't reasons to bail on your nation's team.
Goalkeepers: Zack Steffen Matt Turner Sean Johnson Full backs: Sergino Dest Antonee Robinson Deandre Yedlin Joe Scally Center backs: Miles Robinson Chris Richards Walker Zimmerman John Brooks Midfielders: Giovanni Reyna Tyler Adams Weston Mckennie Yunus Musah Kellyn Acosta Luca de la Torre Forwards: Timothy Weah Jordan Pefok Christian Pulisic Brenden Aaronson Ricardo Pepi Jordan Morris
You guys are talking like brooks is already out of next window am I missing something? I feel like gregg won’t bring him but he definitely isn’t out of our cb pool I don’t think I guess we can hope he pulls something out of his all knowing hat and play him
Hard to say for sure. Gregg has done U-turns before so it's not out of the question now but that's 2 rosters in a row that Brooks wasn't called in so we'll have to wait and see I guess.
Brendan Aaronson is a midfielder, he has been terrible at the forward/winger position, he plays in the middle for his club team, am I missing something
Chandler plays a different position than Morris. LB /LWB vs. Left forward. I'm not high on Chandler tbh. He wants to play in WCs but doesn't want to do the dirty work in CONCACAF. Not high enough quality to make up for all the other deficiencies in mentality/attitude.
Qatar ? Hold up you guys will most likely lose to Mexico than have two tough matches against Panama who beat you already and go to Costa Rica where the US has historically struggled
I'm not sure why you guys are confused about Aaron Long. Think really hard, and be honest. Can you remember the last time he played poorly? Had a bad game? I know I can't remember one. I do remember some of our "locks" having a bad game here or there, but not Aaron Long. It's logic, pure and simple.
Aaron long is a player that can not read the channels and often gets fought ball watching, he’s coming off a serious injury. To have him over ccv or brooks is ludicrous.
@@nFWAYGo Aaron has O IQ like you said and is less athletic than Richards or Robinson or Zimmerman. He’s clumsy with his feet under pressure and he’s been injured for a year! Like tac said. That’s worse than being in bad form bc you’re not even close to match fit. I wanna c ccv asap.
I guess the sarcasm didn't come through in my post. No matter how good or bad a player was, when they haven't played in this long they should be very far down the depth chart.
WHY EVEN BOTHER TALKING ABOUT A WC ROSTER WHEN YOU HAVENT QUALIFIED YET? VS MÉXICO (AWAY) VS PANAMÁ (HOME) VS COSTA RICA (AWAY) ALL TEAMS WITH GREAT CHANCES OF QUALIFYING & WITH EASIER REMAINING QUALIFIERS THAN THE USMNT. MOST LIKELY ON MISSING THE WORLD CUP, AGAIN.
You want people to care about u.s.soccer, but crap on the MLS...how can it grow in the u.s. ? and Why should anyone care about U.S. soccer if usl and mls are always being crapped on?
You guys are trying to read the mind of a coach which is interesting because if Greg is so predictable, then opposition coaches are going to have a field day. That's scary.
There is no reason for Jordan Morris to be on the team anymore. He doesn’t bring much to the attack or even the setup. There are better and younger options. His time has come and gone.
Steffen Turner Johnson Brooks Zimmerman Richards Robinson Dest Yedlin A Robinson Scally Mckennie Adams Acosta Yunus musah Gio Reyna Luca de la Torre/Busio Weah Pulisic Aaronson Sargent/Pepi Pefok Morris
this was the most disturbing video you guys have done.......it is obvious you have given up any possibility of GGG making reasonable decisions (Brooks, Scally, Sargent) as opposed to essentially choosing MLS center backs and MLS strikers who are not collectively at a World Cup talent level
Everyone giving up and coming back to MLS for the money, is why we missed the World Cup 4 years ago. If guys like Pepi miss the team because they actually challenged themself to play at a higher level, it'll send the wrong message. Would Ferreria or Zardes be doing any better than Sargent playing in the Premier League? I honestly doubt it.
Not exactly. Yedlin is 28 and has given all he could have in Europe. Realistically he’ll slowly be phased out post 2022 while the younger guys improve. Missing 2018 was more about being badly managed rather than the quality of talent
I wouldn't even say that Acosta had a great game vs Honduras. He had great delivery on set pieces but other than that had a pretty forgettable performance
Don't forget, Filippo - 1/3 of the country will only like the halftime show if it's an albino in a cowboy hat eating white bread overflowing with mayonnaise.
