When 588 Wendish Sorbs decided to emigrate from their home country in Prussia and Saxony, they were faced with a perilous journey across Europe and the Atlantic ocean.
This installment chronicles the journey of the blacksmiths, tailors, gardeners, farmers, laborers, maids, watchmakers, cabinet-makers, harness-makers, locksmiths, metal-grinders, wheel-wrights, weavers, brick masons, shoemakers, potters, and several Häusler (land-owners) that intended to establish their own self-sufficient colony in the new world of Texas, with Jan Kilian as their religious leader.

Greetings from Melbourne Australia.. I am one of many descendants of Johann Carl Pech and Maria Freitag who departed Hamburg in 1850. I can tell you that of the wends that went to Australia.. Most of them settled in the Barossa Valley just north of Adelaide, South Australia... and from there, successive generations spread out all over the country. They started with nothing, as farmers living on the edge of society in harsh desert-like conditions, and went on to help build a nation...

Thank you, I have been balancing a few different projects and have some finishing touches to add to Pt. 3 but it should be done sometime in the next few months. Very glad you enjoyed it, and hopefully it helps tell the story of the Wends to a wider audience. Appreciate your kind words.

Some of Moerbe's descendants lived in Port Arthur, Tx.

Yes! A large contingent of the Wends and other familial Prussians / Saxons ended up residing in the PA area, with many (inlcuding the Moerbes) still residing in both places in the present day. Thank you for stopping by and commenting, Dorothy.
