We saw Loretta Lynn perform at our county fair, here in Wisconsin, about 35 years ago. It was pouring rain, which turned into a severe thunderstorm warning. They unplugged all their equipment, but Loretta grabbed an acoustic guitar, kicked her shoes off and proceeded to sing to the crowd that remained. She walked around in mud up to ankles and we all had a great time!

Ten years ago, give or take, I saw Loretta Lynn in concert. I am not a huge country music fan, and I bought the tickets for my parents. They couldn't go, so I went and took my daughter. I paid for tickets, and by God someone was going to go. I absolutely loved it. She was a wonder. I could have listened to her stories all night. What an entertainer. I am sad to hear of her passing.

I always get choked up and emotional when I see another WW2 Vet has passed. These men were all from my Father's era and he was a veteran of WW2 as well. My Dad passed 11-5-2015 at the age of 92. The Greatest Generation.

13 years ago, I visited the Palm Springs Air Museum with my son, who has been obsessed with WWII aircraft since he was 4-5 years old. The P-51 Mustang is his favorite plane, and he memorized all kinds of details of that plane. As he was beside himself checking out a real one at the museum, I noticed four elderly gentlemen sitting nearby. Knowing the docents at the museum included WWII veterans, I assumed that at least one of these men probably actually flew these planes. Two of them turned out to be fighter pilots who flew Mustangs in air battles! I told my son, "There are some guys over here you are going to want to meet..." He was thrilled. For him this was like meeting a favorite actor or rock star, but better. The planes and history were wonderful, but meeting those heroes is the experience we won't forget. I know they are all gone now, but they were the real treasures.

I remember Loretta Lynn came to Panzer Kaserne, Boeblingen Germany in 1984. Most folks not in the Army don't even know where that is. We were probably the smallest and least of places she could have gone, but she showed up and she gave a good show. We never got visited by any other VIP, Congressman, or whatever, but she found us. Thx Loretta for loving soldiers!

She also was involved in Amateur Motocross. Her huge estate hosted AMA Competition crucial to Young , talented, boys and girls. Many winners from Loretta Lynn's amateur program, went on to be Very Successful riders going to the top of the Sport. The phrase," if you preform well it at Loretta's, the Sky's the Limit". I wouldn't say country music is gone, but I would say that a certain Era is closing & an icon is gone -- I remember when her movie came out especially & I think even though my mom wasn't a huge country fan, she & my aunt seemed to identify with her because they were coal miner's daughters, too, & grew up poor, too (partly because of the depression).

I thought Robert Brown was the most handsome man who ever lived. From the time I was a kid and watched Here Comes the Brides, I had the biggest crush on him. I got chills hearing the obituary of Cleatus Lebow. I read the story about the Indianapolis and what those men went through after its sinking. Absolutely incredible he lived to 98 and to learn one Indianapolis survivor still remains. RIP to Mr. Lebow and all the crew members of the Indianapolis.😢

I remember watching that live and I think that was the year they said they had to finish the race, no matter what and the way his dad came out there and got him .... my heart just swelled up with pride. I was so tickled when he waved that man off and got his son and they crossed the finish line together. I was so hoping Derek would try again, but he went on to be a motivational speaker. I was shocked to see his obituary. Condolences to his family at this most difficult time.

Robert Brown was a remarkable actor, I confess Here Come The Brides was the only production I saw him in but he delivered with such power , simplicity & masculine sensitivity that I , as I'm sure many others were duly impressed. Sacheen Littlefeather a gifted creative lady who's productivity as an actor was stifled because she accepted an award for Brando Cjickenshit of Hollywood producers & chickenshit of Brando who wasn't at Wounded Knee as claimed, but huddled up in his Beverly Hills mansion

Bill Keane, the illustrator, went to high school in Philadelphia with my dad at North Catholic, and drew a family cartoon for my dad at a H.S. re-union. I was told he was a very nice man. // ETR

Soar with the angels to those who have passed this week. I remember most of the tv and movie celebs. My favorite country female singers were Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton, The Judds, and Reba McIntyre. Were and still are. I got a chance to meet Sacheen Littlefeather at the Academy Awards in 1973. I know I feel old as she was only a few weeks younger than me. God Bless those wonderful servicemen too.

I'm surprised that since he was a former football player and she was a filmmaker that they didn't have life insurance, etc for their families in case something happens since they were involved with something so risky is rock climbing.
