Well, technically he was more like the grouchy dad that yelled a lot. But yeah, clearly, he changed A LOT back when the titular kid grew up, from basically a neglectful and kind of half-witted slob, to I guess a tightly wound guy, that supposedly tried to make up for his lack of parenting skills, once his spouse was out of the picture. Besides... I think some of the teachers at his school might be a bit abusive themselves, given how one of them seemed to take his anger out on the kid, by basically forcing him to do roughly a week's worth of work in about a day, or have to do PE related stuff every evening for the rest of the week.
@@retrogamelover2012 yeah but to be fair he did ride through the school on his bicycle and landed head first at his desk, so I'd actually say that's a tame punishment given the circumstances, but I do see your point however.

This special is a huge turning point, expanding on from the first two seasons and ending up being a decade-early forerunner to season 3. To me, this should be the finale.
Like damn, this is by far the best espisode in the series since every character have time to interact which isn't only in 3 minutes. The Dad, Kid, Sister and inbred monkey guy have full on personalities instead of afew tropes and traits.

I remember seeing something about this show about 20 years ago with my friends and cracking up. Glad to finally be able to watch it and found it pretty funny
It's been a damn near century since I've had the energy or attention span to watch any sort of animations since the newground era. This is very fascinating and catches my attention. So many things to admire in this style, characters, pacing, and everything else. Good stuff!
I bet he acts out because he misses his mom. I know some kids that have been mean to me at school before, and my mom says that it's because they have crappy home lives (she happens to know their guardians).
i remember when i was younger and this episode was only shown a handful of times on bbc three. i fucking loved it and always wondered why they never made more this long. it’s a solid show
