Roger rabbit is one of those movies that I have the poster hanging in the basement. An all time favorite of mine, it’s about time I checked out some of the locations. Filmed primarily in the UK but also on location in Los Angeles. Let’s take a step back to classic Hollywood and compare some them and now the classic. Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Enjoy!
The following is from Wikipedia
Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a 1988 American fantasy comedy film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman. It is loosely based on the 1981 novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? by Gary K. Wolf. The film stars Bob Hoskins, Christopher Lloyd, Stubby Kaye, and Joanna Cassidy, with the voices of Charles Fleischer and Kathleen Turner. Combining live-action and animation, the film is set in an alternate history Hollywood in 1947, where humans and cartoon characters (referred to as "toons") co-exist. Its plot follows Eddie Valiant, a private investigator with a prejudice against toons, who must help exonerate Roger Rabbit, a toon framed for murder.
Walt Disney Pictures purchased the film rights for the story in 1981. Price and Seaman wrote two drafts of the script before Disney brought in executive producer Steven Spielberg and his production company, Amblin Entertainment. Zemeckis was brought on to direct, and Canadian animator Richard Williams was hired to supervise the animation sequences. Production was moved from Los Angeles to Elstree Studios in England to accommodate Williams and his group of animators. While filming, the production budget began to rapidly expand, and the shooting schedule ran longer than expected.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released through Disney's Touchstone Pictures banner in the United States on June 22, 1988. The film received acclaim from critics, who praised its visuals, humor, writing, and performances, with critics and audiences considering it to be "groundbreaking". It grossed over $351 million worldwide, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 1988. It brought a renewed interest in the golden age of American animation, spearheading modern American animation and the Disney Renaissance. It won three Academy Awards for Best Film Editing, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects and received a Special Achievement Academy Award for Williams' animation direction.
In 2016, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

I live in Los Angeles (where I was born, raised, still here as of 2024) and I can tell you that’s the spot of Eddie’s Office. The building was torn down around 2019. It was an old small apartment building in it's time called the Fra Apartments. It originally had opened in 1909 as a small luxary apartment complex. The place was completely boarded up, abandoned, and looked a little burnt out and gutted going back to at least the mid-2000s (around 2007.) I don’t know if the building was even salvageable by that point. The whole area built up fast between 2015 to 2023. If you had visted that same area say in 2013 it would of still looked somewhat like it did in the movie. The Red Car Depot building across from Eddie's apartment in the film was just a set on a lot.

So sad that the very beautiful street with Eddy's office is completely gone 😢. I was in L.A. early May and I saw the tunnel and I was very surprised to see it was not in good state. For a French guy like me the american politic of not taking care of your heritage and history is a bit surprising 😅. Thanks for your video though !

Be careful with a drone. If you are taking drone footage and using it in a profit platform, you need a commercial drone license. If you get caught, you will have a fine to pay.
@RandomlyRandy58
@RandomlyRandy58 Год назад
The drone rules are ridiculously complicated and vary greatly depending on type of drone and type of flying done. Also big changes coming in September for drones them selves. I have spent lots of time studying … that being said, thanks for the heads up!
