I knew the tatted guy didn't do a lot of time because he's waking up at 10AM. I don't know specifics but I do know prisons have mandatory wake up times and I imagine that the longer you're in the cell, the more your body gets used to waking up early every day. I'm pretty sure that's why they asked that particular question and were so surprised by his answer.
I was gonna say, I worked at a prison and unless they had a medical exemption everybody had to at the very least walk the track during their allotment everyday. And people who didn’t do that probably bothered him because some guards will punish the entire group for one person who isn’t following the rules.
Attempted murder means his victim survived. So 14 years for attempted murder, 21-life for murder... Seems about right. But at the same time the Justice system is flawed... You have people walk away with a lot less time in other situations.
@@hetbet3879 If you listen to him he says "1st degree murder and attempted murder." Idk why they didn't caption it correctly. And I can't imagine him being sentenced at 16 for 82 years if it was only attempted murder.
The American prison system is just disgusting. It should be about rehabilitation, not abuse. The Swedish and the Nordic system are a stellar example of how prison should be. In America, we treat prisoners like they're subhuman. And they aren't. Now, I understand the most hardened violent criminals or sickos shouldn't be given a lot of leeway or whatnot, but they still do not deserve to be abused by the staff. Perhaps engagement and socializing, but not abuse. Another problem is usually the food there is quite often not qualified for human consumption. Then there's the fact that prisons are used for what is essentially slave labor. And the absolute worst thing is solitary confinement due to the psychological damage it does to people.
The fact that its called the Department of Corrections is the biggest joke. Locking humans in solitary for months at a time is insanely inhumane among all the othe r bs in the prison system. People need to understand that defund the police does not mean abolish the police it simply means that funds need to be repurposed toward community building and infrastructure. Because poverty leads to high likelihood that one will commit crime. Putting someone in timeout without helping them to do better next time makes zero sense.
Tbh most cases of solitary confinement is justified, and it takes a lot before they dump ppl into solitary, it’s not like what the movies show at least not anymore….
@@kadeemmarajeen1879 I dont really watch prison/jail shows but I know people who have been in solitary and those that know of solitary. I understand that people may need to be separated from the group. That being said often times “the hole” is meant not only to separate you but to also break you down/make you more submissive. The confinement is smaller, access the light may be lessened and human interaction may be lessened as well. Humans are interactive beings we feed off of others interaction almost like nutrients. The more someone is in solitary they can begin to lose cognitive function. Jails/prisons have never focused on the well being of the inmates as a priority. So yes to be solitarily confined maybe justified but their needs to be a day limit or healthy living spaces. Just bc someone is in prison for doing wrong or allegedly doing wrong doesnt mean they should be treated like animals
@@isaiah9634 I understand how u feel but like I said, “solitary confinement” or “the hole” isn’t like what movies depict it as. The actual word for it these days is restrictive housing. It separates general population inmates from the worse of the worse. There are 6 security levels for inmates, G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, then Restrictive housing. No matter what crime an inmate has committed, they all have the opportunity to work their way down to the G1-G2 level. Now to clear up the depictions of restrictive housing, the cells are the same size of the other cells from what I’ve seen, though human interaction is limited for understandable reasons. Inmates still get to have possession of their property so they won’t be bored all day, still get to go to rec at least once a week, still have the opportunity to come of their cell once a day, still have the opportunity to buy commissary and still has the opportunity to speak to mental health at any time. The number 1 reason for inmates getting put in restrictive housing is having a number of assault cases while in prison, either on other inmates or staff. U probably didn’t know this but restrictive housing is also used to protect certain inmates from other inmates in general population that literally wants to kill them. In fact many inmates request restrictive housing upon entering prison.
Honestly his original sentence sounds fair, he’s lucky to just have gotten 14 years. I mean we’re talking about *FIRST DEGREE* murder which is a fully fledged premeditated plan that the offender was willing to carry out. Granted it was attempted but we don’t know the details so it could’ve been he was caught before it happened or he actually did it but the victim survived. Either ways he was still definitely in the wrong and deserved whatever sentence they gave. 16 is young but at that age we all have sense enough to know that murder is wrong so it’s not like he was unaware of his actions. Regardless tho, I do commend him for changing his life around
Not necessarily. Depending on where you're raised and who you're raised by at 16 a lot of kids could easily not have as much sense as they should. The justice system is extremely flawed and instead of sending young men to prison for life they should be able to have a chance to be evaluated to see if there is a chance for redemption.
@@NickTemperistic ……Cap. No matter how you’re raised everybody knows basic morals unless you’re a psychopath, “thou shalt not kill, steal, deceive etc.” You’re upbringing can affect how you view things but deep down I think there is an innate morale that we as human beings can all understand, we just choose to follow it or not. Even a child knows right from wrong so him being 16 which is only 2 years from being recognized as a legal adult is not a good enough excuse…
@@onedollarbleach6891 No cap at all and no reason to bring religion into this discussion which is also used to fuel people into committing murder. You're very presumptious and I hope in the future you'll do some research before talking on a subject which you seem to know very little about. Also for many people you aren't an adult until the age of 21
Right, like the hypocrisy with these people. They only feel bad because now they can say he’s changed however black and brown kids with the same charge aren’t getting the same sympathy
@@cityrat3237 No they feel bad because they just learned what happened to a 16 year old boy and that he might be getting deported soon. Also statistics won't tell you everything and we need to be careful as to where we are getting said stats.
Spoilers ahead I watched this yesterday and never had expected the asian man to have the longest sentence. I like hearing stories about people who turned their lives around after going through the trenches. That should let everyone know that it's never too late to turn your life around depending on the situations you're in. Another thing I took away from this video is that looks can definitely be deceiving.
first degree murder and attempted murder (not attempted murder alone) He mentioned it in another video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-530_Bg3AIjQ.html
@@NickTemperistic Justin Chung, 17, and Pyung Hwa Ryoo, 18, of Fontana allegedly shot and killed Eric Huang of Arcadia on Aug. 17 after the two teenagers mistook Huang and his friends for rival gang members, detectives said. The driver of the car in which Huang was a passenger also was injured. “They were at a party, and there was a confrontation. The Han Kook Boys thought they were from Wah Ching, which was an enemy of Han Kook,” said Detective Kevin Lowe of the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. “But the victims were college boys.” Han Kook Boys is a Korean gang with members mostly in the eastern San Gabriel The two suspects were charged with the murder of Huang, 21; the attempted murder of Calvin Yao, also 21; and with shooting at an occupied vehicle, according to Deputy District Attorney Pete Bliss.

I knew the white dude did a white collar crime. I figured that the Mexican guy didn't wasn't the one with the most time. Alot of it is the perception of appearance. Just because he has all those tats and because he's Mexican people already assume he's a hardened criminal. I wasn't really sure what the white girl had done and how much time she had. That Korean dude really shocked me. That was definitely racism that put him away for that long.
@@danilapolesciuk4316 I think she meant there's been white kids involved in similar crimes who've gotten less initially, not that he wasn't lucky to get 14 years. I mean American prison sentences are crazy long anyways, where I live that type of crime would be 12-30 years for under 18s (more likely 30/40 for over 18s as 30 is the starting point for premeditated murder).
