Who Invented Monotheism? - The Naked Archaeologist 301 - Moses VS Akhenaton

The Bible says that Moses was the first person to bring the idea of Monotheism - the worship of one God and one God only - to the ancients. But Sigmund Freud has a different idea. The famous psychoanalyst wrote a book crediting a little known Pharaoh named Akhenaten with the idea. He says Moses heard about it from Akhenaten, not directly from God. But it all depends on timing. Simcha investigates who came first: Moses or Akhenaten?
Ladies, if you're expecting Harrison Ford to run across your screen wearing nothing but a fedora and carrying a bullwhip, you're out of luck. Instead, this show finds previously "serious" documentarian Simcha Jacobovici channeling his inner Michael Moore, as he travels the Middle East seeking to uncover the truth behind biblical events. Jacobovici interviews Holy Land scholars and compares notes with leading archaeological experts, offering startling new theories behind the stories while having fun in the process.

Research the name Serapis Christus. His depiction and back story predate Christ's but they're undeniable the same. Also, look at Casear Borgia, and how he commissioned Italian artists to start depicting him as Jesus. Borgia was the son of the Pope. Look at the books that were taken out of the bible; the Apocrypha texts. Or just start from the beginning; look at how Christianty; which started 200 yrs after the death of Christ is eriely similar to to the Egyptian Book of the Dead

Seriously, does it matter who brought us to the knowledge of the one true God? Don't we realize that Abram was not the first to receive the priesthood from God, but that he received it from Melchizedek? Why is it difficult to accept that God uses individuals not of Israeli decent as a percerser to bringing to us His truth?

In your own “The Exodus Revealed” , you have altered the Timeline into the mud 16th Century BCE. So Akhenaten being in 5he 14th Century is 200 years after the Exodus. That he tried to establish monotheism in Egypt, was due to his Dynastic family being the Pharaoh that adopted Moses not the Hyksos Pharaoh of Lower Egypt( Goshen). It still is uncertain where the border between the two actually was located. And as you have pointed out, Ahmose means “the brother of Moses”. Since he was the one to finally eject the Hyksos, Circa 1500BCE that would place Exodus Circa 1545 BCE.

I agree the Sun was symbology and representing Source/God and our shared energies/Souls. That girl has a predetermined dislike of Akhenaten. She has been highly influenced by "Mainstream Archaeology Myth". They do this to support their Darwinian Theory Paradigm.

Concept of one god is older than Moses or Akhenaton, Abraham etc. First time this concept was proposed was by Krishna 9500 bc, who preached the Sanatan religion to the Yadava people and was a very observant philosopher and Vishnu was his god. He discovered the divine design of Vishnu, who is the cause of the evolution of the world and is the conjoined essence and object of meditative wisdom and active virtue (karma).

Even more stunning is that Ekhnaton has also theorized in his "Hymn to Aten" poem that Time itself is created by the Sun, as Time is nothing else but an illusion created by the Sun moving across the horizon every day with the same speed. Modern Physics really got nothing on Ekhnaton. Mathematical language is just simple man's fascination with symbolism and equations.

Well, why doesn't anyone bring up the fact that Abraham followed the One God centuries before Moses was ever born?
@mr.monster91666
@mr.monster91666 3 года назад
Yeah but even in the time of Abraham there were supposedly multiple gods it wasn't really until Moses that the Ten Commandments were made and God commanded the worship of only the one guy. But Abraham's father was pagan and a priest of many gods in the city of most likely Abraham worshipped EL .
@johaquila
@johaquila 3 года назад
At least in part because it's not a fact. The story of Abraham was an oral tradition before it was written down along with the story of Moses. But even when the story was written down, there was still a theological problem, which was addressed as follows: Abraham's God was initially known as El, the name of the highest god of the Canaanite. (Strictly speaking, the name is ambiguous, because El just means Lord and was applied to other gods as well.) The biblical story explains how El reveals his name, Yahweh, to Moses in Exodus 3:13 and 6:2. (The name appears earlier, even in Genesis. That's because Genesis and Exodus are cobbled together from two sources, one of which uses the 'secret' name even before it is revealed. That's also why God reveals his name twice.) The point of this story is clearly to resolve a theological problem: Reconciliation between the worship of an earlier god (referred to as El) and Yahweh. The Second Commandment is quite clear: _you shall have_ no other gods, not _there are_ no other gods. The existence of other gods is taken for granted; it's just worshiping them that is not allowed. Also, in 2 Kings 3:27, the king of Moab prevents certain defeat by the Israelites by sacrificing his eldest son. It doesn't make sense that he would have sacrificed to Yahweh. (Why would Yahweh even have honored the sacrifice?) Most likely, the king of Moab sacrificed to Chemosh, the national god of the Moabites. _And was successful._ And then there is the little issue of Asherah. This goddess was worshiped throughout the region and was often the consort of the most important god. It appears that Asherah was considered Yahweh's consort for longer than one would expect. The most convincing historical explanation of the Moses story so far is that the Levites started as a Canaanite priest caste (or something similar) in Egypt, underwent something similar to the Exodus story, brought the tendency towards monotheism with them (more precisely monolatry), and installed themselves in the promised land, controlling its religion. So the Levites came up with a foundational myth explaining how El, the highest god of the Canaanites, is identical with Yahweh and doesn't want the Israelites to worship the other gods any more. This also explains why 1 named + 10 unnamed tribes (Joseph and his unnamed brothers) turn into 12 named tribes (including Levi) later on.

@@johaquila to put it simply all abrahamic religions today worship a pagan God that separated and demanded worship of only one. 🙏 is there any connection do you think with Akhenaten and his one God?
@johaquila
@johaquila 3 года назад
@@mr.monster91666 I am not an expert, but I don't find the video convincing. To support its hypothesis, it makes a number of claims that seem to be very far from scholarly consensus. However, Moses is an obviously Egyptian name and the time around Akhenaten does seem to be a perfect fit for the Exodus story. There are some additional supporting facts that haven't been mentioned in the video. Perhaps most importantly, the description of the tabernacle in Exodus fits the tent of a Pharaoh. So I think the hypothesis that Moses was an important personality in the Aten cult is extremely convincing and probably the best one available for the Exodus. Moreover, given how radical the changes were, I really doubt that Akhenaten came up with all this on his own. This smells like conversion to an existing religion. Perhaps the Yahweh cult was originally brought from Edom to Egypt by the Hyksos, and became monolatric in Egypt, before being transported to Israel by the expelled Hyksos = Levites.

I think the Hebrews in Egypt worshiping One God was the influence and the inspiration for pharoh Akhenaten to convert to worshiping One God. It’s admitted after 5 years of his reign pharoh Akhenaten converted to worship One God. In typical Egyptian fashion, Akhenaten worshiped One God, but as represented by the sun. It’s obvious pagan Egyptians were influenced by the Hebrews worshiping One God and living among them.

True. His birth name was Yahshua/Yeshua according to Hebraic lore. This name was given to him by the angel Gabriel; a divine name. There's no globally recognized translation for Krishna, Vishnu, or Buddha. So why is there's an inaccurate translation of a name given to the messiah by the angel Gabriel. The old testament is comprised of the first 4 or 5 books of the Torah. So you have Christians, teaching Judaic traditions, but not following Judaism. Judaism is comprised of dozens of religions from ancient Canaanite to Phoenician. There's a reason why Christians simply say God; which is a title, instead of referring to an actual Hebraic name.
@sedwillful

@K 97 it's in Mathew; others accounts are in Luke, where he's called Emmanuel. Then name jesus is only mentioned in the new king james versions; all 2300 of them; literally that many versions of one incorruptible word. Gabriel references mary in her hebraic name. Jesus is a hellanistized version; a blasphemy. The Messiah was neither roman nor jew; he was an enemy of the state. Calling him by that name only gives power to the people who killed him

He was the general of the military who took over Egypt after Aiye the pharaoh who took over after died. On the bricks you will see the guards or Military men, holding weapons hiding around a corner listening to the people. Poor citizens in conversation. The pounced and beat them, arrested them if they were found speaking against the Pharaoh. Ancient form of Communism and NSA. Also for the 1st time we see the people having to grovel on the ground, kissing the dirt before Akenaten and Nefertiti. You were not allowed to pray to the Aten. Only Akenaten and Nefertiti could. What Akenaten did was remove all the gods and goddesses who were the sons and daughters of the Aten and put his own family there instead. He was NOT a monothiest at all. He ans his family on earth were gods. If he was Jewish he was a heretic and very cruel king.

We have no basis to say what Moses believed, or whether or not he was monotheistic. There is no Hebrew writing that goes back to his time. There are several polytheistic verses in the Old Testament. Monotheism did not become a mainstream position until Ezra's time (480-440 BC). Akhenaton (r. 1353-1336 BC) was a guy who believed in one god, but the category of monotheism did not exist in his time. The religion of Aton-worship died out almost immediately after he died. His memory was systematically erased. The idea that he was a kind of monotheistic rebel originated with American archeologist James Henry Breasted at the end of the nineteenth century.

Not all semites are/were monotheists. The Canaanites had a pantheon of gods, the Elohim, and Yahweh was only El's son. Habiru originally meant wanderer/nomad. The "my god is better than your god" competition is NOT monotheism, because if there is only one god, there is no competition.

Interesting. For real? Well not clear. Interesting anyway. We always wonder what influences Egypt had on Moses. There were Arks in Egypt. Did Moses adapt any Egyptian things? This would be an interesting discussion. To much speculation

Good theory. They are related no doubt. However, worship of the Aten was practiced in the early Egyptian dynasties. Aten is a very old God. How do you explain that? The early Aten followers left Egypt and became the Haibiru? Maybe.....

With all due resepct. Monotheism is the oldest religion. Check out the ANTHROPOLOGY on this. The most culturally "primitive" tribes in Australia believe in one and only one God who is wise and good. There is an interesting book called the "Oera Linda book" It's fascinating. It purports to be prediluvian. It's about a Germanic family. It's a matriarchal culture that is monotheistic. It explains that cities created polytheism to generate money. It's also a maritime culture. Don't dismiss it. Read it. It also explains that the original one language was deliberately adulterated into other languages by people creating secret languages so they could lie.

You missed joseph's influence, the number two behind the pharoh, and a monotheistic hebrew, i think about 400 years before ahkenaton. I wonder how you missed that. I appreciate your show a lot btw.

Abraham brought monotheism

That's extraordinarily unlikely. First, it's highly debatable as to whether there actually was a historical figure known as Abram/Abraham as depicted in the Hebrew bible. Many scholars are very convinced that he is a patriarchal archetype, as primary source material is not well corroborated. Secondly, it's been well substantiated how the Israelites were not monotheistic until the post exilic period. Prior to that they were polytheistic/henotheistic as demonstrated by the literary and archeological evidence.

@@JesusIsaFlatEarther "scholars aren't always right." Gee, what a profound statement, I say sarcastically. It's about as profound as saying that water is wet. Scholars with academic freedom rely upon the best evidence available at the time. This is the historical method; as no one can recreate the past historical events and their context, we have to examine literary source material and archeological evidence to best determine what is most probable. "Take for instance the reemergence of the motionless flat earth science, which will require the reeducation of billions and many new books written." "flat earth science"?! There's an oxymoron. The earth is an oblate spheroid. It's been empirically demonstrated to be so. Also, I have no idea why you're dismissing Einstein's mathematical abilities.
@JesusIsaFlatEarther
@JesusIsaFlatEarther 3 года назад
@@nonprogrediestregredi1711 given there's no curvature of the Earth to be found anywhere, that in itself proves Einstein was at best a mathematical idiot. If you'd defend a mathematical idiot, that says a lot about you. And info you, theoretical science is the oxymoron, because nothing proposed by the religion of theoretical scientism can be demonstrated with a scientific experiment, it must believed in.

If Akhenaten was 13th century bc and simcha himself has established that mosses lived during 16th century bc santorini volcanic eruption, then moses prefates akhenaten, so why is he saying what he is saying? Did he not know yet about moses while making this?

When I first heard Simcha speak {the accent}, I wondered if he is {at least in part} native american. That name is certainly a Jewish name... and he once spoke of Canada.............. so then i wondered if he is a mix of native american and Jew, living in Canada. Not that this has anything to do with the Habiru/Hebrew. But my compliments to his wife>> good taste, lady!
