BTO - such an underrated band. Great 'catchy' rock stuff combined with really hard rockin' riffs! Arguably their first 4 albums (BTO, BTO2, Not Fragile and 4 Wheel Drive) are pretty much essential listening for any rock fan! Thanks for sharing this vid.🤘💯

I was 13 when 'You ain't seen...' came out, back in 74. When the only genre of Metal was Heavy Metal! Great to hear it again.

Yes! I try to explain to people that bands like Van Halen, Rush, AC/DC, and even Queen were for the most part considered Heavy Metal in the 1970s and they still insist on disagreeing with me. It’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. It happened.

Actually it was not called metall back then it was just Rock or Heavy/Hard Rock. Sabbath was in the Heavy/Hard Rock category. BTO was Rock 😋😈😎🇧🇻

Oh you are taking me back to my youth. There were so many good Canadian bands around this time. Not Fragile was the first bass lick I learned. You probably recognize the chorus of You Ain’t Seen Nothin Yet because it has been used in so many commercials and a couple of movies.

Two guitars two different lead vox, and that amazing bass tone you mentioned is Fred Turner's Rickenbacker...nothing else sounds like a Rick!

Randy, lead guitar and singing on the first. Fred, bass, and singing of the 2nd. You can hear a bit of jazz on a lot of their songs.

One of the best Live bands of the 70's that were very underrated. Got some air time on FM but the "drive" really shines live. They filled a void after a lot of the big stars joined the 27 Club (Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, etc) hard rock in your face. Nice reaction and I love watching you rock to this, that you can't fake you either feel the music or you are deaf.

The singer of the first song was Randy Bachman and the second was Fred Turner. Bachman was formerly in the Guess Who and was the author of the song "American Woman" as well as several other hits. You ain't seen nothin yet started out as a joke because Randy's brother had a stutter. The song was only used in the studio to set levels but Randy was talked into releasing it for this album which was short on tracks. Ironically, this was BTO's only US #1 single. I saw these guys in 1979 at the Dallas Civic Center and I was in 2nd row center right on the stage. A little known Judas Priest opened, then BTO, then Foghat. How's that for a weird line up? I remember being surprised that BTO rocked so hard live. I think their super compressed studio sound probably fooled me. They were pretty awesome live. Even though they had only this for a number 1, they had 5 Gold albums, 1 Platinum (US) and many hits including "Taking Care of Business", "Roll on Down the Highway", "Four Wheel Drive", "Hey You" and "Let it Ride". They are Canadian and did even better there with 6 Platinum and 1Gold. 30 million albums worldwide. If you listen to these guys again I highly recommend "Gimme Your Money Please" or any of the others I've already mentioned.

BTO might have been the first group that I actually went out & bought their albums when I was 11 or 12 years old...flipping through the record bins at Korvette's when mom dragged me out to shop for clothes, I'd disappear to the record dept & I can't remember a single piece of clothing I ever got but one way or another I'd walk out w/ BTO's new album...the ONLY thing that kept me from slitting my wrists when I was forced to go shopping w/ mom & my sister...oh god how they loved to "browse"...

Not Fragile is such a great sounding album. Recorded at the famous Sound City in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley. You profiled two of the four best tracks on the album (the other two being "Rock Is My Life And This Is My Song" and "Roll On Down The Highway"), but the song "Secondhand" has got the wickest, deepest basslines that rattles your fillings loose and then cuts you in half! Even moreso than on the song "Not Fragile" if that's possible. The drummer, Robin Bachman, is the third Bachman to play in the group, and if you listen to the band long enough you will learn that he loves his floor toms. More than any other drummer I've heard. Anyways, thanks for doing these two songs. Looking forward to hearing more B.T.O. from you in the future. Probably my favorite band from the early-to-mid-70's before I got into Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. **Edited to add: The album's name Not Fragile was a jab at YES' 1973 progressive album Fragile, as progressive music was considered Rock's red-headed stepchild. Also of note here is the addition of rhythm (and second lead) guitarist Blair Thornton who took their music up a notch after replacing Tim Bachman on rhythm guitar.

Dude, they were my favorite group for quite a while back in the mid 1980s.... I was obsessed... you ain't seen nothin yet is a huge hit.... still played on classic rock radio regularly.... Randy Bachman (lead guitar, and, for you Ain't Seen Nothing yet Lead Vocals), Blair Thornton (guitar), C.F. (Fred) Turner (Bass and normally the lead vocalist), and Robbie Bachman (Drums). Originally it had 3 bachmans, Tim Bachman was on 2nd guitar, but he left after their 2nd album and was replaced by Blair. Randy Bachman was one of the greatest guitarists in the world at the time, and Fred (CF) Turner was a KILLER bassist... The second song is sung by Fred Turner (the bassist)... oh yea and the bassist played Rickenbacker basses ... hence that amazing tone (and played with his fingers)... they overtracked a rhythm guitar track probably yea.... and yes both guitarists play lead

They were huge around the time I started college. Bachman was the guitarist for The Guess Who. He had some gall bladder issues while on tour and had to leave the band because of it. The Guess Who replaced him. Afterward, he played with another band for a while before forming BTO. I believe I heard that BTO's hit songs outsold The Guess Who's biggest hits.

One of the best hard rock bands of the 70s. For a few years they were all over the radio. Probably beginning with BTO II and the songs Let it Ride and Takin' Care of Business which were hits. They followed it up with the Not Fragile album which was probably their biggest album and then Four Wheel Drive was the next album and I think their popularity slowed a bit. It was probably due to changing times, like Punk Rock and then New Wave and then their was the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The drummer just passed away this year but Randy Bachman is still active, he Turner did a Bachman-Turner album recently and he had a really good solo album called Heavy Blues under the name Bachman which I believe had a female drummer and female bassist. Women musicians are amazing these days, The Warning, Dea Matrona, The Ally Venable Band, The Laura Cox Band, Larkin Poe and of course the Japanese Metal bands, but I am more into hard rock like these classic rockers Dea Matrona ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bubaRswCc4Y.html.

If you are headed down the path of listening to great 70's music, you need to take a listen to the "greatest guitarist you've never heard of", the legendary Rory Gallagher. His fans include Slash, Brian May, and even the late John Lennon; Rory even blew Aerosmith off the stage at the 1974 Schaefer Music Festival in New York (its in Joe Perry's autobiography). The Rolling Stones considered him as a top contender for the replacement of Mick Taylor but Rory was his own man not to be under the shadow of the egos in the Stones. His music encompasses several genres but blues and blues/rock is perhaps the best description. Take a listen to "Cradle Rock" on the Irish Tour '74 album, or "Who's That Coming?" from Tattoo to get an taste of what this Irish guitarist could do.

I still remember ripping the shrinkwrap off this album in 1974 and putting it on the turntable and listening to that opening baseline and those dualing solos by randy and blair. I wore the grooves on that album out. Listen to sledgehammer and rock is my life ( and this is my song ) too, as another poster mentioned. I love their early bluesy material on bto1 and bto2 albums too. They went downhill fast after their next album Four Wheel Drive ( title track was powerful )

600/700/800 HP street rods require powerful music. Holly double pumpers, offy high risers, cyclone headers, full race cams, air shocks, wheelie bars, Judson magnetos, Borg Warner, 8 track tape players blaring. Not Fragile was my go to cruising music when ogling the pretty girls and looking to take pot shots off of the line. 50 year old memories. BTW Casey, I love seeing the University of Oregon merchandise in your room!

Randy Bachman plays guitar and is the singer in You Ain't seen nothing Yet. Not Fragile is my fav song and album from BTO. Fred plays the bass and is the singer on Not Fragile. They both sing lead in songs. Nobody can belt out lyrics like Fred! This entire album rocks! BTO has been robbed of their rightful place in rock! They also do a killer version of House of the Rising Sun. To me better than the original.
