They should just let Willow have her own type of fire that doesnt spread and does more DOT so they can just mess with that without having to worry about balancing fire mechanics for everyone else
I was just thinking of something like that, they could make it a cool blue fire to distinguish between her fire and regular fires. Including when she lights a campfire and maybe when cooking raw food it's just a little bit more nutritious somehow. Willow tends to be a beginner character, and new players get weirdly intimidated when they see a crockpot so they use campfires instead.
or have more types of fires for her like a shadow flame that does spread and only damages enemies (not structures) but in return the more shadow flames that are around the harder it is to light places and the faster your sanity drains or a fire so hot and volatile that it does so much more damage but is much easier to spread around
I was thinking something similar but allowing her to swap between a stronger, non-spreading, single target fire and a normal burn the world group fire. Some kind of consumable using ash or something.
Personally hoping for Winona, Warly, and Willow since they're the three most in need of anything. Wouldn't be upset if any were replaced with Walter though.
willow, walter and warly make sense to me, since they all have an ability related to campfires and the previous animation was about gathering firewood. it'd be a nice continuation to have willow start it, walter tell a story and warly prepare a nice meal for the group
Honestly, I really like bernie because of his taunting, it's amazing for helping others (especially new players) survive hound attacks by letting them pick off one hound at a time. The issue for me is that while bernie seems to be a damage sponge he isn't really that good at soaking damage. A group of spiders can easily take him down before you can pick them off of him. I don't think he's bad, just unbearably average.
how i think they could buff willow: - make her lighter unbreakable again by letting it be usable at 0% durability - have her lighter able to absorb fire (like pyrotechnics explained) to restore durability, and make it have an actually good light radius above 0% - give her stronger fire damage, and maybe have her fire not burn the surroundings - fire affinities such as using a torch like a fire staff, using a fire staff to summon a Klaus-like fire aura, use red gems as coconade-style explosives, etc. these are just some of my favourite ideas i’ve had imagining what it would be like to have willow be an interesting character.
Yet her short shows her spontaneously combusting into flames after being locked in a closet, so she definitely has some sort of power… she’s literally immune to fire damage.
I kinda want an "enrage" mechanic for her like Dragonfly, if she gets below 33% health she bursts into flames, purging wetness and setting her temperature at 60 degrees which basically gives her freeze and fire immunity, gets a speed buff and does added fire damage every hit for 1.5x DPS (which gets weakened in rain or against wet mobs) until combat ends, or she gets back up to over 33% health. Would make her feel powerful, balanced by the fact she has to put herself at great risk for it. Or maybe make her absorb fire to enter this form for a short period of time in exchange for some sanity. And put her temperature to near-freezing level with a temperature lowering debuff when she exits the form. She also needs special augments for using fire-related items like you said. Allow her to craft some salves for her teammates to make them immune to fire for a period of time, or make her flames not damage allies in order to keep her viable as a teammate in battles.
I like where Klei is going with the skill trees, feels like it definitely helped my opinion on Woodie and Wormwood (still need to know how Woodie entered the Constant), and I think it can definitely help with Willow, too.
@@hunterst6321 Take care of the curse? Before his rework and in singleplayer, a lot of Lucy's quotes were about his curse and how they hated when he turned. I'd say Woodie feels the same.
BERNIE! doesn’t just fight against and taunt nightmare creatures, he works against all non boss mobs; he’s a lot better than this video is describing You’re also not seeing the incredible value setting mobs on fire has also; it both incapacitates a mob (since it panics and won’t attack while on fire) + it cannot be broken out of its stun, unlike sleeping and freezing; frozen and asleep mobs wake up upon being hit, but burning mobs will not be extinguished on attack. You can attack mobs with impunity with 0 risk to yourself as Willow with your fire immunity also, even without setting them directly on fire (since mobs being near fires and taking fire damage also makes them panic; they will drop their items not turned into ash if they’re killed in this circumstance as well) Willow is a lot better (even in her current state) than most people realize, especially when you realize you can use fire when you fight like the above! I implore you to look more critically into her abilities and what you can do with them if you’re creative.
I think Bernie has a lot of potential, he just attacks way too slow to stop anything but 1-5 smaller targets before he starts to get overwhelmed. I can understand that it's Willow's job to help pick the taunted enemies off of him, but he needs an aoe or fire based attack (preferably one that doesn't set the world on fire). One thing that doesn't get much appreciation though: when a shadow creature hits Bernie, if you attack it right after it hits Bernie, sometimes you can hit them up to 3 times before they teleport! Not sure if this is a bug in their ai, because sometimes when they successfully hit a player, they become vulnerable for longer; while other times they teleport after 1 hit like usual. You can occasionally see this in multiplayer - if a friend gets hit by a crawling horror/terrorbeak, sometimes you can get extra hits on the nightmare before it moves! Maybe BERNIE! is considered a 'player' to nightmares? As for fire combat... it works very well against things like 2 clockwork bishops, to distract one to essentially turn the fight into a 1v1 (for a time) is cool! It's just a pain if anyone else attempts to fight a fiery mob with Willow, and can only get 1-2 hits in before they start taking fire damage too. She's got lots of potential! Hopefully the skill tree helps her stand out a bit more interesting.
@@JenyaFio explain why am I racist? Character is boring and I doubt he will get any better with skill tree. Oh well, people see what they want to see, I guess
warbucks provavly could have been a cool character if the stats he had before removal weren't extremely boring. what kind of bonus is less durabilitly loss on ball peen hammers and a tiny abount of sanity over time from having money in exchange for -15 hp on uncooked meals.
Willow and the scalemail severely need reworks. Scalemail should work like an infinite cold insulation IMO. If it would work like a chilled amulet without losing durability it would be pretty op, but not losing any heat while wearing it would make it pretty viable when choosing between that and the furnace. It would also synergize with willow because now it's really useless on her. Now to fire. We need a higher DOT, and fire not burning non burnable loot. Now Willow. She needs an AOE ability wich grants everyone fire res (maybe including items). I know it's an ability for wigfrid but it's useless on her. Willow could actually use it. And finally, wendy deals more damage when attacking with abigail. Why couldn't Willow use that with fire too?
Calling it Her skill tree will have a triad or so of perks pertaining to.. an escalating buff to enemies on fire. 25-35% more damage to burning enemies could promote using fire And a perk to help- Contained Pyrotechnics Fires you light will not spread.
Willow could explode in flames like in her short and then after a couple of seconds the flames come back(like maybe make some dark analogy like the flames are the souls of the orphans idk) and that would remove the destructiveness and give her awesome forge type combat
If we're talking about the Don't Starve franchise as a whole, I would say Walani is definitely the most forgettable character. (Out of the implemented ones, of course.) If we're talking about DST exclusively, I would agree that Willow is the most forgettable.
@@FreddoFilms People often forget how much Strange New Powers shaped the character perks today. Before that update WX-78 couldn't eat gears or overcharge, Wicker had no books, even Abigail couldn't be intentionally summoned. Pretty much every character from the non-DLC base game is unrecognizable from their DST counterparts without it
In terraria there is a debuff your explosion sentries can inflict on enemies. Oiled up. Raises fire damage. Can't help but wonder if Willow becomes some kind of oil user.
There's a mod called uncompromising mode that adds an item that shoots lava Obtained after killing dragonfly Which causes damage but not fire damage Being able to kill spiders in one use Also in that mod, the fire will no longer burn loot, and willow will light everything arounder when she gets hit by a shadow creature which is the closest thing i found related to fire powers Which is almost all since no other mods give willow something useful Rather than joke mods
Isn't Willow role in Don't Starve Together is getting nightmare fuel for the team? She is great for it because of ability to manipulate her sanity (low max value help you become insane faster and skill to restore sanity near fire restores it in short amount of time) and Bernie being only companion capable of fighting Shadows. There is also her lighter and easier summer's for new players who don't have as much experience with it, as with winter.
I would definitely argue Wormwood is better for this purpose since they are able to easily manipulate their sanity by cutting down trees and replanting them. This on top of being able make living logs, makes Wormwood kind of a Dark Sword printer for the team, especially when combined with a Wortox.
This is a great take, I totaly agree, but i see how it can be hard to come up with good abilities for willow, one suggestion i have is she can craft special lighters, maybe a super bright lighter that's better than a lantern but you can still cook on and burn things with, or maybe a super hot ligher that burns blue and inflicts enemies with a devastating blue fire but doesn't spread or burn loot. (maybe that fire can spread between creatures but not items or structures idk) Or maybe give her a lighter that absorbs nearby fires and releases them as a giant fireball staff thing dealing all the combined damage over a few seconds. maybe she has an ability where she just explodes like the ancient herald idk. the part where all of this gets complicated is with balancing. i disagree with Fredo on one thing though i think Willow's concept is cool, a fire-bending psycho witch is interesting but it's just a shame Willow doesnt have that much to show for her character in gameplay.
I think I played as Willow once… maybe twice. But I played mostly Wilson until I unlocked Wendy, and Wendy until I unlocked WX-78. It’s strange, but I don’t remember my time playing as Willow, just that I did, at some point, use her as a stepping stone like you mentioned in this video.
I feel like since willow is immune to fire that setting herself on fire could be something she could do to make a sort of armor to damage attackers or outright kill weak foes like bees.
I'm thinking of some sort of a staff full of gasoline-ish liquid that you can coat creatures in, and if you apply fire to creatures coated in that gasoline, they will burn with like, 4x damage and wont spread fire around, unless covered in that liquid
Add a skill tree for Willow that has some quality of life conveniences, built-in character weakness offsets, a dash of fire-based abilities along with opportunity cost upgrade options, a craft or two, and various combat or utility buffs for her bear. Maybe her damage increases with every active fire that is currently in her vicinity, maybe every third attack does fiery cone blast style AOE damage that panics enemies for a brief moment but doesn't spread, or maybe her bear gets an AOE damage ground pound. Whatever the case, she is so underwhelming right now and needs a rework. She needs more perks to make her worth playing. When I look at the character selection screen I'm not looking at her fire immunity and bernie, I'm looking at Wormwood's farming affinity and crafts, Maxwells shadow servants and utility spells, Wolfgang's combat, Webber's portable army, Wendy's AOE aura sister, etc. Willow is OK at what she does, but she's not GREAT at it and she doesn't do much to begin with. She's good at nightmare fuel farming, but compared to Maxwell that's nothing, and Maxwell fulfills many other purposes as well. That man squad wipes entire forests and gathers the wood in his sleep. People want a unique character-specific playstyle where they can capitalize on their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses with moderate effort. Willow simply isn't unique or impressive in what she does. She either needs to be able to do more or get better at what she already does.
She could become the *enviromental* character. Making permanent fires for light and making easier solutions for winter and summer temperature, but still risking to burn the world down should her abilities be fumbled. I think that would be interesting as she would still be kind of nooby, since temperature and light isnt all that hard to manage for more experienced players, but shed atleast have some use.
People were wrong about willow i loved her the most when she was in her first dst version. Fire immunity makes no sence just because you are a pyromaniac dosen't mean you are allowed to swim in lava. Yes willow benefits from standing in fire but that's what scailmail is for. Not to mention that overheating is a thing so swimming in fire was not and still isn't a good idea. Overall it was more fun to have resistance. Freezing while being insane is infamous edgy pricks spooky campfire story. I've played willow plenty and the only time i froze was when winter was close or rain happened and dven then hello? Thermal stone. It was a very cool idea to remove cumbustion and instead give a reasonable excuse for acrazy fire lady to start fires - cuz she crazy and thinks she is freezing.
Hmm...Would it hurt the game to give her more fire-based crafts? Or perhaps play into her doll theme and make her be able to make dolls that could aid her in different ways? Or be a discount chester.
I kinda thought Walter would be on this list, but Willow makes more sense. Walter funnily enough is more well known for how mediocre he is, while Willow is just.. there. Here's hoping Klei can make a good skill tree for her, if Woodie's anything to shake at.
Klei said that willows role is farming nightmare fuel if i remember correctly but making a character who is mainly for farming one of the most abundant resources doesn't sound like a good idea for a character.
For the fire absorption thing they could explain it by having a short where, at some point between her original rework short and her appearance in One for the Books, she was a fire eater in the same circus where Wolfgang was a strongman
From what I have heard willow got her fire immunity removed because people would grief bases and then stand in fire. Not sure how nerfing that would stop people from burning bases but.. ok.
Pyrokinetics Explained got me thinking about the potential for items that are made by one character but used exclusively by another. PKE could be a book only Willow could read.
I think a fun downside for the pyromaniac Willow would be capping her sanity gain from non-fire related sources to 30% while increasing her sanity gain from fire and especially burning mobs. Bernie would fit into this scenario as he'd serve as the emergency tool to deal with low sanity of fire sources aren't available.
Walter, Willow and WX-78 need skill trees the most. Walter because he sucks, Willow because of reasons in the video and WX-78 because he's badly designed. If I had to pick one I'd pick WX because I main him, but if I wasn't biased it would probably be Walter, if you're arguably worse than Wes you definitely need a buff
ok knowing that Keli collared with terraria in DST, i kind of wish her skill tree would give her green cursed flames or purple shadow flames debuffs ones that do more damage per "hit" or "hit" more times per second also i'm glad you mentioned the mann melter from TF2 here, in that game it doesn't work pretty well because Pyro can't give his own teammates afterburn nor can he take afterburn away from the enemy team to gain a crit from a weakened enemy. but on Willow it will work wonders because of how easy will it be to make and take flames away. so IMO if we do go that route willow will need a weapon that synergize with such ability, maybe a staff that will do different attacks depending on the number of flames or the percentage of durability the staff has (the higher the stronger in both cases) that willow will be able to charge with those extinguished flames. maybe it can even work as super charging a fire staff or fire pen
One thing about Willow personality - she is not about fighting fire. She is the one who spreads it. The amount of fire surrounding you could provide buffs, for example.
What I would do: Make enemies near willow not to burn their loot, as well as giving the option to set bernie on fire for more dps. Make willow able to make an explosion that doesnt affect other players or structures. Make fire to stack the effects and make more damage, as well as burn faster. I think shes oine of the hardest characters to balance out
Omg yes she does I love that character and the only thing going for her is only the bear and even then it dies very fast and her lighter can’t be used by others
I used to love playing Willow before I realized how boring she was. The character rework didn't do her justice (aside from the cool lore) so I really hope she'll get a skill tree soon
I think that Willow will be fixed after getting her skill tree , probably 2/3 of it will be related to fire instead of Bernie and I have a hunch that an ability she might gain will not be burning manmade structures nor loot drops when killed on fire
first of all, fire used by her powers would burn red (which would deal WAY more damage, maybe 12 or 15 per tick instead of 3), and not burn the environment some ideas i have: - some sort of flame barrier that blocks 1 incoming attack every 15s, and set the enemy burning in red fire (works only when above 35°) - when insane, her hair or her eyes starts burning, indicating that she is 'enraged' because of the trauma of the orphanage (or smth like that), making her set red fire to enemies when attacking them) - her lighter should be able to absorb fires on screen to recharge durability - the lighter, when full, could be thrown like a water balloon dealing something like a 100 explosion dmg , and setting mobs around it on fire (red fire ofc) obviously these are just raw ideas, but could be cool
They could pair this with adding stronger and weaker flames, maybe just have weak yellow flames, powerful red flames, and anything in between And then Willow's powers may be the easiest way to get those strong flames
Think Willow should have "Magic fire". A different color of fire that can not burn things, but can light creatures on fire. Magic fire could have a color shift so there is a noticible difference but it doesnt stand out like a sore thumb.
I think a burst like cannon damage would work as well like having her absorb fire and just doing it as like an explosion damage like well gunpowder but not to the same extremes of being able to stack hundreds.
