I think these women KNOW this, but because they CANNOT admit that MOST Black women have made such a critical error in judgement, they NEED to believe that their degree, or their income, or their whatever, will somehow make up for them being a single mother. 40 years ago, I was STUPID enough to marry a single mother. And ANYTHING I did which involved disciplining her kids eventually got back to those kids' father --- which is the sort of thing which can lead to VIOLENT altercations --- because we men are BIOLOGICALLY hardwired to PROTECT our kids from ANY man who does not have the same last name as us. It is what it is. I learned rather quickly to just leave ALL discipline of HER kids to HER -- which, of course, leads to a stepfather NEVER being the HEAD of his own household. Even worse, after our INEVITABLE divorce, my relationship with her kids ABRUPTLY ENDED, even though I had spent a few years keeping a roof over their heads, and food in their bellies, and clothes on their back, and paying for their medical bills. And I COULD NOT object to this GROSS UNFAIRNESS TO ME, because they HAD a father, and I was not him. Fortunately, none of my stepkids were teenage boys. Because that is a WHOLE OTHER set of problems that you do NOT want to have to deal with. Which is not to say that there are not OTHER problems unique to teenage stepdaughters ... Kevin is right. Stepkids are a BIG negative for ANY man to overcome. And I would NEVER marry a single mother EVER again.

About the single parent point, and lowering value.... I was a single dad for 9 years before I got married. Respectfully, no one had to tell me that my value was lowered in some ways. Women initially thought that me being a single dad was amazing but anytime we hung out more, always having my daughter was very inconvenient. Me being humble enough to understand this helps me appreciate my now wife. Because I understood, and still understand that she’s caring for a whole human that she didn’t produce. She didn’t have to sacrifice for my past decisions but she did/does; and I’m grateful. If single parents aren’t humble, you won’t even appreciate your spouse if you do find one. Be humble, your child is dope but your child doesn’t HAVE to be their responsibility. Let’s get rid of entitlement folks and appreciate people who sacrifice for us.

Biggest thing I learned from watching this is how people try to manipulate arguments. Instead of answering the questions they redirect the subject and answer the new question. To be able to recognize what's happening, slow it down and respond instead of react is a powerful skill.

I am 49 years old now, and back when I was in my pre-teens, it was not accepted for a pre-teen or a teenager to get pregnant out of wedlock. What happened in my community was that if a girl was a "Fast ass" girl and went and got her ass pregnant, she mysteriously disappeared from the seen. When we inquired as to where she went, it was always, "She's down south with family down there". It was a "Bad look" on parents to have a daughter get pregnant our of wedlock. Nowadays, it has become an initial goal of these women in order to prove their worth. WTF? That same trend has spread like wildfire too, because it seems to be the case with 60 percent of our sisters, and it's destroying our communities straight "off the rip"! As for the boy who got her pregnant (so that ya'll don't think I'm removing all blame for their asses), their asses either had a "Shotgun wedding" or their asses disappeared one way or the other. Our community didn't play (especially the men), and that's why "The system" targeted that "Order" that our elders ensured we had in our own communities and waged war to disrupt it and take those men out off the scene.
I am your age as well, but Haitian. I remember once upon time growing up in the late 70s/early 80s, Haitian and Dominican girls (Caribbean girls in general actually) were the most feminine and traditional, soft-spoken and submissive and out-of-wedlock pregnancies was unheard of. Well by the 90s all of that was destroyed. I don't even recognize my kind anymore, literally. I used to blame this destruction on Black American culture, but not anymore. This was by design.
