Who is he ?? FIRST TIME REACTION to Phantom of the Opera by Nightwish 

Marko has classical singing too and has 10/11 years on Tarja. He knows exactly what he's doing on stage. I don't think you can ever go back to anyone else's version after seeing them. I add Tarja is singing through a head cold and throat infection this night. October 21, 2005. Hartwell arena. 11500 in attendance. Helsinki Finland. Last night of the ONCE upon a tour in support of their 5th Album, ONCE. Now the concert called End of An Era as this was her last night with the band. They knew. She didn't. To say the seperation was handled badly is the short form of the novella of hurt feelings, animosity, accusations, public spectacle etc. Both sides have public statements. The letter dismissing her made public. Ugly with a capital UG. Now Marko and Tarja mended their friendships. They have sung together since. Marko joined in 2001. Tarja is a founding member of the quartet from 1996. They both studied music in school. Both attended musical acedemies. Tarja.after Nightwish even went back to finish her masters degree. The lady on her RAW tour making up lost dates from lockdown. Finishing 3 more videos for her group project Outlanders. Where she teams up with world class musicians to make beautiful stripped down music. The videos filmed in the carribean nation of Antigua and now finishing her newest dark Christmas album in time for a December tour. Tarja works so hard and does so much. Driven. And take to heart she starts the day with a swim before breakfast. Then it's to work. She plays on stage. I don't just mean singing and keyboards. She puts her heart into the music. She is performing in every sense of the word. The warm chest voice. That head voice. She tops out her 3.5 octave range with a D5. She takes care of herself and her voice. 15 years a solo star and still reaching new heights. One more fact, Tarja was succeeded by Annette Olzen in 2006. Who was fired in 2010 when she had to quit the tour as she went into Labour. Floor brought in as an emergency front woman. 2 years later offered membership in NW been there since. Now the fact is Tarja and Floor were friends then and are still to this day. She refuses to sing the songs aimed at Tarja. Those who know Tarja will tell you how great a human she is. Marko left last January marking 10 years since replacing 1st bassist Sammi. Falling in love with Tarja Sussana Solie Turunen-Cabuli perfectly natural. Floor loves her too. An inspiration to each other starting out.

Yes, Marco is an amazing singer. He won the Masked Singer Finland in 2020. Check Nightwish's cover(tribute) to Pink Floyd's Gigh Hope's. There you see Marco do a solo song, and band killing it.

I don't think Tarja was ever an opera singer. She went straight into Nightwish as her first career step and does not sing professionally in a grand opera style but more like an operetta/musical production style. I never heard of her performing in an opera.

@@TheRealRedAce It wasn't the first step in her career, from her point of view. In the first few years she says in interviews that she wants to go to the opera. Nightwish is only temporary until the actual career starts. That's why she didn't bother with the demos, but only shows up for the recordings in the studio. That's why she gets less money than the other band members.

@@Mischnikvideos But...she never went into opera. Even after leaving NW she stayed in rock. NW was her first professional music job after leaving the Sibelius Academy where she studied along with Tuomas, so it WAS the first step in her career.

@@Mischnikvideos She chose the career, but there may have been prejudice - Marco of NW originally wanted to be a classical tenor, but was refused academy training because he had already sung in a rock band, so such prejudices do exist. Its true that ALL SM bands and singers sing "weird stuff" for a rock singer - it kind of defines the genre. Marco and Tarja sang Ave Maria together on stage, Tarja has sung classically on special occasions, Floor Jansen has sung operatic arias and other genres (Beste Zangers) etc. I've even done them all myself, if not on such a fame level!

Yeah because the original book where the musical was based has him be creepy.

That's the only thing I dislike about the musical, they made Phantom some kind of romantic, misunderstood character, when in the book he was a villain

Andrew Lloyd Webber, the writer, said that this is his favorite cover of the song he had heard.

No need for the "theatre", really. It's a musical. That's the common way of referring to this type of music. (And holy cow what a run Lloyd Webber has had... Just how many smash hit masterpieces has he composed? He's Mr Musical.)
