Wow, two videos in one year? I'm on a roll! So let's talk about the Boba Fett of the RE universe. Additional Cutscenes recorded by: Mr.AlbertWesker08, undeadzilla, ivyblade80. Additional Artwork by: Raul Rivera Arroyo, DemonLeon3D
the fact nighthawk even came back from hunk just shows his leadership and respect his team must have had for him also i wouldn't be shocked if he was working for blue unbrella
I said this last time someone mentioned the helicopter coming back. Hunk is basically a living legend among his peers as basically the unkillable. Even if you aren't superstitious I can't imagine the visceral damage to your reputation and ability to function with another squadron if everyone knows you as the guy that got even the reaper killed on a mission
@@Chadius_Thundercockkeep the mystery and identity secret, but make the character seen more in games or yk important to the plot in some meaningful way.
@@Chadius_Thundercockhe can easily be the main character without ruining his mystery. As long as the game's story revolves around the game's objective and doesn't try to make some original ideas for Hunk.
@@CaseyRedgravewhich they do literally all the time for MC's bro they would try and add a back story or some shit. We don't need that, keep him as the bad ass mysterious soldier.
I like to think that Hunk just had an excellent set of skills that edged out his teammates....and after several missions where he was the only one to survive, the general thought among the Umbrella Board was "Okay, surround him with meat shields so that he can survive just long enough to escape. We save money on all the other mercenaries, we pay him well enough to do this suicidal job, and we can trust him to succeed 99 out of 100 times." And then they made a sentient block of Tofu to be even more cost effective.
I really feel bad for Ghost; the Forgotten Soldier. Resident evil 2 was literally his first mission, he messed it up and shot Birkin, then his squad gets killed, he escapes with the G virus sample, only to get shot and killed by Ada on his way out.
@@tavish4699 the scenario this is from didn't happen. It was from a dlc for RE2 that was basically a bunch of "what ifs," like kendo escaping and Kathy (the girl on the table in Irons' office) surviving. Ghost, in the actual game, probably died in this tape 9:18
@@Datreallyhurtedmetho why do you think it was only 4 ? Not saying it wasnt i dont know If incase you say it cause in the body cam footage you can only See 4 of them it might be because the Rest is covering the entrance to burkins roon
@@tavish4699 In the original re 2 the cutscenes that showed how the outbreak started showed a total of 4 USS operatives, 2 in the sewers, and 2 (including HUNK) in the labs. After the latter 2 retrieve the samples (and shoot Birkin in the process) they headed to the sewers to regroup with the other 2. Then came a g-virus fueled Birkin for round two, with HUNK and the other operative from the lab (I don’t know if he was named in the original) are taken down first, and then the other 2 are taken down after they run into Birkin while trying to reach their teammates. However this is in the original game’s cutscene and the events were already retconned in the remake as we see all 4 together when they confront Birkin. And while we aren’t shown proof, it is possible that there were more USS operative assigned to the mission. (The helicopter pilot Nighthawk doesn’t count as he wasn’t in the sewers or the labs in both the original and remake.)
Hunk being the man who made the gear that protects people from the bites and attacks from the Infected and BOW might lean to him having some guilt over his survival and those times when his team didn't know what they may fight against.
No, he’s too emotionless for any kind of guilt…more likely an employer tasked him with the creation of new equipment or he got bored and the equipment was the result
@@cowgod1945 wouldnt say he is emotionless but instead has been a merc for so long he knows business comes before emotion and to keep em in check,as stated and shown in the vid he cares about the well being of his squadmates and when push comes to shove he would sacrifice himself for them like when he told nighthawk to just leave him.
Hunk is NOT an acronym. The Japanese developers who made the character misspelled HANK and called him HUNK. The acronym Human Unit Never Killed came from a non-canon fan film that also has him as an Asian man. Hunk is a white man as seen on one of the Epilogues in the Original Resident Evil 3. Just wanted to clear that up. ✌️
Hmm... Red lenses, highly proficient in martial arts and all forms of firearms, rarely speaks, unfettered drive to complete his objectives, survives impossible odds against bio-engineered monstrosities... coincidence perhaps? Maybe? Possibly?
Yeah the HUNK acronym shit sounded like a fan made up thing to me. I never heard that shit till this video and I'm like. The fuck is that bullshit? 😂 Sounds cool but Hunk just being a badass is better. I'm hoping for a Hunk game at some point that has a good story to compliment his mysterious backstory.
Not Brad, though... he came in clutch at the end of RE1, but they may as well have walked back at the point in time he picks them up, and they could just gun down the dogs. (There can't be more than 20 within 4 miles of the mansion)
Hunk was the Boba Fett of the Resident Evil games. I know from concept art ideas that Capcom isn't done with him. I hope he pops back up like Chris did at end of res evil 7( even though his face model looked odd compared to every other version of him).
@@BamsyOfficially I know "face reveals" of Hunk has happened but I think it would be better to keep him a faceless and nameless badass, time and time and time again we have seen badass characters ruined because their true character reveals were handled poorly or given the basic ass " Dead family/wife/child/other" trope to justify their coldness and efficiency
I kinda like to think that hunk is helping ada in res 6 as after comparing voice lines between res 2 hunk and res 6 agent. I did find they had very similar injury voice sounds.
I hope that Hunk returns without a mask, but that he never identifies himself as Hunk. Just leaving extremely vague clues that suggest there is a chance that he could in fact be the legendary mercenary.
Hunk is the reason why I love gas masks and MP5s despite both being kinda sucky in the real world as someone who's had military training, gas masks is something you never really wanna wear unless you really have to and MP5 just isn't really cut for military use.
Mp5 is never meant for military use, even tho it's been used on some occasions it's more meant on urban and close quarters. It's more of an civilian and operator choice weaponry. Which is exactly what Hunk is, he's an operator, the mp5 and tmp mostly his personal favorites due to the fact that alot of the combat operations of is involved in close quarters.
@@matthewjones39 how is it fanfiction? Do you see the military use the mp5 more often than civilians and police officers? Hunk in all the games uses Mp5 and TMP You can't disprove it when its in the game. Also can't disprove it when swat teams and police officers have mp5s and so does civilians within limitations of the gun law and fire arms restrictions. So go ahead show me an explanation
Hunk's fully gear rig and gas mask actually makes some sense to me. If he utilizes flashbangs to eliminate the infected, the gas mask acts as a flash shield.
HUNK is easily the most charismatic of whole RE male cast. And as much as I love him, I don't want to see him to often. He works best as the guy who appears suddenly, does something important in the background of main events, and disappears. The less we known about him, the better he works as a character.
Depends on how its done if he's shown more actually. Just has to be a "point" behind it. Considering the remake botched up Nemi I don't trust Capcom to pull it off. Original was MUCH better. And if Capcom didn't do it with Hunk then they know they can't pull it off. So having him as a side character here makes sense. "We already couldn't do nemi as well as before, so let's not overdo it with Hunk".
I love H.U.N.K., I'd like it if at one point he just became a character that appeared in an installment, did something important/crazy and then left. Like imagine if in RE8, he was the one to kill Fake Mia and then just leave without any explanation until Chris fills Ethan in.
I like to think that HUNK is always aware of how mortal he is, and that is the secret of his OP'ness, because he doesn't fall for his own legend he is always alert and ready
I think it would’ve been a pretty cool detail if instead of being bitten when caught by a infected, he instead retaliated, to show off prowess and such, but still, what a game!
But still the way in the game how it represented Hunk's tenacity in retaliation Every single time he gets grabbed, to him it's every single window of opportunity to attack, even at death's door, he will make them hurt Like the sewer BOW, seemingly grabbed which in most other RE games, if you resist you simply managed to get loose, but here, he takes it as a prime opportunity to shove a nade into its mouth and blew it up Grabbed by Mr X. Just dropped a nade down in what would considered suicidal In those aspects, for a guy who nvr shown his face and isn't connected in post Umbrella related incidents, he was already standing out on equal terms if not more than the known chars of RE
Since you talked about USS too you could have talked about Goblin 6, a USS member only heard by radio in Umbrella Chronicles (and Operation Raccoon City). According to ORC (so non-canon) she was providing recon to Alpha & Delta Team in view for their extraction. But in Umbrella Chroncles she was at some point severely wounded and lost the usage of her legs, during the UC version of the 4th survivor, she cried over her radio for help and Hunk dismissed her pleas (unwilling or unable to help, not sure which one… maybe both) by saying “This is War. Survival is your responsibility”. Also another quote showing that despite being part of the mission he wasn’t happy to lose his teammates “The survival rate was 4% and valuable human resources were lost, but that is war.”
Considering he apparently works on producing items for Mercs to survive the infected, I feel like he has some guilt because while he is intent on doing the job to completion regardless who died, he would also have some guilt for surviving.
@@tonypeppermint5329 you talk about the CQBZ right ??? I saw someplace and others that he developed CQBZ and helped developing nearly all equipment we have in Umbrella Corps but no sources were cited even on the wiki. (I may have miss something idk) But if that’s true that may be an interesting fact that his cold emotionless demeanor may also hide survivor guilt.
16:50 This image takes on a new feeling when you realize that HUNK's failure to lead the mission and secure ALL vials of the virus caused the death of thousands in Racoon City.
You forgot to mention a report about him in the island where he was trained It mentions a very specific detail about him that might give an idea of what he really is like
@@bandarsalh1338 IIRC, the name was "Bella". And IIRC, the documents/reports from which all of these are stated are part of a marketing for ORC, so it's kina non-canon, but nevertheless, still adds some lore to his character.
My theory: HUNK isn't that young anymore when he signed up for the Rockford Training Program. He got into Rockford in 96, while the Raccoon Incident happened in 98. The Epilogue in Resident Evil 3 shows us his hair (albeit a bit blurry) starting to whiten up. Also, in Resident Evil Outbreak, there is an option to show HUNK without gasmask. He look more like Nikolai. Taking from that, lets say Nikolai's age is the same as HUNK, that mean HUNK would be 35 y.o. by the time Racoon City happen. When he got into Rockford he would be 33. His father could have been a Veteran of Vietnam War, could also be a Spec Ops in said war. Got back, trained Little Hunk. When Hunk all grow up, Hunk Enlisted. 15 Years of military experience, not to mention he could also be a Spec Ops, is all the good reason Hunk seems so "Stubborn to die". Could Also be a CIA Operatives, because by the time he's 18, proper age to Enlist, Cold War was still at its late stage. The CIA Operative made a lot more sense to me because of the "Mysterious" background, he basically pop out of thin air back in 96. Went in and become the best. For what? By the time of RE 4, I believe he is already chilling somewhere, retiring with the fat check umbrella gave him when he brought back the G Virus sample. Dropping his spy business aside... Or he could be in Spain... Spying on other weird Corporation like Umbrella... We can never know.
When I fist started getting into the video I instantly assumed that this guy was a well known resident evil lore channel with over 100 k subscribers. This channel should definitely be a well known resident evil lore channel with over 100k subscribers.
I’ve been following this series and its events and deeper lore for as long as I’ve been playing games, but I had never sat down and worked out an overall history of Umbrella like this. Really well presented, and thank you for helping me finally actually understand even just one period of this series’ timeline
I like how in the original RE 2 game they did not seem to care about bringing Birkins in alive, HUNK literally says "stop, you might hit the sample" after they shoot Birkins
I feel like you could inject Hunk into the entire series as an observer and he could be in every game as cleanup detail for some shadow op like Ada... Imagine if they made an anniversary game for the entire franchise, but from Hunk's perspective, like he's always been there, following the heroes by coincidence from the veey beginning?
A randomly recommended video from a creator I've never watched about a character I don't know from a franchise I don't play? Somehow I know it's going to be high quality.
If he’s the new head of Blue Umbrella, that’d check out. Running his own PMC designed to combat BOWs, using his team’s experience and expertise to gain a profit. Wonder how Chris felt about all of it? What if HE was the reason he agreed to it?
This video was great! I think one point that can be made, though, was the scene in the RE2 remake with the helmet cam footage. This scene demonstrates HUNK's primary focus on his mission objective over his squadmates as he knows that team deaths are acceptable to the company, failure is not. Martinez did not panic there, he is doing what every soldier/officer is trained to do. When someone makes a fast movement at you, you fire first before they even have a chance, and in this case, it was 100% justified as Dr.Birkin had a gun.
I'm still waiting for the day where Hunk stars in his own full on RE game where he's the main character. There's just so much intrigue and mystery and badassness to his character I'm sure fans would jump at the chance to play a game that's centered around him.
I'd chalk that up to the fact that he's still a professional at the end of the day and thus expects his teammates to be as well, he shouldn't have to hold their hand and he expects to be treated that way in turn, that doesn't mean he doesn't care when they die, he just believes everyone should be pulling their weight
two things come to mind: SABC and ABC Self Aid/Buddy care tells you what to do already, Self aid first. Selflessness has place on battlefield but selflessness first without regard to your own well being first will get you and your buddy killed. ABC is the acronym we were thought in vehicle operations. Asset is first (YOU are the asset) Buddy comes second and Civvies comes last, the first two dying will get everyone killed (specially if you die first, now they are scrambling to get everyone to safety while finding a new driver)
Can just mean he’s very pragmatic. After all, he tells Nighthawk to leave him at the station even though he knows that would mean he’d have nowhere to go and would seal his fate. If he was just all about himself he would have demanded him to stay.
Hope we get more HUNK scenes in the upcoming RE remakes. Something like Wesker trying to kill him to tie up loose ends but failing, because HUNK is so good that he manages to escape.
Tldw Hunk is the goat He's a monster of a man He's got no fear No hesitation And no weakness He's a behemoth of a soldier He's a one man army He's a tank A demolisher A death machine He is the name people run and hide from Hes a leader like no other Putting every member at top priority, even fighting his own leaders and willingly giving his life for them if things get dicey And he is your friend :) We should be like hunk Strong, resilient, caring and compassionate
Resident evil has so much lore that have yet to tap in 🥶, future is bright with the games and movies (animated of course). Would love to see a hunk and ada movie or game some time in the future
dont know about ada , as ada already has her own story mode in multiple games. but hunk only has 10 mins of gameplay in re2 , i think they are making a game for hunk
08:26 - I'm not sure if this has already been said, but I wonder if it's possible that HUNK didn't take the blame specifically out of loyalty to his team. What if it was something like a desire to protect his/the unit's reputation? I know that it's a stretch, but I do like thinking about how it characterizes HUNK either way. (EDIT - 14:14 - I love these considerations. Great video!)
Hunk is the nickname of one Hunkie Hunkerson a guy from Los Angeles, North Dakota. He was the son of Billionaire Hunker Hunkalota Hunkerson who owned the popular chain of restaurants known as GET HUNKED, (great Onion Rings) as well as being the Porn King of the entire Western Hemisphere. After college, where he played Football. At his Alma Mater they played an 10:1 Defense (10 down lineman, Hunk handling LB, CB and S duties) Their team was undefeated the entire time Hunkie was there. This was about the time of 9/11 so Hunkie joined the military. First soldier to be a member of every section of JSOC (Navy Seal, Delta Force, etc). They put him on all the most deadly missions and he would always complete them. They stopped sending a team with him because he would always sacrifice them to complete the mission. One such mission had him take his own team member and use him as a human shield as he engaged the enemy. Hunkie would then be recruited by Umbrella where he became something of a legend among the female employees. Hunkie would then partner up with Agent Tofu who gave him the moniker Hunk. They didn't trust each other at first but when Tofu used Hunk as a human shield on a mission, they are now the best of friends. The rest is as they say History.....
Or something completely unique to the UMBRELLA CORP. It is more likely that he is a human bio weapon and his placement in that group was his field test that he aced with flying colors. Even Wesker couldn't pull of what this man has done prior to his own infection.
I don't know before re1 wesker was able to BY HIMSELF to defeat all the zombies, Cerberus dogs, hunters, proto tyrant and ivan tyrant virtually unblemished during the end of re0 events.
I'm not clued in on the lore as other people are but blonde hair is recessive. Your parent could have blonde hair but you could wind up with brown or black hair since those aren't recessive. Unless Weaker went out of his way to make his hair colour dominant?
@@IveBeenWithBruma The Wesker Project is like Halo Spartan 2 Project. Where children is enhance with chemical to make them stronger and faster and Wesker himself is included in one of those children and everyone of them have their name renamed their surname into Wesker. It have nothing to do with Wesker having kid.
And i just thought Hunk was a random guy that appear in the mercenaries mode of Resident Evil 4. I didn't know he had this history, actually make him a really interesting and even lethal character
This is well put together even if it ruins my own kinda sh*tty headcannon😂 10:35 I liked to imagine the og hunk actually died in the sewers, and billy(from zero) was hiding in the racoon sewers, and using his military and bioweapon experience adopts hunks identity to get a free ride out of raccoon city. As know one knew the real hunk he stayed in that role to escape authorities and get a reliable paycheque. If he turns "good" by fighting bioweapons himself through a company that could br evidence that it is Billy working for good
