The Mythology of Lilith - first wife of Adam and Queen of the Demons - is truly one of the most ancient and impressive legends in demonological history. Originating in ancient Sumerian legend, haunting the Levant for millenia, and proving to be one of the most enduring entities in the Abrahamic religions, Lilith remains one of the most alluring and frightening legendary beings. In this first episode, we explore the earliest origins of Lilith in ancient Sumeria, her mythological development in Ancient Israel, the Babylonian Talmud, Incantation Bowls and Rabbinical Legends where she infamously becomes the defiant first wife of Adam.

What's fun is that over the past 20ish years enough genetic material has been gathered (2,000+ samples) of Sabe' . Two things stand out . 1 . Same genetic " Mother" 2 . Sabe' is Caucasian ( So there was 2 Adam's ? 1 Eve ? Possibly . ) But I'm also crazy ! So I got that going for me 😂😂😂😂😂

Definitely one of the most interesting mythological figures with such a fascinating history. And she has obviously been continually fascinating people from her ancient Sumerian origins through millenia and still does today. And despite Lilith being barely (or not at all, depending on opinion) mentioned in the Hebrew Bible she persevered all this time and has even cemented herself a place in modern pop culture - for example, the first time I ever heard of Lilith was from _Vampire: The Masquerade_ (the pen & paper roleplaying game) where Lilith plays an important role in in-universe history/mythology.

Kabbalistic traditions tell us that Adam had two wives: Lilith and Nahemah. It is stated that Lilith is the mother of abortion, homosexuality, mother of sexual degeneration, and Nahemah is the mother of adultery, fornication, etc. Lilith and Nahemah are the two aspects of infrasexuality. These two women cor- respond to two submerged spheres within the very interior of the Earth, the infradimensional and the mineral. Karmic residue from time long ago our ancestors (progenitor of the human race) reproduced asexually, hermaphrodites The vampire is Lilith, it fears the cross because the cross represent the joining of the masculine and feminine force, the penetrating vertical beam i.e. obelisk and the receptive horizonal beam (heaven and earth). They fear the sun=solar=soul=cosmic Christ that is sacrificed on the cross as the soul decents from heaven to enter the child created during the union of man and women. The stake representing the obelisk/masculine, the heart representing the feminine ect ect

In Arabic folklore and Qur'anic legend, the djinn are said to love desolate ruins, abandoned wells and other lonely places, preferably places where humans once lived and then forsook. Owls also are so strongly associated with ruins and the like that they're a poetic and artistic trope, almost a cliche, that'd common to this day.

He may or may not respond, for a myriad of possible reasons. I will try to explain it the way I understand it. Alternative understandings exist. Shiva, the Destroyer of the World, lives in the Himalayas. His consort is Parvati. [him means cold, alay means abode, himalaya means the abode of cold, wherefrom Himalaya, the proper noun for the mountains, and mountain means parvat, where from Parvati, the proper noun for Shiva’s consort] Now, Parvati is one individual goddess, and she represents every woman. In her normal calm condition, she is Parvati. However, she can play two violent roles, as Durga and Kali. As Durga, she fights against evil to protect the innocents. As Kali, she fights against the innocent. In her role as Kali, she is depicted as scantily clad, carrying out atrocities on her victims. She goes out of control, and goes on a rampage. Shiva, then lays on her path, causing her to accidentally step on Shiva. Seeing that she stepped on her husband, she is embarrassed, and sticks her tongue out. Etymologically, Kali symbolizes Kali Yuga. Kaal means time. It can also mean bad times. The negative behaviour of Kali may be interpreted as a time will come, when women is society will go out of control, and go on a destructive rampage, when men might have to step in to bring things under control.

Dr. Sledge, thanks for this video. I was under the impression that a Midrash was created to fill in gaps in the text of the scripture. In this case Genesis 2:23 has Adam finding the woman created from his rib saying "Now, this time, this is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh". This implies there was another time where a female was created not from his ribs but from the dust of the earth as he was. I seem to remember reading this in the multi-volume "Legends of the Jews". Would appreciate your input on this matter unless it will be discussed in the next episode, which I am looking forward to.

Interesting. I found that in ancient Greece, the word daimon ment a spirit or a divine power. Daimon may came come from the Greek verb dalesthi ( to divide or distribute ). . @@dustencross357 Except Lilith doesn't demand obedience. All she does in the era where she was on the bowls was interfere with with having kids, and that if the bowls were to break, the wife wouldn't be fertile anymo... I think I answered my own question. I suspect that when wives would break the bowl when they didn't want to have kids anymore. So Lilith wasn't a villain so much as someone who was good or bad depending on the period of your life. Now, of course, *husbands* of the era would paint her as bad, since so many wanted as many kids as possible, but seriously, after so many kids, most women would just want to stop. And clever use of a clay bowl to do it. While the guys are away (hunting, chopping wood, going out to buy stuff, etc.), smash the bowl, other women hear it, get the message loud and clear to help, inform the local healer who can bring preventatives, the bowl's remains are put back under the house (since the husband probably isn't going to check there every day), and when she stops having kids, she can insist he check the bowl, they find it broken, and then she can blame Lilith while excersizing bodily autonomy. @@jae3276 Nah… Maybe. Either way, maybe I just have the ability to see things from many different points of view. How terrible must it be to have been made by God, Alongside Adam, as an EQUAL, made NOT of his rib but of the SAME CLAY, just to be shunned because even though you were Supposed to be EQUAL, you refused to SUBMIT to Adam. Then, after you flee the garden, 3 Angels are sent to find you..and they Do find you, alone by the Red Sea. They strike a deal with you sent by your oh so merciful Father: 1) Return to The Garden and Submit to Adam (even though you Are technically equal aka: made of the same clay) 2) Do NOT Return to the Garden and live the rest of your immortal life as a Demon, and have 100 of your children murdered every day. Those were her choices. She still chose independence. I probably would have too, if I had just realized the cruelty that my Father was capable of, and how conditional His love was, and how Favored Adam clearly was. This is why when God created Eve, he used one if Adams ribs instead of the same clay, so that she would have to be subservient to him. Lilith isn’t mentioned in the KJ Bible by name. She’s basically erased from history. But if you want to learn more about her real story in the Bible, look to Jewish history.

As a Catholic in recovery (like an alcoholic, one is never fully cured once the damage has been done), so I don't consider myself religious, but have always been fascinated how the legends and lore of all religions came into being. My appreciation here, is that you never rely on just one source religion, but many in attempt to give more complete picture. Lilith has always captured my imagination, probably because so much of her story is a mystery. She seems to be almost a footnote anywhere she's referenced and quickly glossed over in any sort of story. Thank you for this wonderful and comprehensive look into her origins and beyond. You appear to be a practicing Jew and I was wondering how you reconcile your faith with the mythology that is found in all religions? Love your video on Mary Magdalene and The Gnostic Gospels especially in how they relate to early Christianity. I left the Christian faith as soon as I was old enough to see through the ridiculous claims and the many murderous persecutions The Church carried out against Pagans and Jews and The Witch Hunts particularly in Scotland and King James VI of Scotland 1st of England and The KJV Bible…now I spend every opportunity to travel in Scotland and Ireland. Lived in Morocco for 4 years…learned a great deal about Islam and it’s folklore. I’ve traveled to Israel a few times, very drawn to Judaism and Jerusalem! A lot of great information in your video! In the beginning of Genesis, God is both attributed with male and female traits, much like a brooding mother hen whose world is an egg about to be hatched. This feminine image of "spirit/God" is often symbolized as birds, wind, breath of life and birth (metamorphosis). Female deities were often demonized and blamed for sin. Though, statistically, females have less of a propensity for "sin". Females are less likely to sin against children and to commit mass murder with firearms. It seems like a case of men superimposing their own bad behavior on women. The image of God's goodness is more likely a female characteristic of nurture and empathy. Males perhaps in many cases belong on the bottom... 😄

Interestingly, in my country, we have a slightly similar female creature folklore, but none of these "aswangs" were popular enough to be named. The devourer of infants and young children, they are always portrayed with long hair, and having a familiar. The aswang cannot die until she has a successor. On the moment of death, a chick will pop out of her mouth and enter the mouth of the successor, making this person the new aswang.

14:40 talks about "girra",a type of sharp or stinging pain...that its the Aramaic word for "arrow". Check this out! an ancient Sumerian deity-a god of fire from early dynastic III Sumer (3rd mil) was named Gibil.His name in Akkadian was *Girra!!* Perhaps he shot arrows of fire :) I love these subjects! Ie Shamash, before he was a candle was a god of fire. Before that, he (like many pre-agrarian deities)had their start as goddesses. Shamash was actually known as a goddess- of fire and of the sun. She was known by the name Shams,and not just in the 3rd mil Arabian peninsula,either! She was worshipped by many groups of people in and around Mesopotamia& West Asia. I love this channel, because I know that others are interested in some of these connections as well!🌞 I *loved* your video on Lilith/Lilitu. Thank you! ❤

A highly informative presentation. Lilith is a celestial image with many aliases in mythology the foundation of religion and esoteric ideas and practices. Her association with lions, hyaenas (emphasis on her dog-like appearance and “spotiness” which also gave rise to the the leopardess and the spotiness also gave rise to the net and veil ideas), hair and owls links her to a specific multi-layered celestial image at the south eastern region of the night sky as viewed from the Southern Hemisphere. This image because of its association with multiple other images was interpreted in various way, as a female, male or bisexual. Other interpretations of the same image is that that of the “Jumping One” the frog hence you have the story of the frog Prince being kissed by a girl. In Germany you have a statue of a prince with a frog on his head. In this conception we have Jumping John kicking in his mother’s womb in the New Testament. Now this celestial image becomes the “head” of a celestial image commonly known as the Old Man of the Sea or the White Old Man who also have many aliases. The owl association with Lilith is simply to express the ideas of night, bird nature and eyes. She becomes the eyes of the White Old Man. To express this association between Lilith and the White Old Man, the Old Man also assumes a bisexual nature or at times is represented as a god with his consort. The “head” is also a multi-layered images not only does it represent the Old Man (the Jade Emperor in China) but when viewed from different perspectives it display the images of two canine-like images, one which became the small dog (a bitch) and a large dog (the image for Anubis). The head “rotates” falling-off at the south western region. It then transforms into a howling dog image commonly associated with the wolf. In this association of the falling head Lilith becomes the murder. The head is also the head of John on a silver platter demanded from the sensual Dancing Salome. But this head idea is also the skull necklace won by the sexual deviant Kali. The hair idea associate Lilith with Mary Magdalene wiping Jesus’ feet with expensive oils with her hair. Lilith becomes Lot’s wife who for disobedience is turned into a pillar of salt. There are many more disguises of this celestial image in myth, religion…

Is there a Zodiac or other constellation corollary with these “celestial images”? I’m wondering, because it’s clear to me that the majority of the Semitic and Mediterranean religious iconography is associated with the heavenly houses. Thanks 🙏 Good summary for the inquisitive mind.
@rachmondhoward2125
@rachmondhoward2125 Год назад
@@Ricca_Day Hi Ricca. Thank you for your interest. The night-sky celestial images are far to complex. Some are multiple layered images that “shifts” as the night progress, with seasonal changes and over precession, interacting with other images and changing form. This constituted the cosmic drama and our forbearers made associations of images and their changes in one part of the sky with images and changes in other parts of the night-sky thus creating various narratives which constituted what we now consider as myth, religion and esoteric. My understanding is that these images or forms were gradually simplified and codified as what came to be known as the Zodiac hence the title of the book. I have not gone into the heavenly mansions as these are referred to in Asian cultures or Zodiac houses in western astrology. It is my considered view that mansions or houses as we understand these to be is actually derived from the Sumerian stations and the Egyptian 36 Decans regions but from my observations these mansions/houses are particular regions in the nigh-sky which were “marked” almost like cardinal points in reference to specific images or forms. I have tried to explain the idea of sky-dimensions in my unpublished book, The Pleiades Code. If I have not answered your question, please do indicate.

@@rachmondhoward2125 That’s pretty much my understanding, too. I think about how folks would pass the time long ago, and to me, the constellations are a celestial Map of the stories our ancestors preserved through their oral traditions and through art, all the way back to the cave paintings. We moderns tend to be generally dismissive of mythology, because we are essentially egocentric, thinking of the ancients as archaic in intellectual terms, simply because of our more recent technological advancements, but we are almost completely the same anthropologically. We love. We win or lose. We conquer or are conquered. We use the skyscape of the evening sky to reference our histories.. and anticipate our futures. When I read any ancient text, look at the art and architecture or read a commentary on these, if there’s a way of seeing things from the “heavenly perspective”, that tends to be a indication of the truest intentions of the ones leaving those records. The book of Job is very clear about how important and highly conserved the Zodiac/Mazzaroth Templates have been. And Genesis references that Abraham knew all the stars of heaven, and to me, it sounds like more than just a passing knowledge, particularly since he grew up in Chaldean society before he began his journey westward. Because of these very clear references, I look at biblical and ancient sources from the perspective of the heavens at least in part, because whether our ancestors were here in the west or there in the east, regardless of the Age.. we have all been using this same map since the human mind has had eyes to see and stories to preserve. Get that book published! I’m sure it will be enlightening ✨

Growing up in Brooklyn around Jewish People, we never talked about this. Jewish People saved my life. Where I get my work ethics from. My love goes deep. I never used the term the Jews, the Blacks or the Whites. To me that's disrespectful. We always talked about music, food, sports, exercise, school or business. We're more the same than different. I wish we all knew this information growing up. Our clergy in general have failed us with that 501c3. To control the narrative and the collective. I know Yahweh loves me. That's all they keep saying. Go deeper. Now, I'm just spiritual. I love all people no matter the faith. As long as you L♡VE. There is only but one most high. One creator. It's us who have thousands of religions. I don't argue about that. It's a waste of my precious breath. To me, that is the great divide. Thank you 📚 Peace Be With You ☮ Btw... I've been studying Lilith for 20 years. There is so much and yet so little about her. As mentioned, there are hints at her in the Mesopotamian literature, but so many holes in the stories, it's very confusing as to her true origin. I'm working on my 3rd book on her where I'm trying to dig as deep as I can into her origins, but mostly that is a handful of mentions and myths that may relate to her and may not.

@@davidlafleche1142 no he was supposed to have a different wife before Eve. Lilith (in the scripture) was made the same way as Adam. However, she wasn't into Adam and was independent, so she left on her own accord from Eden. God then made Eve, but out of Adam's rib to signify she's from man (hence the word woman). It was to make a wife for Adam that wouldn't do that again. I'm not a Christian, was raised one though. The Torah mentions her briefly, which is the old testament in the Bible. She's more of a representation of why women can't be Independent or like man in this form, but she also is from an older religion with a lot of fragmented legends. From what I've gathered looking into her, she seems to be a spirit people feared, and that part of her stuck with the Hebrew religion that came up later on, and thus she kind of stayed in the public understanding of a lustful, evil entity. I'm not really aware of her much, but learning about Lilith was kinda interesting. Theologies are fascinating, regardless of who or what they are about. Lastly, as a pagan, I don't want you to think I'm trying to force you into a different form of thinking. I'm going off my personal research of this particular figure. With that being said, you shouldn't try to force others to think differently either. From what I remembered in my upbringing, the one thing that stuck with me is something Jesus said: do unto others as you wish others do unto you. You don't want people to tell you what to believe, so don't do that to others. Regardless of what faith is right or wrong, we're all people. And we should love each other because we're all equal in that way.
