I think you made the right call in waiting a bit before jumping into Boruto. I went back to Naruto and finished off the last arc, then immediately jumped into Boruto. I actually like Boruto more as a character than I did Naruto personally, but the fight scene quality and stakes fell of a cliff, understandably, but it really hurt my viewing experience.

Shino was awesome in part 1, and then became less awesome in part 2. He didn't stand out because he wasn't really allowed to stand out, even though I think his power is quite unique. Shino is one of my favourites. I like his power. I liked him more then than now though.

Shikadai looks a lot like Shikamaru, but Shikamaru at his age was completely different ^^ and I think they have differences... btw in the manga, Shikamaru smokes from time to time, like Asuma did, but not as much :)
