a ubisoft star wars game would GREATLY appreciate the battle system that AC Origins and Odyssey had. Instead of a stealth story oriented game, they could have gone for a semi-war game for a STAR WARS title.

Gotta say, I really like these little kinda thoughts-adjacent videos. The "shorts" feel a little too out of context sometimes, and the formal "thoughts" videos, while not boring per se, can be a bit flat. This has just enough editing to be fun and carry through a point. Excellent!

Praising the setting is the lowest hanging fruit in a Star Wars game. Of course the setting feels good, there is an abundance of Star Wars lore and design to choose from.

There are terrible mechanic and reload choices they made with the game. What bothers me about the story is that all the characters around Kay are objectively more interesting and had better writing than her as the protagonist.

Cohh is being professional. He is saying that this game is not for him. Tries to not commit a career suicide. The current generation of developers and management are too dumb and emotionally driven to understand when someone tells them when something is disappointing because they go with how they feel about the words that comes out of someone's mouth. If you worked even half a year for a corporation you see and understand how companies that adopt that kind of corpo language. They care more about spewing words that sound good rather than having any kind of substance. Writing this reminds me of a certain character in Oregairu. Hachiman meets a group of students to organize something(I forgot what) and the students group say alot of bullshit and drag everything on instead of setting goals and start completing them. That is what an almost perfect analogy of what corpo management is. That is if you have watched Oregairu and remember those episodes. This game has no "character", there is nothing memorable in here. Nothing. Everything is extremely safe and rote. The story isn't engaging because the characters are not engaging. The writing is criminally cookie-cutter. 10yr olds might roll with it but what the about the rest of us? It took about half an hour of watching a stream of Outlaws before I knew exactly what the rest of the game would be like and that I'll never purchase it.

Lol at the wall climb. You know, AC2 did climbing so well. You'd crab things that actually looked crabable, there was actual mechanics aside from auto climb like wall jumping and the ledge jump you could perform and you overall just had a lot more control. It's so weird ubisoft just had to ruin it later down the line.

I won't hate this game. The best I can say is that it's fine. Best to get it on sale or wait till it's free through PS Plus/Game Pass or whatever. And I feel bad to those who shelled out the big bucks for early access and their games were reset, but lends to the "Never Pre-Order" argument.

I usually like Cohh's takes, but the amount of mental gymnastics to not say that the gameplay & the AI sucks is impressive. I have watched Asmon play this and the AI is ridiculous, with him hiding in bushes while numerous enemies are on top of him without detection and shoot numerous times directly at him, with him being protected by the indestructible bushes. 🤦🏻‍♂

Me. It was made for me. And probably a lot of other people who always wished they could explore the Star Wars world. Who wished that they could walk the bustling streets of these dense cities and get in with different gangs and screw over other gangs and smuggle goods and fly around in space, and drive around in a speeder across the Dune sea. I wish that there was a game that let me truly explore the Star Wars world since I saw episode 4 when I was so so little. I always wanted to explore Tatooine and drive my speeder around. This game isn't perfect, it is an Ubisoft game, but they've made improvements to the exploration and the RPG elements, and it really just lets you live in the Star Wars World more than any other game has. So anybody who wants to just live in the Star Wars world as a street rat kid trying to make a name for herself, this game is actually really fun.

It's a game about an outlaw character who can't kill npcs, not even animals. It's an outlaw who can't steal npcs, other vehicles or even mount animals. It's all so so bad. I ended up quitting after about 2 hours (I think it was 4 or 5 hours, but Ubisoft Connect says 2, also weird). I wasn't ever expecting a great game, but not so bad either. It's a total waste of money.

The AI is some of the worst in modern gaming history. Might be a 10 bucker for a laugh.

Just for starters, they call it "Star Wars Outlaws" just to sound edgy and lure in many potential buyers before release. And then one plays the most bland, cheesy, basically goody-two-shoes cat lady ever in a game, probably expecting one to get teary-eyed at the unfairness that she even counts as "outlaw" in an evil system (and cheer when she punshes down armored armies with her bare fist in righteous fury)... This is so creatively, emotionally crippled and pathetic.

The thing is, I am really digging the premise of exploring the Underworld of SW, being a scoundrel, traveling the galaxy. All that flavor and story is great. BUT! For that kind of setting to actually live up to its fullest potential you have to pair it with either a) Uncharted-style narrative, linear action game or b) Mass Effect-style narrative, character and setting-driven RPG with proper RPG systems. That's the only two ways it would work. If you water down the gameplay this much, well... no amount of cool, famos IP flavor will be able to cover for the shallowness of the game itself.

I am about 20 hrs in and I am really enjoying the game. I like the fact that it's so densely packed. The hub cities aren't just a place for you to upgrade stuff, but they offer so many opportunities and rewards. Also I really like the fact that there is always an alternate path to do things stealthily making you feel like a badass. Inwas skeptical at first and after a long time I feel wanting to return back to a ubisoft game which usually feels very repetitive and boring. This one spices things up a little and I am really digging it.

Unfortunately for me Outlaws is an excellent example of passion derailed by incompetence. And I don't know if this is the result of incompetence of the developers, of the management, incompetence in planning or marketing. Doesn't really matter, because in entertainment what matters is the end product. And the end product isn't good enough. This is a AA game made with a AAA engine (and Ubisoft probably think this is an AAAA product).

I should be playing Outlaws while thinking how lucky I am for growing up a Star Wars fan. Except I’m playing Wukong while thinking how lucky I am for being Chinese and having grown up a Journey to the West fan. It would have been nice to have both.

Man, the worst thing a game can do to pull me out of the immersion is bad face animations. It's like "Oh, so you're not real" instead of "Oh my God, this character feels so real"

What this game reminds me of is an expensive McDonalds hamburger. Some like it, others would enjoy it more if it was cheaper. Even then, most people will simply get a more quality experience from something else.

My first contact with the Star wars series was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. it was the first game that i achieved a platinum trophy and it also sucked me into the star wars lore, since then i have been delving deeper into the star wars universe and also the reason why i was devastated when i knew ubisoft was gonna get involved.... 😮‍💨

From the day the trailer came out, i said this was the game id get for my girlfriend to maybe convince her to watch or just jump into the universe with me... at no point did i ever think this was made for the fans of star wars

I don't think Star Wars Outlaws is aweful, not as much as so many influencers say... The game doesn't change any lore, and that's most important to me, because i didn't like games studios reticoning things. I think this game looks better than the EA games that came before, and I'm glad ubisoft has the license to make these games now. The game is like a bunch of other games, and a bunch of games are like a bunch of other games. I've not played a truely original game in many years, so I'm not sure if the game reviews or whatever influencers have expectations set correctly. Its just another average current Gen game, without much else.

When a company goes out of the way to make a female character ugly, it just raises red flags. Plus I'm tired of Disney forcing female main characters on Star Wars fans. Yoda: The DEI is strong with this company.

Here’s my thought Many player asked for story based Star Wars games which I don’t think the studios like as it’s basically a one time purchase… so the past 3 games they made intentionally bad , then secretly they’ve probably developing another multiplayer micro-transactions extravaganza to milk whatever they can to recoup

My biggest gripe is the auto-save system - you can't save in the middle of a mission, and some missions (so far) have had a fail state of getting caught. I had to roll back over 10 minutes and re-enter an area and take out the same half a dozen enemies and distract others to get to where I got caught - just to get caught there again trying to figure out where to go. Any game that makes me repeat content drives me crazy, I just have a huge issue with it, and not letting me save during missions or at the least have some checkpoints as you make your way into an infiltration is wild. The last time I played I was issued a mission and had to make my way down a cliff to the entrance (1,050ft from where the mission was given) and exploring it I was looking for a card to steal when I got caught - it wasn't instant fail, but I was tying to build rep with this faction so I reloaded, thinking I'd be at the start of the area - nope, I was still on top of the cliff, right after being told the mission. I didn't even want to re-play navigating down the cliff and to the area again, let alone clearing out to the locked door.

After I have played it for about 30 hours I can tell you exactly why I think it's a really solid game. Everyone is looking at it comparing it to assassin's creed because it's made by ubisoft, or to fallen order because it's star wars, no one seams to be looking at it and simply seeing that have a fully open world star wars game where we can actually fly a ship. We have never really had that before, and the stealth mechanics feel appropriate for our character, especially early game. While I know everyone seams to want to through this game under the bus, I think everyone who is a star wars fan should give it a try, I had a lot of fun with the sebacc games and finding the little food stalls for nix's abilities. It might not be the absolute perfect star wars game ever made, but it's definitely the most fun I've had in a star wars game in a very long time.

The StarWars franchise is so burnt out, particularly after Disney took over and started churning out spin-off shows and terrible movies. It was originally for kids, the plot designed to deliver one action scene after the next, and to sell toys. It has since been retconned beyond credibility, with the universe filled out beyond any original plan, while name dropping the original characters. Time to let it rest.

Me, it would have been made for me. I love sneaking around, I love the outlaw, smuggler, scoundrel fantasy. But the wokists came in and took a steaming dump on it so me, the target audience, is no longer the target instead. Instead its for people who dont actually exist

Thought about picking this up, but then I remembered UbiSoft telling us to be comfortable not owning their games, so I said "OK"

The walk/run thing is a workaround to hide ugly sliding feet at slow speeds and jank interpolated running. It can save on animation costs if the team doesn't have the capacity to do more gradiated intermediate animations. Can't remember which game did it first but for games where you rarely vary your movement speed between walk and run it's a sensible tradeoff. Though in this case I'd lean towards it being the wrong choice, careful manoeuvring in stealth, for instance, needs fine controls.

That " woman" looks like the kid from Mask, that old movie with Cher in it.

Honestly, what turned me away from this game instantly was how the main character looks. Also, as a woman I prefer a male protagonist for the simple reason that if I'm going to look at this character for 50+ hours, I want to look at something that I like.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is six years old and this Star Wars.
