It's actually interesting because Harley in the new animated series really only gains the accent in the episode with her parents, aside from a few instances where it randomly comes out when she talks. It's kind of seems like a part of the characters origins, she doesnt want to have the accent because of her bad past with her parents.
@@zgiov7576 I can relate to it so hard, because I have worked hard to purge any trace of a Pittsburgh accent, but if I visit home I notice it starting to creep back in.
A lot of people loose their regional accents after moving out of said region and only when they go back or have visitors who still live there it comes back. My fav example is John "Captain Jack' Barrowman, I saw a doc about him and when he's out and about in the U.S. he has a mid-west accent but when he visits his parents in their home his Scottish brogue starts kicking in.
White Night Harleys are the best, you know it. Don’t lie to me Also Harleen should get a Joker type movie, just recreate everything in the comics Now I ask you to make a Cast: Harley-
Harleen is probably the best interpretation that exists at the moment. The perception of mental deterioration is to the point. This is how I always imagined the transformation. The drawings are also beyond any doubt. My personal top DC Comic 2019.
SoJezzalicious “Sure it fed into antisemitic tropes regarding its depiction of Jewish people and used and exploited its representation-starved LGBT+ fans for views without actually giving them the representation it’s trailers promised but that’s just, like, your opinion man and it’s okay because funny lady said the swear word”
I enjoyed it surprisingly. Underneath all the surface-level edge is an endearing show, and as a person who enjoys random over-the-top crap like Rick and Morty, it’s pretty fun.
I started watching the Harley Quinn showing on DC's streaming service. I had me hooked really fast. I liked the Young Justice continuation, but I like the new Harley Quinn even more. Also it has Kiteman. Hell yeah.
To Dang Tall Honestly the New Harley cartoon is my second favorite iteration of her! I like that she’s not trying to imitate Arleen and she sounds and feels like Harley (in terms of personality). Yeah she’s a bit angry but like who wouldn’t be after breaking up with the Joker? I love that she is also taking STEPS toward becoming her own person.
The animated series of Harley Quinn is also so far my favorite Harley, they nailed the character and her relation with Ivy and her crew is seriously heartwarming and HILARIOUS.
rotz I know this is old, but in case you never looked for the series because you misread the comment, it’s talking about the new animated series called Harley Quinn, with two seasons currently, not Batman the Animated Series.
That series made me realize how awesome Harley as a character. I loved her camaraderie with Poison Ivy and how they portrayed King Shark and Clayface. It's because of that show I'm binging BTAS and watching Comic Drake talk about the best girl in Batman.
This reminds me of the time I met my first Harley cosplayer....and she was in character...She litterly skipping down the hallway, singing to herself....and I came over to say hello. Well, yeah. She was a very pretty lady, too. "hi." I said. "Well...HELLLLOOOOOOOOOOO!" she chimed. "Hm...wait, I know you! Yer Naruto, ain't cha?" "Um...I'm Goku." "I knew that!" she said.
1 addition I would add is Harley Quinn from Batman: The Enemy Within. Seeing her and John (Joker) having switched roles with her bossing all the villains around and her trying to pull an enormous heist, while putting a rouse that she is crazy, so no one will dare oppose her, was an interesting look at how a psychiatrist can go about living a life of crime without the influence of the Joker.
Telltale’s Harley Quinn. It got down her accent and showed us a level of crazy and controlling with her taking the lead in the relationship that I really liked. It subverted my expectations of just a regular Harley under the chains of Joker.
Telltale’s interpretations of Batman characters was just overall revolutionary. They made a Joker who was a softhearted guy struggling to find friends! And he was the breakout character of the series, in my opinion!
YES. THANK YOU. The way they subverted her and yet made her seem more realistic and dangerous is excellent. I'm so glad I'm not a solo Telltale Batman fan coz man its hard to find people who play and love those games as much as I do. TellTale's take is the freshest thing that's happened to BATMAN since Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT.
Celestine Buendia From what I’ve heard men with mental illness like John Doe, are taken advantage of more by their partners. If that’s true, that makes their representation of their relationship even better.
and getting completely overshadowed by BOP and it’s commercial failure. The streaming service is killing peoples’ incentive to watch. I can’t convince anyone to watch this show without sounding like an advertisement.
Two versions of Quinn yhat I love -Injustice: Taking away her interactions with Shazam, she's super fun. And I love that her daughter puts Tu-Tus on toy trucks. It just fits so well. -Batman: Assult on Arkham: Hayden Walsh has a great voice for the character.
HQ: You heard Bats, No killing! WW: You lecture me? How much blood is on your ledger, Quinn? HQ: Oh, buckets full, honey. I was tryin' too hard to impress the wrong guy. Kinda like you with Superman.
They should do an animated version of 'Batman: White Knight' with Tara Strong & Kaley Cuoco as each version of Harley Quinn (maybe it could also feature the original voice actress, Arleen Sorkin, in some way?)
Arkham Harley, for the time, was the perfect amount of gritty but true to form that I like to see in Batman villains. I'm a big fan of her original costume though and some of the laughable attempts at sex appeal made the whole character a no for me at first but I grew to appreciate her as she appeared there. Injustice Harley is close second because I love when she appears but haven't gone through most of the storyline Overall giving Harley a sense of self beyond Joker's "favorite" goon is when I appreciate her most. The jokes are cool but I wish they'd stop doing things that make her into a Gwenpool type when she's already a more interesting character imo. I'd like to see them keep her costumes' jester theme more often too
I used to be only liking the og harley quinn but win I saw the new harley quinn show I felt like I'm seeing an evolution for harley I really love the way thay gave harley an amazing way of expressing harley
harley in the 2020 series is the most believable as a transition from ger btas one. like this seems more like her in a developed staged vs a total revamp which is why i think it's working so well.
I agree Harleen is hands down the BEST interpretation of Harley Quinn ever. If it were a movie it would defs be Oscar worthy. Not to mention the art is stunning and so realistic. They actually made the Joker look like a legitimate person someone could actually reasonably be attracted to and fall for.
I dont know why you feel the need to defend yourself so much, the Harley quinn new animated series is AMAZING. Is witty, is fun in a lot of ways, is just...really smart writing. And their portrayal of Harley and her relationship with the joker, her obsession with him, her wanting to get on the league of doom because the Joker respects them...is a great portrayal of an abusive codependent relationship. Her relationship with her friends is great too, and while some characters like Jim Gordon and Damien are a bit off, I just love the kind of comedy they have, is brilliant.
Harleen is on my To Get list. The author/artist has wanted to do that story for so long there’s still a prototype comic floating around when he was still doing fan work rather than professional. And White Knight was an absolute treat for Harley fans.
I do like the Harley in the new harley quinn series, since it explores in a more light hearted way her as an independent character and makes her more grounded with her bestie Ivy and her crew of lovable misfits. Sure it does some messed up shit in the series but I like the dynamics of her trying to find herself, ivy being the straight-man to her antics, and toxic influences getting in the way like joker, queen of fables and the legion of doom.
Batman: White Knight is one of my favorite comic series ever, and I love how Sean Murphy wrote Harley and Jack’s relationship, plus Sean Murphy’s character designs and art style are amazing, making him one of my favorite artists, alongside Hirohiko Araki (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure) and Junji Ito (Uzumaki, Tomie).
3 Harley's that really deserve some acknowledgment are Telltale's, the one from the Lego Batman movie, and the current DC Superhero Girls cartoon. I really like the flip of the script of having Harley be the abusive one in the relationship with John Doe in TT, letting her have a lot of agency that other versions don't really get to have. Having the SHG one basically just be the villain equivalent to their Batgirl also lets them get around the darker parts of her origins by just having her be an overly dedicated Supervillain fangirl. Plus having Tara Strong voice both of them is so much fun. And Lego Harley is just a fun character. I'm a sucker for characters voiced by Jenny Slate.
Drake you scared me with that lead up. New animated series Harley is AMAZING and for a second you made me think you were gonna say you didn’t like her. I 100% agree, best Harley by far
If you were surprised by Harleen then you should check out Sejic other books, in particular Sunstone. Reading that you will begin to understand why Sejic is so good with interpersonal power dynamics.
I really liked the Telltale version of Harley Quinn, it was interesting to see a version of Quinn who actually has the Joker playing second banana to her. And honestly through the game she came off as the most dangerous character to actually be in a room with.
Looking at the comments here, I'm probably going to be killed for this, but I don't like the new show. I honestly prefer Harley and Joker to Harley and Poison Ivy. I like seeing weird adaptations where Harley Quinn helps to reform the Joker a little, where she teaches him to respect her, and then they go back to beating up the bat together. I guess seeing her change the Joker kind of brings her backstory full circle to me, she acomplished her goal, maybe it took a long time, and corrupted her along the way, but she finally helped reform the Joker, even if just a little bit.
No offense, but what you just described is the epitome of what I don’t want the character to be. Harley and Jokers relationship is abusive as fuck and having it any other way just comes across as wrong and just not right.
I'd be surprised if I wasn't the only one mentioning her, but Harley in DC Super Hero Girls (the first one...I'm not a fan of the Lauren Faust version though I think she does good work) was fun to watch. She was training to become a hero but still had that Harley personality otherwise. Favorite is still the original DCAU version though.
I do enjoy Harley Quinn, although I am by no means a Quinn officianodo. Truth be told I barely even read actual comics, despite liking many of these characters quite a bit. I am just lazy. I don't see how anyone could dislike the Harley Quinn from her own show though. She is a blast!!! 🙂
9:28 Honestly I think the time and place for this show, after Titans kind of hurt its reputation for all of the wrong reasons. People _actually_ took issue with villains swearing. Only so few of the villains wouldn't swear publicly, the only ones I could think of being Lex, _maybe_ Penguin(?), this show's version of King Shark and this show's version of Clayface when he's not acting a role that would (sadly those later two do swear, which I especially have a problem with King Shark's case, he is *_WAY_* too pure for that kind of thing). Plus the villains are are allowed to be more naturally degenerate in general, like with Bane, obscure character from the comics Maximilian Zeus and Dr. Psycho.
My favorite was the injustice universe Harley. Her facing up of to her actions and trying to make up for the "buckest full* of blood on her hands. Plus her interactions of being a full blown hero with other heroes is great. Plus I love the message of everyone has a second chance to be good. The worst person can do good. Hell even to the point she's batman partner and is the only person bruce can just talk to since they both lost everything.
I feel like I'm the only one who wants her to go straight or at least be an anti-herione because I believe she one of the few Batman Rouges who could pull it off.
Whilst I love the animated renditions, especially her solo show and BTAS but I adore Sean Murphy’s more recent rendition of her in his White Knight series. It’s almost like he took BTAS Harley and made her realise how wrong and screwed up Joker was and how she had to get out before it got worse. She’s give mad agency and her story with Jack if I’m honest it’s more interesting than that of his and Batman’s. Plus, I’m so excited she’s got a spin-off of her own post White Knight’s sequel.
Gotta throw Margot in there too my man , birds of prey was a super enjoyable and fun movie because of her performance alone. It was a mixture of the og and modern versions for me. And the accent was done well especially considering Margot is Australian
@@deepfriedspaghetti982 fair enough, she is a better example of being overrated though. I love original Harley Quinn but Arkham games Harley is a second best for me.
I too love the animated series Harley Quinn, honestly it fits her character so well and like the design is really great too. The general feel of that show just fits her like a glove. I also just love Poison Ivy in that universe too LOL
I personally don't love Harley. She is alright, but I have never had much interest in her. There are some interesting stories. And I don't really dislike much of her stuff, I just don't particularly like her.
@@xopasstheaux6617 there's way more than just swear words. In fact them swearing is not really a joke at all honestly. What's good about the show is the relationship dynamics between harley, ivy and joker, and least that's what I enjoy the most about it.
I mean...I 100% understand why people wouldn’t agree but I wanna say I 100% do agree and I appreciate how you go into depth with the different versions of Harley from the DC franchise. You have NO idea how much I love the comic Harleen. I’ve been following the author since my DeviantArt days...he’s always had amazing renditions of DC characters I’d highly recommend his work.
My favorite period of the Harley Quinn's comic was the good run Conner and Palmiotti had after New 52. And oh man, did it went off the rails after that... And I'm very much looking forward for season 2 of the show.
I miss it when Harley had a black and red color scheme, which she lacks in Bird of Prey. I know why modern Harley doesn't wear a jester outfit (she's free from the Joker and no longer amuses the clown PRINCE of crime), but some design elements like her general color scheme should stay consistent. I know it's also the color scheme for Deadpool (who I despise), but no one owns a color scheme.
@@toganium4175 no, deadpool is based on Deathstroke, Spiderman, Snake eyes, and Wolverine. Spidermans design, Snake eyes wepons, Wolverines powers, Deathstrokes name and job
Personally, I never liked the outfit shift. I prefer the look of the more modest Harley as she fits the aesthetic more than the more risque look she has now.
I dunno the Harley Quinn cartoon has solidified that Ron Funches is King Shark. The writing has been top notch and probably the deepest look we’ve gotten into her mind.
Yes, who would've thought that Penny from The Big Bang Theory would be such a great Harley Quinn? I doubt even Leonard or Sheldon would've predicted that! It's just a shame they never got Penny to dress up as Harley Quinn, huh?
*My personal current favorite depictions of Harley Quinn would probably go in this order:* *1) DC animated universe-* From Batman TAS-Return of the Joker, the original Harley still resonates with me the most. Arleen Sorkin is also still far & away my favorite voice (Tara Strong 2nd). *2) Harleen-* Still the best written Harley origin imo, shame it hasn't yet been adapted into film. *3) Arkham universe-* Asylum will likely always be my favorite for Arleen Sorkin voicing again, but these games perfectly remolded classic Harley into a grittier (albeit, more sexualized) evolution. This re-imagining of Quinn is well realized enough to stand on its own merits while at the same time effectively recreating TAS' iconic Gothic noire atmosphere in a more quasi-realistic tone. *4) Injustice-* Best blend of classic Harley meets modern for me. She faithfully recreates the character that clung to Joker, but transitions into the independent New 52- esque Harley over time. I thoroughly enjoyed her character arc from Joker's loyal abused right-hand to a more complex guilt-stricken mother, and finally a leader in the Insurgency working with Batman of all people. *5) Harley Quinn animated series-* Because this show is ongoing, it could go downhill in the future. Currently, however, it has my favorite take on Quinn's "emancipation" from Joker (Take notes, DCEU). Her unfiltered mouth & dark comedy are gold, arguably the character's most mature interpretation to date at least in terms of freedom of expression. It has something for potentially every fan. It mixes elements from multiple past source materials across different shows & comics to create this layered but cohesive amalgam. Kaley isn't my favorite voice, but her version is competent. *6) White Knight-* A considerable departure from Harley stories fans were used to back then, but a welcome one that introduced a quality villain in Neo Joker and a creative new dynamic for Harleen. The conflict between her and Marian is almost reminiscent of Fight Club's psychological symbolism with Edward Norton vs. Brad Pitt, reflecting two opposing directions she could have gone. *7) New 52-* I think the majority would agree, one of the only quality things to come out of this reboot was the debut of the modernized independent Harley who'd serve as the DCEU's main inspiration. Transforming from a poster-girl for abuse victims into an almost Feminist icon of overcoming trauma to become your own person and find yourself again, this Harley has been influential to generations. Badass, zany and tragic like the original but arguably more three-dimensional, evolving into an on-again-off-again antihero, this comic run proved Harley "don't need no man" to be a compelling lead. *8) DCEU-* Don't misunderstand, I don't hate or even strongly dislike this version by any means. I simply love it the least and see it as having had the most potential wasted in context of its execution. Margot Robbie's performance is my favorite thing to come out of the DCEU (along with Gal Gadot). I can't see anyone else bringing Harley to life so well in live-action, she's been brilliant thus far. Her meta-humor is also comparable to Deadpool's, though it does fall short. Unfortunately, Robbie alone couldn't save the two cinematic messes she's starred in. Her wacky energy can get repetitive. Worse, so much of her background was streamlined, taking little-no advantage of the wealth of source material available. Lastly, her emancipation has been rushed, largely due to studio interference.
Margot Robbie of course! Said no one ever Not that she’s a bad actress or anything, I actually like her. But I don’t know what she was thinking when she filmed Birds of Pray
I think thats more of a problem with the writers not the actress. They should just pick a comic and make a movie based on that instead of trying to create something new.
I agree with everything and all your harleys which is rlly satisfactory lol, but other harley i would include in the top is Breaking Glass Harley, i think that comic is a gem, i think portraying Harley as an outcast teenager is rlly accurate, its a lovely alternative universe and also the art is amazing!
In my opinion my favorite Harley is from the Harley Quinn animated series. You get to see her grow and shrink, she’s a narcissistic, selfish woman but she gets better because of Ivy and her other friends. Also that show is my favorite thing to ever exist.
While I do like Harley and have a soft spot for her new show , I do think that she is being pushed too hard by DC. I dont think she works as a solo carry for a series much. Also, she should have appeard as a sub villan next to the joker in at least 1 live action movie before she got to become the focus on her own films. General movie going audiences need to understand how she works next to the guy who ruined her life before she can forge her own identiy. Even her show does spend a considerable amount of time establishing that dynamic and her needy tendencies, and its better for it.
Drake: THE BEST Harley Quinn Also Drake: These are my personal opinions Me: 🤔 Not sure if trying to start a fire or just forgot favourite, either way (takes sip of tea) let the wars commence Mostly jk, just think title is lil instigating.
Is it possible to objectively quantify if a version of a character is better than the other? I would say you can't and it's 100% a subjective thought/opinion so in this case saying someone is the best Harley Quinn might as well mean it's your favorite and viceversa
Kamposteria7 Eh, I sorta agree with that, but also disagree with that. I feel like you can say things like “this writing is bad” from a non subjective standpoint and that also extends to characters and their representation. For example take the last airbender (film) if you compare it to the source material I think it’s fairly easy to say the characters are written and represented badly. Therefore I do think there can be non subjective rankings to characters representations, however when it comes to “the best” then it does become a lot more subjective. I also disagree that saying the best X equates to my favourite X, firstly because then that implies there is no objectivity at all (which I sorta agree with on the grand scale of things), those words have different meanings and connotations for a reason, secondly because I have rankings that contrary to that. Eg I think Sun and Moon ate the best Pokémon games, but my favourite Pokémon games are RSE. If you said I think/feel that this is the best X then it’s all good, there’s subjectivity in that, but without that then objectivity is being conveyed. Anyway Idk why I pontificated for so long on this point so soz, and as I said I was mostly joking because imo the title was a bit instigating with the words THE BEST (as if it were an objective statement) even though that wasn’t Drakes intent because he’s not trying to start flame wars and such.
I would love to see you do a version of this type of stuff on Deadpool showing your fans which version is the best version of Deadpool, from Fabian, to Joe Kelly, and so on.
@@ComicDrake K… but I do remember in 2014 you did say that Deadpool could actually be somewhat enjoyable if he is in the right hands of the author, so it’s kinda off putting when you said he’s awful regardless of the universe.. but aight. As I respect your opinion, I’m sure you’ll change your mind if you read Joe Kelly’s run on him.
I'd heard rumor that Brittney Murphy was being considered to play Harley alongside Ledger's Joker in the third Nolan film, but then both died within a year or so of "The Dark Knight" and that was that. Dunno how much truth there was to it, but I loved the idea, beyond just the fact that I had always had a crush on her. if that had happened, she would have been my favorite. White Knight was awesome and I really liked both Harley Quinn's.
Harley + Ivy 4eva! 💓❤ 🥰😍💋💘💝💖 The ultimate, definitive supervillain power couple (as long as they're not portrayed by Margot Robbie and Uma Thurman, that is...)
