I would say Tim Drake since he wanted to be Robin even after Damian took up the mantle. He also became Robin to help Batman deal with the death of Jason. Everyone else either gave up the mantel or had some other problems.
Tim Drake because he was made for the role. Dick outgrew it, Jason was too reckless and emotional, Tim wanted to be Robin and never wanted to be anything else other than it he was hurt when Damian took the mantle when Dick was Batman. It also explains why it’s harder for him to get a new identity that isn’t linked to Robin such as Red Robin. Jason is my personal favorite because he’s the most relatable to me but he wasn’t an ideal sidekick.
The issue of "best" Robin is really touchy because each of them filled a vacuum in Batman's skills. Tim is a better detective. Dick is a better leader. Jason is a better infiltrator. Damian is a better fighter. Stephanie...Okay, not all of them are winners, but yeah they all float around at about the same level.
@@notspider-man7777 When he was first brought up, he could take down Dick and Tim effortlessly, later writers nerfed him because they wanted everyone somewhat on the same footing. The same with toning down Tim being a better detective than Bruce at the cost of him almost being sociopathic in his ability to disassociate from what he was doing. In short, if not for the travesty that was Flashpoint and the New 52, we'd likely have a better and clearer vision for these characters.
I actually consider Tim Drake the best Robin due to the fact that when he made his debut he figure out the Dynamic Duo's true identities showing how skillful he is as a detective.
VERY unpopular opinion: Damian Wayne is my favorite Robin! I like him because being the Son of Batman and grandson of Ra's al Ghul leads to him being a very interesting and conflicted character. Also with him being Batman's son it actually makes since Batman would train him. All fathers want to pass down their knowledge and skills to their sons. Also on a very personal note my eight year old son passed away three years ago so their relationship seriously hits home for me especially during the death of Damien story line.
1. Dick , goated & original. In an animated movie Damien, a kid trained by the best immortal assassin, said he wanted to be trained by Dick. And he beat Damien the first meeting in the movie too. 2nd is Tim bc he’s a natural detective, even Bruce said he’s a better detective
Oh ask me to pick my favorite child why don't you?...I'm gonna have to go with Tim here. Not only was he eager and became a real light in Bruce's life at a dark time during the era of Death in the Family and Knightfall he's also the only Robin who has treated himself as Batman's equal rather than his subordinate. Tim is a better detective than Bruce, a better hacker than Bruce, but with Dick's more positive attitude because he was mentored just as much by Nightwing as by Batman
While damian is kind of an unlikable character, his personality bounces off the other characters in interesting ways, and really gives the stories he's in a jolt of energy
As much as I personally liked Tim Drake as Robin, this all seems pointless considering how they've just torn the DC cannon apart like a bunch of cavemen discovering a box of tissues. We cant be sure anything we liked about any of the Robins is true or even debatable anymore.
Dick Grayson… hands down. He’s the original, OG Robin. He had what it took to stand side-by-side with Batman and not get killed. He had the balls to leave and go solo. He had the qualities to lead his own team. He took over the mantle and he tapped just as much fine-assed women as Bruce. Dick is the best… no homo (Riley Freeman).
There were some great points made that got me thinking, much appreciated! Also, I will own up that I am massively biased on this topic, and I'm not even ashamed of it. Sorry if Ranger references are annoying, but I kinda see Dick Grayson as the Tommy Oliver of the Bat Family. ...and I just realized there is an entire Ranger team worth of Robins, so I'm going to go recover from my exploding mind. Awesome vid!
I think you've put together a valid list and like you I would have been a little challenged as to where exactly to put Jason but you have to go with Dick Grayson as the best Robin because as you say he was the 1st and the template for all the others
Batcave, this video on The Best Robin was really well done. You brought up some great points on each of the Robins that you had on your list and I have to admit that I respect your thoughts and opinions. As for my top Robin list 1.) Richard Grayson 2.) Tim Drake 3.) Carrie Kelly 4.) Damien Wayne 5.) Jason Todd 6.) Stephanie Brown Thanks for making this wonderful video and can't wait for more Batman related videos from you.
As a kid there was like 3 Robins. Now too many Bat family/Robin members. Dick, Todd, & Tim. Born in 99. Not a lot of Robins/well known Robins (Kerry Kelly)
Dick is for sure my favourite Robin, by a lot. He's even my favourite member of the Teen Titans. Then it's: Tim, Damien, Stephanie, Carrie then Jason last. I love Jason as Red Hood though, one of my favourites then.
My gut answer is Carrie Kelly, but that is overall as a character. I see your point in that she would be lower as a Robin since she didn't keep that moniker very long, but also find that a weird way to rank the list as no one stays Robin forever.
Only barely related to the topic of this video, but I was just thinking and I've realised how much I'd really love to see a new batman film that included the bat family, not just the lone dark knight. The last attempt.... the less said, the better but film makers have ignored the wider bat family for so many years and I think it would be dope to see the whole team working together, not just batman beating up baddies in an ally way, alone and brooding. That's been done so much now, and is about to be done again in the batman
It was always going to be a tossup between Dick Grayson and Tim and for me, the edge goes to Dick. To fight crimes, criminals, you need strength, you need to be a good fighter. Dick is the leader and is in peace with himself, unlike Jason, Damian….. Tim is a better detective, but with Bruce Wayne in the team, Dick is a better ‘sidekick ‘ that compliments Bruce. Tim however would be the best Robin for Dick as the Batman.
Richard Grayson - Didn't want to be Robin anymore, became Nightwing, a better version of Batman. He's always the "butt" of the joke in every animated scene he's in, his nickname fits too well. Jason Todd - Kind of died, wasn't so much a sidekick. Rushes in instead of providing backup. Tim Drake - Found out who Batman was by himself, became Robin because he saw that Batman needed a Robin(whole storyline). They did him dirty in Arkham Knight Stephanie Brown - Better as Spoiler, can't follow orders, shortest superhero term ever. Damian Wayne - Too Young, aggressive, kills, not that great as a Robin. He needs a few more years to cook before he's a contender During their time as Robin specifically, it has to be either Tim Drake or Dick Grayson
Damian is my easily my favorite but it's probably fair to say Tim and Dick were better Robins though Tim has felt off since the New 52 and isn't the same anymore.
Grayson has gotta be the best Robin cuz he’s the most well rounded out of the 3… He’s not as brutal as Jason but he can be brutal enough, he’s not as Smart as Tim but he can definitely be really impressive at a Genius convention himself, he’s still more skilled than Damian as Damian gotta grow way more but for now he remains the most skilled out of the 4… Heck, if all the Robins existed as Robin at the same time, he’d obviously be their leader.
Another great video, if it wasn’t for the frank Miller Batman the dark knight returns short run then we would’ve never got the Michael Keaton Tim Burton Batman. They said Tim Burton walked around on sad with Frank Miller’s Batman short run and took a Lotta inspiration from that to make the Batman movie
If we’re just strictly deciding best Robin I’d say it’s either Tim or Dick. Dick Grayson is the OG, the one who created the Robin mantle, but I love that Tim CHOSE to be Robin. As much as I love Jason I do have to agree he wasn’t a good Robin. But DAMN is he a great character now that he’s Red Hood.
I agree with your picks for the best, but My favorite is definitely Tim. In my opinion he was the closest in mindset to Bruce Wayne in terms of being a good detective and such
Personal opinion of who is the better Robin specifically: 1. Tim Drake 2. Dick Grayson (He is better as Nightwing or in his short stint as Batman) 3. Damian Wayne 4. Jason Todd (As Red Hood he is awesome) 5. Carrie Kelley 6. Stephanie Brown
My list is Dick Grayson (being the first and original robin),Jason Tod (because i like hot headed characters like Raphael from tmnt,Knukles from sonic boom and hulk),Damian Wayne (hes the only one who is related to bat man,he also has the best suit and the same reason for Jason Tod,Tim Drake the smartest robin and i love the charcater because of what i heard about him but i know little so,Stephanie Brown and Carie Kelly are the ones i know nothing about but there ranked in that order Stephanie Brown and then Carie Kelly
Grayson is the best robin, and he’s great as nightwing, and as Batman too, and I don’t disagree with your choices you made on this list, and it’s a great list, even though; I never liked the original robin suit though.
My fav robin is Dick but my second fav comic character is definitely Red hood. Ok this is a question I’ve always go back and forth on. I would say Damian coz he’s the better fighter but overall it has to be Dick. Idk man you can even say Jason coz he doesn’t pull any punches ( even Damian)and Tim coz he’s the most tactical one. Idk 😂😭😭😭 I was literally thinking about this too myself yesterday. Dick is the best- Batman’s success.
Tim is the best robin. He doesn't have any major baggage with Batman and is the most loyal in many respects. The others are more capable than him, but capability isn't the point of robin, being a partner and grounding pressence to Batman is.
The “Death of Stephanie Brown” you mentioned was changed to a fake out by Batman that caused a major separation between him and Tim Drake. That being said my list of Robin’s is as follows: Stephanie Brown Damien Wayne Tim Drake Kerry Kelly Jason Todd And at number 1: Dick Grayson
Jason is my favorite character in the DCU but he was an absolutely terrible Robin lol (and I think he would admit that). He always argued with Bruce and used Gotham's criminals as a punching bag to let his anger out on. The best Robin is probably Tim Drake. He almost always listened to Bruce and followed his directions, he is tactically the smartest and most calculated, he has an obsessive determination and work ethic, and he is willing to do whatever it takes to complete the mission. He is the most like Bruce in a lot of ways and in fact actually became Batman in one of the Rebirth timelines.
tbf he wasn't even bad he was angsty but it was something that happend like once every few months. It's just how modern media makes it out to seem like jason was the angsty robin but it was a rare thing plus he was actually really good at being a robin mastering the training in 6 months so I wouldn't say he was a bad robin
Isn’t it a tie between Damian and tim since I’m the comics they both are predestined to become Batman ? Damien become Batman and pretty much destroys Gotham and tim become Batman because of batwoman killing clay face with a headshot
it's a tough decision but i think Tim as Robin is better than Nightwing, but as a character and crime fighter, Dick is the one. I like to consider that if Bruce is weak, frustrated or just... off; Dick would be the perfect character to cheer him up, to encourage him. I mean I think he would know exactly what to say. In addition to his charisma and positivism. But as sidekick, Tim abilities are better for The Batman. Hence why: Tim, Dick, Damian, C. Kelly, Jason and far far away... Stephanie
I know you mentioned you have a back ground in martial arts! Would you be able to do a video on the different martial arts Batman has learned in his career? As well as, what type of fight scenes are you hoping to see in the movie? It will be cool to see what they do. I hope they take inspiration from Bat-Flecks warehouse fight scene in Batman v Superman. However, it’s a dream to see some one-shot action scenes like the John Wick movies. Let me know your thoughts!
I’m excited to see your thoughts! Your content is well thought out and well presented. :) I am a BJJ blue belt and love nerding out over Batman’s fighting skills. Take care.
Completely unrelated but does anyone else think battinson looks way too skinny? In the comics, he's a LOT bigger - very broad shoulders, chest a mile wide, and ripped beyond belief because all he does is train. Bale had a very believable size and shape for his portrayal, and as we've seen in the machinist and his other roles, it's very possible for someone to lose a tonne of weight and look emaciated, or bulk up enough to be a convincing dark knight. So why didn't Pattinson do that too? I'm not against this new film, I'm actually very excited for it but in all of the trailers I can't help but think he looks like a kid in a fancy costume, probably coz Bale set my expectations for the character, but to be fair that IS how he is in the comics anyway
@@thebatcave111 (first off, thanks for even bothing to reply. Often stating an opinion in a yt comment is like shouting into the void) Ok yeah that's a fair point but didn't he train extensively before even year one? My knowledge of pre-year one adult Bruce from the comic books is sketchy at best but I know in the Nolan film he had spent years training with the League of Assassins before retuning to Gotham to become the Bat, if that's accurate he should already be hench, right?
Absolutely. But if this is being grounded in reality, its beyond difficult to get big when you are doing as much martial arts training and cardio that Batman would need to be doing. So his size in this is just a lot more of a realistic look that a fighter like that would have
@@thebatcave111 you know what, that actually makes so much sense to me now! I'll leave out any further judgement until I actually go and see it 😊 thanks for setting me straight hahah
I always loved Tim as Robin. Dick was great as the original. Jason was hot headed and reckless, but I feel for him because he had so much emotional baggage. Damian...ugh.
