Who is the 'God of all Daleks'?

The Emperor of the Daleks who reigned during the Time War is notable for many reasons - he was arguably the most powerful Dalek ruler of all time, he led the Daleks during their more ambitious campaign, and after the downfall of his Empire he went on to establish a zealotic cult of hybrid-Daleks who worshipped him as their god. But what is the full story of this legendary Dalek leader?

In my head, I consider this post-time war Dalek Empire the "Holy Dalek Empire", considering the Emperor convinced himself he was god and introduced the premise of religion to the Daleks. If anything in history has taught us anything, there is no better way to justify hypocrisy than zealous dogma.

I've always maintained that the Prime Strategist is the original Evil of the Daleks Emperor, enslaved by the new empire after his failure but deemed too important to kill (a la Davros) who eventually overthrows his succesor to become the God Emperor.

what ive always wondered is why the timelords are sometimes considered multiverse but then in the time war they are battling over a universe
@dalekbumps
@dalekbumps Год назад
It's never been truly explained but as I understand it, the Doctor's universe is the 'Prime' universe and all other universes splinter off from it. I could be wrong though, as there are outliers that don't fit that pattern - such as Pete's universe, for example
@tichepotato7992
@tichepotato7992 Год назад
@@dalekbumps You also get the various Unbound universes, distinct from the Doctor's universe that we see onscreen. Some of these even have their own Time Wars, fought by varying factions, won and lost by varying sides.

Big Finish kind of touches on this during the 8th Doctor's run. Rassilon essentially made the Time Lords rise in 'all time' by removing timelines in which they would not rise to power. Making a clean, unbroken line. The Time War was a battle in TIME, as well as space, creating rippling paradoxes. Time Lords were killed, revived, never died, never born, infinite times as both sides abused paradoxes and alternate timelines, in order to try to permanently crush one another. It is what made the Time Lords absolutely cruel: They are time-sensitive. They remember EVERY timeline that happened to them. They have known war, for far longer than their regenerations, and have known thousands of regenerations. Far too much for them to truly be sane and rational. Honestly, the Big Finish productions of the 8th doctor in their whole, chronologically, until they get to the War Doctor, into the Time War proper, are fantastic.

The Emperor Dalek is my absolute favourite Dalek character in DW, followed very closely by Sec. His design and the utterly perfect voice work by Nicholas Briggs combined with his god complex makes him such a great villain. He's also has a very interesting parallel to the Metaltron Dalek from the same season. Both of them survived the Time War and are absolute proof that, wether they have an army or just a singular Dalek, they are a force to be reckoned with. But the Metaltron showed us that Daleks obsession with their "purity" is just as destructive to them as it is to anyone else. That, combined with the fact that, as it itself believed, that it was the last of its kind made us sympathise with the metaltron. The Emperor Dalek's desire to survive, to rebuild the Dalek Empire and continue their universal conquest made him betray his own kinds philosophy and resort to stealing the "waste of humanity" and use human flesh to rebuild the daleks. The isolation in deep space and hating their own flesh slowly drive his own kind insane, then he starts filling their heads with the idea of blasphomey and making them worship him as a God. Any sympathy the audience might feel, goes straight to the Impure Daleks and not him. He's an absolute hypocrite, a complete and utter monster and I love it. He's one of my favourite villains from any media ever, and while he wasn't around for long, he still left such an impact. Also congratulations on 4K subs!

I mean, Davros used humans to create new daleks before so if anything he was just following the Davrosian philosophy of Dalek. It’s also possible that the Kaled and humans shared a common ancestor, which I find to be a pretty interesting idea. This would explain why some parts of the human genome could be cultivated to produce a creature very similar to a Dalek.

This is one of my favourite elements of dalek emperors at there core they are a force that wants to conquer and expand its empire which can override everything as we see this in dalek empire where after it dies it’s mind and Susan mendez’s mind were transferred to another dalek it continued to try and find ways of conquest even tho it’s forces were depleted

From a Meta perspective, I like the idea of the Dalek Prime/first Dalek we see in their timeline in Genesis of the Daleks being the leader destroyed at the end of the Revival's first series.

I want to believe that this Emperor is actually the mad Davros who turned himself into a Dalek. This would explain his megalomania and belief that he is a god, because, as we know, real Daleks have no concept of a god.

not sure how to phrase it properly so ill just take a shot i love its bent towards religious zealoutry as it gives the dalek god emperor a strong personality to play with and makes for an easy way to frame the dalek empire(s) that follow his banner. originally since we only saw this emperor variant in "parting of the ways" it could be a little hard to figure out how it got into whats basically a christian dogmatic POV even with the knowledge that its ship was damaged and it was left isolated with whatever daleks were left on board (if any), but since Big Finish started using him in the Gallifrey series its fleshed it out a bit more to show that its always had a bent towards religious dogma, if slightly less fanatic about it. in a roundabout way the god emperor dalek also helps flesh out a point ive made about the daleks before, which is that in the case of some dalek variants, the further they stray from their base model (whether by damage, mutation, being built/modified for specific purposes, etc) the more they start to exhibit traits associated with davros. the dalek god emperor basically declares his right to rule by divine right, which isnt far off from davros declaring himself the daleks true ruler by virtue of being their creator. even his speech patterns can mimic davros just a bit

It’s cool how you call it “Christian Dogma” even though we know nothing about how the Emperor’s cult functioned / how it was structured and you likely don’t know anything about Christianity outside of pop culture.

Hey Dalek Bumps, great video, as always! I am thinking of making a DYI Psyche Dalek figure, but, one thing I am unsure of is the colour scheme. I wanted to base the figure off of Psyche Dalek Three, from the comic "Emperor of the Daleks". I may sound stupid when I say this but I don't understand what colour it is meant to be; in some pages, the Psyche Dalek appears to have a yellow and black colour scheme on its casing, but, in others it appears grey and black. What is your opinion on Psyche Dalek Three's case colour scheme? I understand if this is just shadowing, on behalf of the illustrators, but, I just wanted to be sure. I'm a big fan of your channel and look forward to each video - you do an amazing job, keep it up! :)

Thanks for your kind words about the channel, sorry the uploads have been a bit sparse recently, I've had a lot going on but I'm going to try to put out some more Q&As over the next week or so to fill the gap. As for the Psyche Dalek colour scheme, personally I've always liked the yellow and black colour scheme, like the Dalek Eternal ot really gives the impression that this Dalek is something dangerous that should be feared, its a great colour scheme for a Dalek that is exclusive to the comics

I do really like the god emperor dalek I feel he is an extremely interesting as for his origins I do think he is more likely the restoration emperor as they have similar characteristics and not the strategist as he I feel wouldn’t gain delusions of god hood. And interestingly enough the god emperor actually gained these delusions early on in the time war with some daleks saying the emperor be praised or when a dalek supreme questioned the emperors strategy even just a bit the emperor had him exterminated calling him a heretic

It's interesting that all the Daleks know they are grown from human tissue, and seem to be sort of okay with it. These Daleks, likely due to their religious devotion, are the most ruthless and efficient the Daleks have ever been. If they had succeeded in becoming the supreme race, I wonder if the Emperor might have destroyed them for being impure.

I mean tbf maybe not all Daleks but there is a case to be made for him being the god of some/many Daleks isn't there? Like its pretty megalomaniacal, absolutely. But he's technically correct?
@dalekbumps
@dalekbumps 7 месяцев назад
Taking his claim (and the zealous worship he inspires in his followers) at face value, that's probably correct. The mistake that the Emperor made was, essentially, believing his own myth - he convinced himself that he was a deity with godlike powers, and so when he's confronted with an actual godlike being, he's powerless and ends up getting himself and his empire disintegrated. There's also the fact that, in order to even be acknowledged as a god by his followers in the first place, he had to contradict one of the fundamental Dalek philosophies and allow his soldiers to have a concept of a deity, and other related ideas such as blasphemy and worship. Basically, in order to become the 'god' of his Daleks, he had to fundamentally alter them to the point that they were not technically pure Daleks anymore
@chaossmith3864

@@dalekbumps True. It's especially funny because I said something along the lines of he bought into his own hype too much though in a conversation after leaving this comment. Because I thought of that point when talking about the comment. The latter point pretty much is Daleks faction style debate I think? Maybe I'm wrong. Also a good point, don't get me wrong I'm not saying it isn't. It just feels like a Dalek faction debate. Actually that's a part of the not all Daleks thing too. What would have happened if the Dalek Emperor's Empire bumped into Davro's Dalek Empire (from Stolen Earth/Journeys End); who would consider who impure? In addition, would Davro's Dalek obey the Emperor simply because it *is* the highest hierarchy, or vice versa if they'd see Davros or would just erupt in a massive (Remembrance of the Daleks-style) full scale war due to genetic impurity?
