Remember. Shedinja with full EV investment MUST put a point into Special Attack, Defense, or Special Defense. Thankfully, Shedinja is irrc hardcoded to not gain HP evs, and loses whatever it has when evolving.
And shouldn't have been in this video. Shedinja is not an evolution of Nincada and I will die on this hill. It's a BYPRODUCT of Nincada's only evolution, but it's still a single stage.
Shedinja's defensive stats do actually come into play in a few niche scenarios, most notably if something Transforms into Shedinja due to the Pokemon keeping its HP upon transformation
@@captaindemozan2700 It's a byproduct of Nincada, *not* Ninjask, as it used to be part of Nincada's body, and you can't get it without evolving Nincada.
I really want the box legendary of an eventual main pokemon game to be part bug, both to blow away people's expectations with how powerful it could be and end bug type's reign of being the worst type.
Wasn't there a legendary bug robot that was better than the box legendary in gen 5. Bug isn't a bad typing. It just horrible offensive since alotresist it
After digesting the legendary bug idea, I thought of what it could represent. 300 million years ago, Earth was full of giant bugs. Today, the insect biomass outweighs that of all other animals. A legendary bug could represent biodiversity and the start of natural evolution. And because life started in water, and fish are also very biodiverse, bug/water would be an appropriate typing.
Just had to point this out Araquanid actually hits harder than Golisopod if it's using a water move due to Water Bubble. It has a low attack stat in order to compensate for the ridiculous multiplier. Like how Huge/Pure Power mons have lower attack due to the buff
@@megascizor32 Detect has a niche over Protect in Doubles due to not being stopped by the Imprison/Protect combo. In doubles the lower PP usually doesn't matter, and while Imprison/Protect isn't too common it pops up every once in a while.
@@megascizor32 That's actually an incorrect statement on your part. Detect is actually preferable over protect if available because of imprison. Fewer pokemon carry detect so it means you're less likely to have your protective move disabled.
I actually chose Araquanid over Golisopod because of it’s ability water bubble ability on a water/bug type giving it more protection against fire types and the fact that it won’t switch out when it gets too low of hp, I hate abilities that do that because often causes me issues in battle
I’m surprised Sunflora dodged your list. Being a Pokémon who evolves from a stone, it normally takes a while to find one first and even then, you don’t want to do that immediately since it can only learn certain moves beforehand. You expect it to be worth it, right? Well, not this sunflower Pokémon. It’s stats barring Special Attack are horrendous, especially its Speed, and its not even worth wasting a stone. Bellossom might as well be mentioned too because it doesn’t even get the stat buff Vileplume gets in later gens. Great video btw, Emperor Cubone. :)
I mean, that Special Attack stat combined with two _god-tier_ abilities probably keeps it far away from the list. Chlorophyll with max Speed investment lets it contest with base 109 Speed mons in the sun. That's max Speed Kartana, for the uninitiated. And Solar Power cranks its meh damage output up to 11 and lets it, for example, OHKO max HP Garchomps with Solar Beam (though this is Specs in the sun, and it still _barely_ makes the guaranteed kill at ~103% min. Also watch out for Fire Blasts). Granted, there are a million mons that do what it does and more, but the likes of Ariados and Ledian aren't coming close to either of those feats.
Dont forget the worse gen 2 pokemon sun stone evos are from johto famous for low base stats overall and sunflora would be actually good if it wasnt so slow
Swoobat has simple. Combine that with calm mind and stored power, and you got yourself a powerful sweeper when timed correctly. Then you can also use a salac berry to help prevent the revenge kill. Maybe I’m being biased but I think Swoobat has more going for it than you think
Simple is hidden ability so you are normally not going to be using those strats outside of the bottom tiers of competitive, leaving you with Unaware, which is highly situational during an in game playthrough and Klutz which is just straight up bad.
neven patrk This video isn't really centered around in-game, and while Stored Power Calm Mind isn't enough to break it out of the lower tiers, it is still miles more threatening than Watchog
@@nevenpatrk9661 even in game, swoobat is far better than watchog lmao, it's faster and can still set up with calm mind also pure normal is awful so that doesn't help watchog in the slightest
@Galv Sparks On your point of it being a pure normal type, I'll be honest when I say I do not get why people say it's actually decent, since it's really not going by type match-ups alone. Normal is literally the most neutral type in the game, and while having only 1 weakness is nice, it really doesn't make up for the fact that it also has zero resistances and 1 immunity to complement it, thus it's not in my opinion a good defensive type. That being said, I will definitely agree that Swoobat isn't completely terrible thanks to the simple + calm mind + stored power combo people keep pointing out
choosing Vivillon as the worst is a crazy move because that Pokemon is actually incredibly solid. Not only does it learn quiver dance, bug buzz, hurricane, and air slash by level up, but it also has access to the flying type. It also has compound eyes to boost its air slashes, hurricanes, and sleep powders up. It also gets rage powder and friend guard for doubles, making the pokemon an incredible support tool. Aromattise is far weaker than Vivillon
That's all fine and dandy until it dies in one hit to one of 5 common attacking types Edit: mind you I don't think it's the absolute worst. But it isn't "solid" It's useful in the bottom tier(s) only because of QD
@@1stCallipostle I could be wrong but I think what really holds this pokemon back is its speed. If Vivillon was faster it would be very powerful, cause then it could sleep powder, sub, QD all day and then bug buzz everything to death. unfortunately 89 speed doesn't really let it get the jump on much to get the sleep off
Pykumuku being in the same sentence as luvdisc is insane. Pykumuku is an amazing wall and is fully capable of sweeping teams (and I’ve done it many times)
Props for being the first person I've ever heard pronounce Delibird's name in the way that acknowledges the pun within it This bird does not work in a deli
The powercreep over the gens really shines when it comes to stuff like Spidops. When your Route 1 'rodent' is nearing 500 BST, and several of the non-legendaries can be pretty overpowered, it makes Spidops' low stats shocking. The main thing going on is that it has a lot of entry hazards and a slow U-turn to get your teammates in safely, but that's it really. Also Vivillon actually has a use in CompoundEyes + Sleep Powder. Its the fastest Pokemon with an 'accurate' sleeping move with little drawbacks, making it potentially good support. Not much but hey.
Vivillon also gets access to quiver dance, which is one of the best boosting moves in the game and pretty much automatically makes most Pokemon that learn it at least a little bit better by proxy
Well, one thing that isn't mentioned in the video is that Spidops' signature move is a Protect that slows physical attackers, so that, with the other things you mentioned, might make it better than Wugtrio. Even if you make the case for Wugtrio having Gooey that also slows physical attackers, it already has higher speed than most of anything it will encounter and the fact that it actually has to get hit for the ability to activate along with Wugtrio's abysmals HP and Defense will most likely mean you only activate it once, while Spidops higher HP and defenses (but still not that great in general) and nature of a protection move means that it has way higher chances of surviving more than 1 turn and set up more debuffs/hazards for the enemy team.
@@tezminator I think Wugtrio is in fact the king of terrible this gen. Dugtrio's main use for 7 generations has been it's ability. Take that away and you have basically nothing.
I feel like Magcargo could be included in something like this. It's original stat total was only 410 which is even weaker than the route 1 Raticate, it also has 2 common quad weaknesses. Evolves at level 38 for some reason which is no excuse for how weak it is. And on top of that, in it's debut, it was only available in the post game, where you either already had a better fire type, or use the other post game fire in Houndoom which is way better than Magcargo. And sure Magcargo got it's stats buffed to 430 recently but that's nowhere near enough for it to be good.
viilvlon isn't thaaaaaaat bad. a set of quiver dance hurricane sleep powder and bug buz combined with the ability compound eyes can come in handy. hurricane is a very spammable move and this pokemon has STAB on it. edit: the compound eyes ability boosts your accuracy by 30%. this gives your hurricane 91% accuracy and your sleep powder 97.5%.
Swoobat's speed coupled with Simple + Calm Mind + Stored Power makes it a monster of a Pokemon. With 1 Calm Mind you have a 100 BP STAB Psychic move coming off of 2x SpAtk.
swoobat, frosmoth, and vivillon arent that bad. They have utility that helps them get stronger such as with swoobat it has simple which is great on it especially with calm mind and stored power, vivillon has sleep powder, quiver dance, and hurricane, while frosmoth has ice scales which makes it really bulky actually and it had quiver dance which makes it scary to face against if you do a misplay
In defense of frosmoth, with its hidden ability and quiver dance, its capable of not only tanking but absolutely demolishing others. That's without items being taken into account, such as the assault vest. While it has you forgo quiverdance and focus solely on offensive moves, it can practically tank nearly any special attack. Regardless of, its main concern are physical attacks.
Hmm, it feels like abilities were ignored in this analysis. An obvious one to point out is Swoobat, given Simple is an ability that can easily run away with a game. But I think the biggest disagreeance I have with this list is Frosmoth. If you hone in on its physical weakness, I can understand that. But it has Ice Scales, an insane defensive ability coupled with its already decent SpDef. This thing has insane special bulk. In my own SwSh run, a slightly underleveled Frosmoth with this ability and an Assault Vest was able to tank Leon's G-Max Wildfire while Frosmoth was not dynamaxed. I remember being incredibly impressed with it from there onward. So I'd personally argue Thievul beats out Frosmoth as "wimpier."
Frosmoth does have its HA saving it from being the weakest in Galar, imo. Ice Scales is a broken ability in a vacuum; halving the damage of all special attacks used against it. The combination of that, Quiver Dance, and a high Special Attack makes it able to eat some special hits, setup, and wreck house. I can't say the same for Thievul. Thievul's niche is... Unburden, I guess? The idea is to Nasty Plot up, activate an item, then deal damage with +2/+2. But Thievul not only has a lower Special Attack than Frosmoth, it also has a weaker offensive typing. And what item could it even use? Terrain seeds require a ton of external help from other mons - at that point, you might as well just start Baton chaining boosts onto it. Pinch berries require it to Sub up, which it finds hard to do reliably with its middling speed and poor bulk. And other stuff like Focus Sash, type berries, hit-by-a-type boosters, etc are also very inconsistent and usually rely on your opponent making certain moves - for Focus Sash specifically, one wrong tap (be it chip damage or an attack that barely misses OHKOing it) ruins the entire strategy. So basically, Thievul is trash while Frosmoth is decent-ish. I still would have liked Frosmoth to have Volcarona stats, though.
Yeah, Ice Scales is such a good ability that it's banned in Almost Any Ability (a Hackmons metagame where Pokémon are still restricted to their normal movepools, but like the name says, can have illegal abilities). Basically, it's thought that the ability is so good that it would be broken if Frosmoth didn't have such bad stats and typing.
Fin fact, ariados used to have the same BST as ledian until gen 7 where it got a measly +10 sp def buff and the signature move toxic thread while ledian didn’t even get anything.
I'm sad that Delcatty has such horrible stats, because it's so cute, and one of my favorite Pokémon design wise. Wish it could be as op as it is in Mystery Dungeon.
I used a trash team for HG and Ledian was absolutely useless compared to the other trash mons I expected Corsola and Magcargo to be bad but they helped out a ton thanks to their passable attacking stats paired with high powered moves like Surf and Flamethrower The team: Ledian Dunsparce Sunflora Magcargo Corsola Delibird
They should make Bug type Pokémon to appear in later GYMs so they can have stats of 530 so they can become better in battle like Volcarona and Cizor are.
All they really have to do is bring another type out and make it ALMOST op but give it a weakness to bug or retroactively give bug a strength to one of the most common types and they'd be much more viable even with their stats
Swoobat in my opinion is not that wimpy, one of it's abilities simple, doubles the power of Critical Hits and Stat Modification moves, with substitude, calm mind, stored power and some sort of coverage move, it sweeps
It's a real shame; bug is my second favorite type after steel and they've got some real bangers: heracross, the scyther line, Lokix is one of my favorite mons from Scarlet and Violet. But to say nothing else, even the wimpiest bugs manage to (mostly) look cool.
Oh Heracross is easily in my top 10 Pokemon of all! And there are plenty of other cool ones like Vikavolt and Centiskorch, so it's got great potential.
Parasect would have been completely broken in Gen 1 if it had a decent stat total focused on speed and special. Even more than Mewtwo. Spore is guaranteed to make a pokemon fall asleep. Imagine Parasect with an 80 or above speed and special stat with a move that guarantees you at least two free hits.
If they ever do 4 stage line they should really give it to a regional bug. It can have 3 quick evolutions like a standard bug, and then a 4th late in the game to bring its stats up to snuff. So that it's worth it to keep the bug around until the end.
How many times has the "regional rodent" actually been a rodent? + Gen 1 (rat/mouse) - Gen 2 (raccoon/ferret) - Gen 3 (canine/badger) + Gen 4 (beaver) + Gen 5 (groundhog) - Gen 6 (rabbit) - Gen 7 (mongoose) + Gen 8 (squirrel) - Gen 9 (pig) So that's less than half the time, indicating the trend is not so much "regional _rodent_ " as "regional early route _Normal type pest mammal_ "
Yeah... well that's a huge mouthful; fans have simply called them "rodents" because it's easy shorthand, and you know exactly what they're talking about. Because whatever their scientific classification, a ferret or rabbit are close enough to rodents that nobody is confused...
@@emperorcubone Yeah. I've met people who don't even realize a _wolverine_ isn't a rodent; it's a weasel, after all, and aren't all weasels rodents? And since murines and mustelids are my two all time favorite taxa of animals, I don't begrudge anyone not knowing how very distinct they are since most peoples' interactions are "does it make a good pet?" (rats and ferrets have near-identical care needs in terms of enrichment, socialization, space, free roaming, etc.) and "what parts of my livestock do I need to safeguard?" (both rats and wild weasels go after your small egg-laying fowl).
Fun fact about frosmoth. I use one competatively. It's not that bad honestly. Give it a timid nature, and irs hidden ability ice scales make it only 2x weak fire as long as it's a special attack. Heavy Duty Boots won't hurt it when it comes to stealth rock. Once Quiver dance us up it even sweeps rock types with giga Drain. It's a great pokemon actually of you use it right.
Araquanid is pretty strong IMO, has good bulk and its signature ability water bubble turns Liquidation from an 85 base power to 170 BEFORE stab is applied so after stab applied its 255. It also has access to Lunge which wont hit that hard but should be decent chip damage while also making it a stronger physical wall
Dude. Frosmoth has ice scales.. reduces special attacks damage by half. with that ability it can be a special tank. and with quiver dance and some solid coverage.. just keep it from rock n fire and you have a good mon.
I am in my 30s and have been a Pokémon fan since literally the beginning. Yet I was still today years old when I learned that Delibird’s name is a pun for delivered. Holy crap.
HEY! This marks the second time you've put Haxorus in the thumbnail for a video about weaker pokemon! ('Who's the Weakest strongest pokemon?' was the other video) It was a relief to see he wasn't actually considered in the Unova region here, but he also belongs no where near the thumbnail for videos such as these! Leave the mono type dragon with a behemoth level attack stat alone! D:
I honestly didn't realize that, I certainly didn't mean to pidgeon-hole Haxorus as weak; I just put it here to be provocative since they clearly weren't wimps...
Beedrill is fantastic in Gen 1. It was a mainstay in my team in my Let's Play. 4x damage against Grass/Poison and 2x against Poison types? It's great against a lot of the trainers you'll face, especially if you don't want to bring Psychic types everywhere (for variety, of course)!
Amazing work on the video as always Emperor Cubone! You’ve grown a LOT these past what? 2 years? I’ve been around since you had around 12-13k and next thing I know, you have 120k+! Congrats man! I’m so proud of how far you and your channel have come! Keep up the fantastic work!
@@emperorcubone lol😭... love your little takes ,u should definitely do video essays (longer videos ) I feel like your sense of humour plus your unique takeaways would really hit it off plus you have a awesome voice really asmry and podcast -esque if that makes sense 👍
Hah, it's funny you say that, just on Sunday my friends told me I should record for audio books or something because of my voice. I might have to try a long essay format at some point!
Not all, Pokémon have to be strong. Most of them are just wild animals and some animals in our world rely on other strategies different from fighting in order to survive.
When it has Dry Skin poor Parasect is basically 5x weak to fire. I hope some day it gets redeemed with a bug/ghost evolution based on cordyceps, or something cool like that
While I get some Pokémon are meant to be weak, but a lot of these Pokémon have some pretty solid individual stats and if the game freak actually cared about balance, every Pokémon should be somewhat good competitively.
Swoobat and frosmoth are suprinsingly terrifying if don't immediately take them down Swoobat has access to the ability simple and two of the Best setup moves, calm mind and nasty plot,on top of having moves like expanding force, energy ball and most importantly, stored power Frosmoth's Hidden ability is basically a built-in light screen, and it has access to quiver dance, who needs to talk about her coverage if it got quiver dance?
Parasect is my favorite pokemon because it gets spore and false swipe. Late game, you can use it to start collecting all the pokemon for your pokedex without having to switch out as much
@@Compucles That's true, it's not for serious battles. But it can be one of the most useful in games where it receives these 2 moves. For something I'd never use on my team in gen 1, it's probably a poison type like arbok, muk, or weezing
Wow this johto list makes me realize that it was totally forgotten about. When was the last time a Ledyba/Ledian or a Sentret/Furret was even in a game. I in no way remembered these until I saw them just now
Woobat was my first ever shiny Pokémon I caught in a play through so it’ll always have a special place in my heart. But I already liked it so it just boosted my adoration
Kriketune in bd has pulled his weight on my play through literally one shotting alakazams and other threats i was pleasantly suprised. I wasn’t even leaving it on the team but it helped with two early gyms and I would have felt guilty cutting him lose
Poison is a solid type in gen 1, yeah right. Only being effective against grass types, in generation where almost every grass type has a secondary poison type ...
Delelewoop is a sad Bug pkmn: Kicketot takes ages to evolve (where are my Lv. 7 cocoon pkmn in Sinnoh?) & becomes this underachieving bug that can hold its own against no other mons. Swoobat is a really nice Pkmn touse in BW until you get to the Desert Resort, where you can find Sigilyph.
I’m not sure I agree with the Swoobat pick. I think you left out an important factor which is Simple+Calm Mind=Murder. A Nasty Plot and an Amnesia in 1 turn with its unnecessary speed and a Life Orb with Stored Power… all I can say is don’t sleep on the swoo
What I love so much about Frosmoth is that it’s hidden ability halves the damage taken from fire type….oh god I think I gotta take a dump…. Oh wait I think it was just a fart. Anyways as I was saying, Frosmoth’s hidden ability makes it so fire type moves only do half damage which….. oh GOD I GOTTA GO TAKE A DUMP.
