In the 1990s the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda was a dangerous place.
A number of sex workers were murdered and discarded after being taken from the streets where they worked. One of these women was Amanda Byrnes who was brutally murdered in 1991.
With exclusive access to Police files, detectives and Amanda’s family, Million Dollar Murders follows new lines of inquiry that may help identify Amanda’s killer or killers and Victoria Police make a crucial announcement in the program for the public to help close the case.

It's despicable that only prostitutes are defined by their professional and treated as less than human in life and death.

Why is it that everytime someone gets murdered randomly, they are always the people with greatest personalities? I'm not talking about this case specifically. I've been watching crime shows and podcasts for long time, never heard a case a murderer killed someone who's a real POS with a horrible personality.

I lived in Robe St, St Kinda when I was in my 19. I was followed by a man in a car and ran in a person's place. I hid and got home safe. I was very cautious in my travels. Didn't tell my very strict parents as I was very controlled in my movements. I agree though hearing people argue on the street. We moved to Balaclava when our lease was up.

How come the NSW or Victoria police (I'm Canadian) never asked the state government and/or the federal government (in Canberra) to send them the list of all the names of the drivers who owned a Mini Morris van in 1991 in NSW and elsewhere in Australia? I think the key to solve that murder was there. Now I think it's too late. In an investigation you must do the right thing from the beginning and do it very fast and correctly and professionaly. I do think the police made some mistakes right from the begining.

Problem is they're all on heroin & giving statements weeks later. They could easily have confused the last night they saw Amanda as that being the night she was murdered. So, Amanda's friend may have been home on her last night. However, drops for a toothache sounds ridiculous for a heroin user. Users of such strong drugs really feel no benefit from ordinary OTC remedies unless she had no mobile kit & needed to go home for another 'hit'. Her not wanting to state that to authorities would possibly cause her to tame down her alibi, stating.. went home to deal with a toothache instead. Mothers they may have been but decent mothers they were not. They were on the streets to feed their habit not their child.

Max is wonderful. I can't imagine what it'd be like to be him approaching his mother's age growing up in the area that she lived in and died in. The imagery of him listening to her favorite music around the scene where was found is a sad, macabre, but comforting one. You can tell how much he loves and connects with his mother and how much he cherishes and would've cherished her existence. His section was quite an endearing one, you can see that he takes after her taste wise. I hope some good news comes out soon about her case.

I heard no mention of an attempt to find the registered owners of that type of vehicle back when it happened, then through process of elimination they might've been able to solve the crime. Here in America that step is routinely taken if they don't have a license plate number.

And millions of innocent people have had their lives destroyed by police officers as well. Perhaps the taxpayer don't want to contribute to that million dollar reward to jail an innocent person. But every person that is stuck paying into that reward is being victimized by the police force as well. Other unsolved murders in the same area. Sounds fishy to me. It's a cop or a rich person. They're not paying the million dollar award. The taxpayer is. And there is a good chance that will end up finding an innocent person. I know I wouldn't want my taxes to go to that. And if a person wants to give information that is credible they wouldn't need to(or want to) be paid.
