I think lore-wise, Captain Alex's character has many symbolic meanings while Richard is a relatively more simple character. The director succeeded to show Richard's character because he seems to excel in direct and visual interpretation (with great help of the actor), but he failed to do so in Captain Alex, so he had to resort to more verbal explanations. My opinion is, if we distill Alex's character to the very backbone, he symbolizes the (long gone) hope (as a leader who will drive Ugandan people out of the misery). Since the assassination attempt of him, Alex gradually fades out of the movie, finally gets forgotten by the other characters, and the question of 'who killed Captain Alex' is proved to be unsolvable and meaningless at the end of the movie. I still suspect the director's (mal)treatment of the character of Alex is somewhat intentional, to express that such a hope is very far reach from the Ugandan people.

Even the Star Wars Prequels need to learn from this 😂

I think it may be actually quite realistic detail. The corrupt (as seen in the movie) police won't track the gang members based on those apparent tattoos. Meanwhile, the gang needs to intimidate the whole townfolks with a very visible brand. Whether the actual gangs in Uganda use this kind of tattoos (and whether Mr. Nabwana actually knows them) is not known to me.

This is like searching for shit and then finding some but it's made of 24-carat gold and studded with diamonds.

Like even without context, the action is cool, the VJ is funny, these people are having a blast, fucking around with shot composition, trying things and learning and thats just beautiful, i love the human desire to create.

Believe it or not, it also happens in other third world countries so I can relate to that remote part lol. It's actually pain in the ass if it is stuck in the menu screen unless the pointer is pointed in "Play movie" selection and you just press the "Play" button to start the movie. We didn't have the luxury of taking a peek at the extras back then so I can symphatize with that decision.

Which consisted of shooting, uninspired swinging a baseball bat, some uninspired and dull punching, boring and uninspired swinging a fucking katana, and more uninspired shooting. In suicide squad, the big budget helicopter scene just literally hovers and shoots, doing nothing creative or exciting. In captain Alex, A HELICOPTER BLOWS UP FUCKING BUILDINGS WITH MISSILES FROM BEHIND IT!

No uniqueness what so ever. This movie however is something special. A movie with only $200 somehow had better action. The choreography and kung fu style of fighting were actually really good. It is over the top but in all the right ways. And the shitty CGI actually blended well with the fighting. It just elevated it to new levels of awesome. I mean a Helicopter that shoots high powered missiles behind it is in a war with a group of Ugandans who self taught themselves Kung Fu during another large scale war. How amazing is that!
