After brutally raping and murdering a beautiful young mother, this horrible killer had four decades of freedom to live his life and grow old. The legal system fails a lot, but this young investigator's commitment to this case was the greatest gift to the family and ex-husband of Sonia Herok-Stone.

It's a wonderful thing that Sonia's brother finally apologised to the ex husband for the accusation. Beautiful healing

The police mugshot was lost. The vial containing his blood broke. This was a ridiculous and incredible comedy of errors save for the persistence of the deceased's daughter

It's crazy how back in the day cops had to do so much more "boots on the ground" type work and this new detective just sends a Q-tip to a lab and gets it solved. Lol

Two DNA samples and he said he was there. He pretends he's not guilty. Why should there be apprehension about the outcome? If evidence of that magnitude can't close a case, we're all in peril. And his lawyer, "too much time has passed." Shame on him. And he should know that there is no statute of limitations on murder in Canada nor in California. Shame on is ineptitude.

That wasn't ineptitude. That was an evil man throwing anything at the wall to try to get his even more evil client off scott free.

A lawyer has the duty to protect their client regardless of how ppl feel. Esp if they’re the lawyers that are assigned to them. They too can be targeted by the bar and if they don’t do everything to try to defend, the person can claim that they had insufficient counsel and have their conviction overturned and possibly get off at a new trial. That doesnt make them evil. Also, if u were to tell me that a cop went after the ex and then saw a burly guy across the street and that’s the only 2 ppl he looked into, then there was a cross contamination of DNA and photos of blood spilled on the evidence- but then magically some random lab had viles bc they called every lab- there’s serious doubt. Just bc ppl “feel” someone did it, doesn’t mean they did. Also, I’ve cut myself in the garage on plexiglass and there’s been no blood on the glass or garage. It’s a quick slice. This is how so many innocent ppl get convicted.

Actually, she WAS forgotten. The DNA tech was there 15 or 20 years after her murder, and maybe the evidence wasn't lost or destroyed at that time.

A liar and a coward took a beautiful life and almost got away with it because of some silly, stupid laws. A terrible part of this documentary is when Sonia`s former husband was wrongly accused. What that poor man must have gone through all those years is beyond belief. I feel sorry for him. RIP Sonia. Didn´t think much of the brother but I do like Sasha. Hope she finds peace and comfort now that the beast responsible is behind bars for good.

WOW- what an incredible story, or rather, TRUTH telling. The underlying reporting & production was obviously top notch, but the principal people involved in this investigation alongside the victim's family members- her steadfast advocates- did a BRILLIANT job in not only investigating/proving-up this cold case, patiently & diligently working to get answers & bring a measure of peace & solace to the family & memory of the victim; but also... EVERYONE did an OUTSTANDING job in opening up & expressing their experience of living in the shadow of a cold case & difficulty of trying- NEEDING- to accept the loss of such an incredible, beautiful, & beloved person... in spite of having no solid answers, justice, peace, solace... as well as, the pain & struggle of *having* to move on without this. Meanwhile, having to leave a part of their heart enmeshed in the hurt/vulnerability & desire for answers, to keep pressuring LE, & fighting to get justice... FOR DECADES. EVERYONE in this story should be commended for their unwavering dedication to victims & innumerable Ppl impacted by such crimes, and the desperation they have for the perpetrator to be proven & prosecuted. Bless them all- the family, the friends, the LE, the lawyers/judiciary... & the AMAZING advances in technology that allowed Truth & Justice to FINALLY be achieved, & the journey of torturous turmoil to turn into one toward acceptable & peace, & also honoring the life & legacy of their loved one ripped from their lives FAR too soon. I appreciate everyone involved for honestly, emotionally, & heart wrenchingly expressing their pain & struggles earnestly, poignantly, emotionally... it was BEYOND TOUCHING/COMPELLING. I am grateful for these stories that have an uplifting resolution in place of a question mark- ESPECIALLY when a definitive perp/suspect escapes responsibility. I appreciate this story & the family for poignantly sharing the long journey to achieve justice & for honoring the pain/struggles ALL the victims endured bc of this senseless & devious crime, and the way LE came together & worked WITH them, thought creatively, & never stopped fighting or trying to close this cold case... Bc these crimes are just as important as those in the present day, & bring increased peace/safety & GOoDness to our society the same as solving any other crime. This incredible woman lost a lot, & her family did too (her daughter is the epitome of class, grace, her mother's beauty & smart, & a decent dash of grit❤️👍🏻), and ALL VICTIMS deserve the honor of every measure being taken to acknowledge & resolve the violence/violations they've undergone, & the honor to their life & memory of achieving reconciliation for the crimes done to them, in one way or another- The more cold cases solved, & POS criminals get a knock on the door, the better FOR ALL OF US! The more task forces or resources put toward this cause, the more evidence gets processed, & r@pe kits are tasted, genealogy tests are uploaded by public into law enforcement databases & genetic genealogy research is undertaken, AND Ppl come frwd with info, tips, knowledge, secrets, details they know or heard or were threatened with... THE MORE PEACE & SAFETY WE WILL ALL BENEFIT FROM, but primarily bc... these victims & their crimes deserve recognition & JUSTICE, & their families/loved ones NEED the ability to work toward healing & to have enough solace that they can FINALLY sleep well at night, & feel they've done their duty to the legacy memory of their loved one. Back the blue & promote funding r@pe kit testing, genetic genealogy, evidence backlog testing... it's the low hanging fruit to clearing criminals, perverts, & violent offenders from our communities! Lastly... *VOTE!! & Vote locally* bc it affects ur life, or COULD... & in muuuch greater/more ways than ANY presidential election is capable of. The judges & lawmakers' actions impact, & play a role in, your life DAILY... & FARRR more than you could ever realize! {P.S. If you "like" true crime, YOU can help! YOU can do something to fight it, & should give back, in whatever way you're able/capable or that is possible... There's MANY options/possibilities & ways to help or give back, to honor the victims, to help make our world better, & clean these criminals off OUR streets. Vote, & also, try to do more... DO *SOMETHING* more, bc you're interested, likely knowledgeable/invested in the topic... & bc YOU CAN HELP!!
