And while I did find you humor very funny, I have to admit I probably wouldn't have stuck around for a decade if it weren't for what I learn from you. I started making cabinets with my dad more than 40 years ago but I still learn something almost every time I watch one of your videos. So congrats and keep it up! And now one small request for a future video. I believe that Stumpy should come out of retirement for one special episode on your channel. We haven't heard from him in a while and we miss him and want to make sure he's OK. So PLEASE, let's see Stumpy visit our screens once again!

I always thought the Stump Nubs character and show were loosely based on the Canadian show The Red Green Show. I personally enjoyed both Red Green and Stumpy Nubs but understand the change. I'm certainly not saying the new show is bad, quite the contrary but I do miss some of the off the wall humor. Thank you for ALL the videos you create.

James I was there when you were just Stumpy, it was such a catchy name how could you refuse to watch it. It help me begin my woodworking journal and today my channels closing in on 20,000 subscribers. You’ll always be stumpy to me, thanks James.

I can't remember for sure but I do believe this is the first comment I've ever left on your channel. I would like to say I have followed your channel from day 1 (or at least pretty darn close to day 1) and have always loved it in all of the formats. I had originally found your channel and Matthias Wendell website while trying to find a means of making a burr puzzle to impress a girl i had started dating. Now a decade later I married that girl, went from not knowing much about fine woodworking to having a successful home remodeling company and doing custom fabrication and replicating parts for historic renovations out of a 12k sqft converted aircraft hanger. Never underestimate the impact you can have on someone just by being a little less polished and a little more relatable. You may think your earlier videos are cringy but to me they introduced me into something I only saw a massive barrier to before. I look forward to the future of your channel and what is to come that i can learn from you. Also i still haven't ever made a burr puzzle so maybe if you made a video on that ... 🤔

I just found your channel within the last couple weeks and can't get enough, I'm learning a lot of stuff I thought I already knew. I began watching in the spring of 2014 while recovering from surgery. I fondly remember the original Stumpy Nubs character. One of my favorite videos from that time is the sawbench build. It's a great balance between education and entertainment - I go back and watch either the original version or the short version when I can. You are my go to person for sound woodworking tips and advice James Hamilton. Thanks for ten years!!

Well, James, I have only been following you for the last 3 years, as one of the best woodworking channels with interesting, valuable, and reliable, content, but I must say I enjoyed every time you made a joke or funny comment. I have been around for a long time. And it was the old format, the humor, that got to me. You were one of my first subs if not my very first. As you changed, I missed it but loved the new format as well and still come back. Have yourself a cold one my friend you deserved it.

I've seen a few of the original "Stumpy Nubs" and they were entertaining. As the years have progressed, I've noticed your demeanor has shifted more towards safety (especially after that horrible accident with the carver/angle grinder). While your original content was just entertainment....as you put it....it still inspired me to start woodworking. :)

I came to your channel a few years ago. I subscribe to your channel and watch it regularly because of your calm, clear manner of speech, rational, logical presentations, professional level video and lighting, and the great content. I would never have continued to watch you had I been there at the beginning, as the smarmy sarcasm and humor of the early years would not be my cup of tea.

Don't worry Jim, you'll grow into those looks! Funny, informative, entertaining or just plain 'serious for a minute' - Your clear, concise, honest approach has drawn me into your workshop. You've been a major player in bringing about a new found interest in woodworking, that I'd dropped in school in favour of Art class, back in 1974. I may never cut mitres like Jon Peters - or fabricate whole workshops full of....er....everything imaginable like DiResta but I'll always be there listening to your advice in the hope of getting just a little bit better one video at a time. Even as a fairly experienced woodworker who has graduated from making cabinets and such to what can be called by many as "fine furniture", I still learn something useful nearly every time.

A white oak feel in my yard 3 years ago. April Wilkerson channel showed me how cool it would be to Mill my own lumber instead of paying to turn into firewood. You then showed me that I could actually make amazing things with that lumber. You've added a whole new part of enjoyment to my life that I didn't have before, thanks stumpy

Hey James, hope you make it out to the west coast sometime in the future, I'd like to meet you in person. I started woodworking during the pandemic, I was a union carpenter but was paid in the last 20yrs. to build track structures to support moveable partitions which meant more steel fabrication than wood. Before that I was in the drywall industry which fell under the Carpenters union but still, no woodworking! Guys like you, Richard Eng, Jason @ Bourbon Moth among others were my lifeline to all of this. I have a friend, a cabinet maker calls me "the youtube carpenter" and I think he thinks he's being funny but, I take it as fact and a complement! Thanks James for all the help! This time of year we all kinda count our blessings and your channel is certainly that!

I've been a subscriber to your channel for a few years now, but not since the beginning, so I enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Your content has gotten more and more professional, even during the time I've been watching. I can't tell you how much I've learned from you that has helped me along in my relatively short time woodworking. This channel, along with a few others, have made it possible for me to take up this great hobby relatively late in life and make some things that my family and friends really love. OK, nostalgia aside - it was fun to know a little more about you and your time. Here is what I know. I really like your current style of presentation. I am a Quality Engineer and I am used to more professional presentation - which you are very good at; yet while maintaining that more humble approach that is not intimidating. You are someone I watch a lot and I love what you teach.

I am a recent viewer of your show. Although I haven't gone back to view you old shows, I think I would really enjoy your humor. As a young man I did a little wood work and really enjoyed the touch, feel and smell of wood. But as often happens life got in the way. James, it’s amazing to get this retrospective with your thoughts. The contrast between your older and newer videos has been something I’ve noticed on many occasions! You have done so much here and come a really long way. I hope you are proud. And thank you.

I never knew the early version of Stumpy Nubs existed. Honestly, I probably wouldn't have subscribed, though I may have still been amused. I really like the polite and gentle Stumpy Nubs who's always giving out advice with the tempered confidence and open-mindedness that seems to come from being very far past the first peak of the Dunning-Kruger graph. That's the kind of stuff I need for the next couple years as I make the transitions from a dude who builds houses for a living to a dad with a desk job and a hobbyist woodworking shop.
