Hamilton is crying in the orphanage scene because he was an orphan and to see his wife take care of children that were like him so they won’t have to struggle hits hard. He’s also just now realizing how much his wife can do and how good of a heart she truly has. He never gave her much attention and so he never really knew this about her.
“They are your legacy. We are your legacy!” Because when he dies they will carry on with his last name and his bloodline. He would have to rely on them to also share his story. Eliza was trying to tell him that his whole life.
it rips me up, I do not cry during movies, i'm just not much of a cryer, but musicals have this weird way of finding those cracks in my armor. It's gotta be the way they use visuals and emotion in their voices. Hamilton was groundbreaking as a musical. I'm comfortable calling it one of the greatest musicals to have ever existed.
Eliza has done so much to keep Alexander's legacy and efforts for the country for the greater good despite having a few bumps here and there. She told the world about his legacy and nobody told hers and all she has done. Hamilton isnt about Alexander Hamilton.....its about Elizabeth "Eliza" Schuyler Hamilton, wife of the $10 founding father and the entire reason the Hamilton musical is what it is. Eliza is really a wonderful woman. Despite her husband's flaws and errors, she dedicated her life to preserving and telling the world about her husband and all she has done for her country.
agh, that part about the orphanage always gets me. not only is that the most emotional part of this song, but the way that the animatic's creator frames it, really focusing in on eliza's face with the peaceful background of the orphanage, it just hits hard
This is like the bitter-sweet ending. Alexander is an orphan, and we are reminded of that throughout the whole musical. So Eliza created an orphanage to help people like him. The orphanage is still up and running to this day, and Eliza's actor volunteers there, both before and after she was cast to play her.
Hamilton was scared and afraid because his whole life he was working towards his legacy. He wanted to know he died for something and wanted others to know that too. And he was re thinking it all when they were telling him these people who did a lot in life were not given credit for a lot. He realized you leave your legacy and have to rely on someone else to pass it on.
I cry every single time I watch that video. As a mom, I start sobbing thinking of all her children she outlived and her strength of spirit. I tell myself it’s healthy... 😅... if only to remind myself to make sure my loved ones know I love them every single, precious day.
There's a lot of hidden messages in this song. When Eliza enters she says the line, "I live another 50 years, it's not enough" and I think that refers to Washington saying to Hamilton, "Dying is an easy young man living is harder." In the play Eliza mentions her speaking out against slavery and you see Washington hanging his head in shame because he had slaves. The main final moment is at the end of the play where her gasp is very interesting. Some say it's Eliza looking at the heavens to see her loved ones and others say it is Eliza looking at the effect of her and Alexander's legacy changing the world.
"I live another 50 years, it's not enough" refers to all the times Eliza said "that would be enough" in relation to not having a legacy and just living life, like when she comforts Alexander after he was sent home and when she asks him to stay with her and Angelica at her father's house. You could say this is her finally understanding what it is like to write like you're running out of time.
Can we please just get a Hamilton part two and it would be in Eliza story after when Alexander died and we could see how she keep Alexander story around.
If you’re willing to do different animatics for songs you’ve already covered, I recommend the First Burn animatic by kurowoof. I’d say they focused more on Elisa’s anger compared to Ziksua who focused more on her hurt. I really like it, it’s one of the top tier animatics for sure
