When I first started my plumbing apprenticeship, I had some Milwaukee pliers and some actual Channellocks. But the plumber I was working with had 10” red handled Wilde pliers and told me I should get a set. After one week I gave away my Milwaukee pliers and bought a second set of the Wilde. I still have 6”, 8”, and 12” Channellocks; but both of my 10” Wilde pliers are in my back pocket when I walk into any house or job. And they cost less or the same as a pair of Channellock, Milwaukee, Klein, etc.

Yea man there is just something about those Wilde 10 inch pliers. Perfect design especially for plumbing. A plumber I know is the one who turned me on to them.

Yeah man, Wilde makes excellent pliers, probably why snap on and Mac use them for a lot of their stuff

Great review. I'm a plumber too and you perfectly explained why I prefer flat jaw pliers over the knipex style.

The Knipex style jaws would be good for grabbing pipe/nipples, but for slip joint nuts or adapters to bloody aggressive for me. What ever you put it on its going to mar the sh*t out of it. I'm sure mechanics use them mostly for tie rods for the same reason.

As an electrician, The knipex style jaws work better than the flat jaws for most of my day to day jobs but it seems like a smart idea to have both.

Growing up in the house we had an old pair of craftsman channel locks I hated them because the pivot was loose and would twist out of the channel when you put some torque on it. I've only bought knipex since. 😂

Lol I think we’ve all had a crappy pair of channel locks that did that. I just want Knipex to make a straight jaw pair of Alligators.

Out of all the tools I have, my collection of tongue and groove pliers is probably the most extensive. For some reason I always end of finding them randomly or am get them from friends who don't use them. I have so many different kinds and brands.

Same here. I have more than I know what to do with. They have pretty much just become a collection at this point. It’s fun to just grab a different pair out of the tool box and use it for a week or two though.

I would assume it would be Channellock that makes the best Channellocks. Unless somebody else is making Channellock tools. And why would they be doing that when they could sell their tools with their own name on them?
@shawnglass108
@shawnglass108 Месяц назад
I assume you’re joking an realize that “channel locks” have become the generic name for this style of pliers. Like everyone calls cotton swabs “Q-Tips”. Regardless of the brand.

I've always used Douglas too and I'm a plumber too but here lately. I have found that the yellow sleeving comes off pretty early in its lifetime. I don't know if they change methods but it's been a problem
@realworldtoolreviews

Mine did the same thing. They start sliding off pretty quick. When they slide off, dump some super glue down in the handles and slide them back on. Mine have stayed on since I did that, and they get wet all the time.

As stated, Wilde makes the pliers and Douglas has the following but you can also find them with the yellow handles and nickel plated finish with a discounted price under other plumbing supply outfits like "Walrich", "Plumbest" & "Jones Stephens".

I realized all my channel locks have curved jaws I need to invest in a pair with straight jaws
@realworldtoolreviews

I think a straight jaw pair is a must have as far as channel locks go. They are just more versatile to me.

I went out and bought some Channel Locks I bought the 12 inch straight jaw the 10 inch straight jaw and the 7 inch straight jaw the 12 inch one I bought separately and the 10 inch and 7 inch pairs came in a set of 2 I had gotten them from Tractor Supply for $34.99 I needed some straight jaw pliers I have some but they are cheap knockoffs most of my pliers are curved jaw because most of them are Knipex and Knipex doesn’t have straight jaw pliers to my knowledge.

You need to try Snap Ons they to have flat jaws and opposing teeth. The fit and finish on them is a cut above in my humble opinion.

I’m sure they are. I’ll check them out when I’m on the snap on truck. I always hit up the snap on guy around Christmas. I’m definitely going to be buying some more pliers. I got the needle nose ones last year, and they are amazing. I got the slip joints for my father in law and he’s been loving them. Snap on pliers are tough to beat for sure.

Knipex are good, but they are some of the MOST over hyped products ever. People make it seem like Knipex does no wrong and they are gods grace to the tool world, but any of the numerous copies or similar products are just as good.

@@htr5372 For the CoBolt cutters, Capri makes a set that's just as good, if not better. Project Farm did a review on them. And from first hand experience, the Icon Plier wrench is every bit as good is the knipex one. Any warranty that you have to pay to ship your tool to them to have it MAYBE replaced is utterly worthless.

I definitely agree. Knipex makes great tools, but their marketing is even better than their tools are lol. Some of the designs are over complicated and over priced for me.
