Today I go over the current 2021 truck lineup and discuss the pros and cons of each brand! My Car Build/Mod Channel: / @tronautolab Second Channel: / @thebenhardyshow Instagram: ben_hardypl Facebook: @benhardycar
From a police officers perspective of these trucks/vehicles in our fleet. We use Chevy/GMC (Tahoe, Silverado, Sierra), Ford (Explorers), RAM/Dodge(1500, Charger, Durango). Out of all them, the Dodge/Ram’s have great features and feel/look the best when new. However our GM and Ford vehicles last the longest by far. We have plenty past 100k miles that run great and they are definitely driven hard. The Dodges have the most problems and the interior fit and finish fall apart first. Not always the case but the general consensus. This is from a police vehicle perspective and we beat our vehicles up. Just my two cents. All three make good vehicle though.
I assume the rams that you have are from the previous generation? It would be interesting if the new style ram holds up to the abuse you are talking about. I guess a few years we will have a better idea.
No way I would ever go with a Dodge Ram I had one brand new it was garbage instrument cluster went out after a week I had it the AC went out 2 times fuel pump died after the 1 st year shopped the truck 3 times for the damn transmission truck barely had 60,000 miles on it finally had enough and traded it in on a used Silverado z71 never had any issues my opinion I would go with either Ford Chevy or GMC
@@lastcall170 Nothing. There are pentastar V6's with 600,000+ miles on them! IMO the best V6 on the market. Also no direct injection crap to deal with. 2.7 v6 in the fords is a nice engine except for NVH. Terrible NVH but not as bad as the 3.5 in Tacomas. That's probably the worst V6 for NVH that I've ever driven.
@@paulfeasal6024 read about the Ecoboost V6 development. It was built for boost. An engine that was made to handle turbo boost will last a long long time.
I wish they'd concentrate on pricing more towards something is affordable (but not stripped). I'd like to see some concentration on pricing tech! Personally, I'd like the better trim bits...but without all the required "tech" that I hardly, if ever, use. It would be a better value for me with no less enjoyment.
@@gmrtg1414 Did you pick RAM straight away? Trying to convince myself I'm not a Ford fan boy, and want to research all the half tons' Pros/Cons. I want the best transfer case with locking rear axle in the segment.
@@joshuapisani1853 I had 2 LTZ Z71s 6.2 a 17/19 before I got my 20 Limited. They all make really nice pickups I always say I wish I could get a GM 6.2 Ram Interior/Air ride and a F150 exterior lol. I’m not sure who has the best locking rear diff. I’m guess the AT4 or Rebel for that type of use.
I do agree that the GM Truck Interiors are a disappointment especially if you’re paying more for the GMC Sierra. At least they’re getting an Interior Update in 2022, both the Silverado and Sierra will get an updated dashboard and Super Cruise, GM did add the MultiFlex (MultiPro) Tailgate to the Silverado for 2021 which is great and the Sierra will finally get a Digital Gauge Cluster. Great Video Ben!
The two things I miss the most about my 17 and 19 LTZ Z71s are the 6.2 what a great engine. The rear bumpers steps are such a simple thing you don’t think about till you don’t have them.
I have a 2018 Ford F150 XLT. I'd love a new one but truck prices are just bananas these days. I guess that I'll drive mine til these prices become more affordable, if ever.
Out of RAM and Ford, I'd go Ford. If RAM offered a 6.4 hemi option it would be tough. The 5.7 is an old engine. I do like the look of the GMC at4. If I didn't have a Raptor I would've cross shopped between the f150, RAM, and GMC
I'd go with the Ram, you can still get a very good interior with all the features for like $50k-$60k going with the laramie longhorn or even a laramie, i love how the sport packages look with them laramies and i'd go with that over a limited to save some money and imo get a slightly better looking truck with most of the tech and luxuries from the limited
Rama look nice drive nice and have great interiors there resale and reliable are the worst if you want a nice interior buy a sports car or luxury car their trucks use them to work. This is why there getting so expensive more tech equals more money more issues.
@@torintherrien6472 my ram 3500 dually from 2013 still runs like a dream and I beat that guy up I’m always hailing cows and hay cause I own a farming company and I’ve always gone with ram and they have never let me down
Ford has the best looking truck for sure. Unfortunately none of the can build a lifelong truck anymore. Lucky to get 200,000 miles on these new engines. Just my opinion.
I just sold my Tundra, Bought a 2021 3.5 ecoboost... If Toyota pulled their head out of their ass and refined the 5.7 liter for better fuel economy, My new truck decision would've been quite difficult. Minus the fuel economy, the Tundra is bullet proof and a joy to own. That said, I'm more than impressed with the Ford so far. Excellent truck
@@augustusgloop9330 Well the 3.5 Ecoboost will smoke any V8 on the market, tows more than the 3.0 liter diesels from Ford, GM, and RAM, and gets 20-22 mpg while doing it, I assume you haven't driven the 3.5 liter. Lol?????
I have the same crack in my 17 Raptor windshield ... anyway - I’ve looked at all of them each time I’ve traded over the years and always fell back into Ford (last 4 have been Raptors so really nothing else to look at) ... paid off the 17 in December and have Wildtrak ordered so probably won’t trade (trucks) for a few years but when it happens it’ll be the F150 ... really like the new redesign (minimal outer but great interior) ... just a matter of whether or not it’ll be the Raptor! Great review - thank you!
I agree with you especially on the Titan.. I have a 2016 Titan PR with the 5.0 Cummins.. by far a TITAN MISTAKE. Nothing but trouble since I drove it of the lot.. that is reason why Nissan stopped building the Titan with the Badge that sold me on it.. Cummins engine.. In my location area, the Diesel techs have all left Nissan.. so there is little experienced diesel mechs.. and the emission system only lasted me 23,000 miles before it threw a CEL. Nissan does not warranty a Nissan Diesel emission systems if the state don't test emissions. but truck could still throw you into limp mode for emission issues.. driving on a pray now.
We use one at work. I agree total junk. I hate hauling with it and avoid it like the plague, transmission issues 4x4 issues, no visibility when towing, just terrible, only 80,000 on it too. However we also have a f450 dually that has 220,000 that can just take a whooping and has never let me down. And can tow pretty much anything, oh and you can actually see. I love that truck.
Agree that ram need the 6.4L as an option, I'll be in the market for a limited in the future and am toying with the idea of a whipple, if they had the 6.4 as an option it would be great.
Ford has a V8 available in their f-150s. The 5.0 Coyote and it has 400hp and 410ft-lbs. The 5.7 hemi has 395hp and 410ft-lbs. so if you’re looking for a V8 you don’t have to go with the Ram.
The Ram is superior in many ways when compared side by side and with similar packages. Ram owns the interior and ride quality market. Hands down all it takes is a person to test , in my case, a 2021 F150, Then GMC and finish with the Ram all in their mid level package (respectively) theirs a ton of options especially with Ram and Ford. The Ram bighorn is excellent imo. Ford now hauls more weight I’m told but that means nothing to ninety percent of people as the tow ratings exceed most needs. All three will tow or haul most anything. Some crew members spoke of bad experiences with Ram when I was shopping for fleet vehicles but Ram now on its own has created fantastic trucks and i may be lucky , I’ve never had an issue. My F150 2005 the transmission literally dislodged the first year. They recalled all those trucks on east coast. Fords tend to run longer if you get a good one but fact is I trade mine in every five with a shit ton of miles on them and thirty years later I’ve yet to have any breakdown no matter what brand exception the F150 and it was repaired and ran fine afterwards.
Good review!! I agree with your ratings. The only way to separate the RAM 1500 and the Ford F150, is price. I think RAM is a better deal for now. I prefer the Ford but I think the same optioned truck is about $5k more than a RAM.
You will not regret it .I order the f÷150 limited myself. The luxury combo are insane 18 speakers, the soft seats reclined all the way with massage , best fuel consumption 700 miles per filled up.. ford all the way
Be bold man. We follow you as we see you as the expert. Take a position. Right or wrong, we want to hear the position of the expert. ;-) i enjoy your video. Thanks
When these trucks are 6 plus years old with all that technology inside of it. Gosh the replacement cost is going to cost a pretty penny. Dealership will be making a killing on that they are just waiting.
I resent the acronym meaning fix or repair daily for my F-150. My truck usually goes a few weeks or months before needing to be brought in to the shop. I’d go for the horrible fuel economy because of my short commute and the reliability.
Best truck of 2021 is the 2021 Toyota Tundra. It is the last of an era of true pick up trucks and a legendary V8 motor. From this point on everything is plastic, tiny twin turbos, and luxury electronics you don't need in a truck that cost a fortune and are designed to break shortly after their warranties run out. The 2nd generation Tundra was a true pickup and 2021 truly is represented by it's swan song.
I got a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 5.3L engine 6 speed transmission it is the LT style it has leather seats heated seats back up camera it even has a inverter in the console it's got chrome metal front bumper where all the others have plastic bumpers and the hood is like the one on the 2500 HD truck so this one beats out Dodge and Ford hands down. Great video keep them coming.
Chevy is an ugly looking truck, inside and out. Yes the most important part of a truck is the guts, but if you don’t like the look of your truck too, then you’ll never be fully happy, and Chevy trucks are uglier than sin.
I bought the 2021 Silverado 1500 custom and I’ve drove it for a month and I honestly hate it , the transmission feels so unresponsive , it’s a 4.3 v6 . interior feels so cheap and scratches so easily I have to get into my truck slowly so nothing gets scratched by my boots lol . Steering wheel doesn’t even have a volume control I have to reach over and touch the touch screen all day long and For the big sticker price and how much all the mods are just to make the truck acceptable it just sucks man ... I really regret it
Here's the deal.... The big 3 want a small fortune for these luxury tech trucks yet the warranties stay the same ? They up the up the price, so up the warranty ! It would help people pull the trigger on $60-70-80K trucks knowing the company is behind them 6 years / 100,000 miles bumper to bumper !! LOL.... BTW: This dealer mark-up over MSRP should be fined and laws put in place to make it illegal !!
I own the 2021 tundra limited crew cab. It has the short bed. I didn’t much care for the tonneau cover it came with too damn heavy and clunky. I love the interior space. I hear the new 2022 model is a complete new design on the infotainment with a bigger screen. That’s cool but I like and prefer less electronics. . It’s my first truck and took a but getting used to since my other car is a Range Rover super charged that just flies and I love it too. Tundra is a big truck and big tank and with gas prices it’s makes me wince when I fill it up. I enjoy the ride and it’s smooth. Lots of interior space front and back. I bought it also cause i want to buy a truck bed camper and also haul my food trailer. Neither bought so far as COVID and this year it seems every thing price wise has sky rocketed. But I love my truck
I agree with you 100%. My opinion that is going to be different possibly is I feel the Rams hood, grill and paint colors are starting to feel dated I really like the new 2022 GMC Sierra Dennali.
I have never owned a Toyota, but have owned all the domestic brands and never had a truck that I thought was unreliable. In fact reliability is never even an issue, so don’t understand why people say the Toyota is super reliable. Compared to what?
I just purchased a 2021 Titan mainly for reliability. I will use it for work and I considered the Tundra and F150 but the tundra has terrible gas mileage and the F150 was too expensive for a comparable Titan. GM products are less reliable as a whole sadly because my last three trucks were Chevy. Most important to me is reliability and price so Titan was my choice.
No one is thinking about that. There's really not much you can do to tail lights on a truck without making it look like ur trying too hard. Just keep it simple... Besides, no one in the market for any of these trucks would care about that.
Ram= electrical issues Ford= mechanical/ use Chevy/ GMC= exhaust/ stabilitrac Toyota= RELIABLE mechanically but doesn’t have the hauling/ work truck power
TBH , I would have bought RAM big Horn, if wasn't for the dealership in my country, ( spear parts are Over Priced) it makes you walk away from it. Which made me buy F150 XLT. 2019 in good price. ( 2020 XLT Model is not available). Anyway Great Video though. Keep it up.
No one will ever get the ideal truck ever. For me the top 2 priorities I look for are reliability and fuel efficiency. Everything else can come second or third in my wish list. Interior and techs not a huge priority for me. That's why I wish toyota tundra would at least try to put out a more fuel efficient truck. Like a hybrid tundra. If they come up with that, I'm buying it tomorrow.
Dear followers!! Don't let the beautiful pictures confuse you . Anyone who buys a new car from GENERAL Motors the chance you threw your money into the trash is very large. In this company there is no customer service, the company's management does not care at all, if you have a problem or a malfunction, you can only pray to God there is a chance that the help will come faster. GM is a very dangerous company, be careful and keep your money safe.!!!Share so more people don't get screwed.
Trying to find a solid truck under 40k, doesn’t have to be new. But I need a good truck for commuting in the winters. As a carpenter, I need a reliable truck. Could use some recommendations.
@@kyleruchalski5295 but yet due to mountain towing I still go with the Ford XLT with the 302a package and 3.5 Ecoboost. If not for the towing I would look really close at switching to the new style Ram.
With the American made trucks, all are good brand new. But in the long haul, Chevy last the longest and Chevy/GM repairs cost a little less. The Japanese trucks perform well, last a long time, but expensive repairs. For longevity and costs, again Chevy. I have seen tug-o-wars between different makes and that is fun. But I want 250,000 miles and a truck that will run for 10 years.
Seeing a Toyota pull a massive tow over 600 miles and still going strong after 12 years. No doubt its capable. It's definitely an amazing vehicle. BUT the Ford double cab from 2006 my uncle still owns has 500,000 miles on it. Then my other uncle has a dodge ram with over 600,000 miles. So I'd stick with the tundra or go with Ford.
If you plan (everyone does at first) to keep your vehicle for over 10 years or 100k + miles. Then get a Toyota. If you switch vehicles every few years cause you need some change in your life like me 😆 then get whatever you feel like getting at the time.
You didn't mention that the new Ford's have a hybrid system that can power a work site, camp or a stranded tesla. Possibly even your home in an emergency situation, if your panel is set up for that. Not to mention better mpg than the Rams
The Powerboost Hybrid F150 can do that. Also you can add an input plug to your house and plug your Ford F150 Powerboost Hybrid truck into it and run your house in case of power outage like they had in Texas.
Might want to look into some actual fuel numbers from owners on fuelly. Tundra is with in 3 mpg of the others , so if you account for reliability at all it probably is the least expensive over time with highest resale value. With radar cruise and all that come standard on tundra not sure how behind the times it really is. Considering the other brands have many problems with there cooled seats, or massage features. Personal experience I have owned Ram, Titan and many f150s. The older f150s held up the best by far, but my 2017 and 18 were junk. A quick trip to edmunds reviews by owners basically lines up exactly with my experiences.
With the chip shortage maybe whatever truck you can get at it below list? An imaginary truck is hard to drive & won’t get you where you want to go. Unless you live in Minecraft or in a Roblox world.
