Ok guys I’ve heard from a bunch of you to look at Burro and Toughbuilt. I’ll get those and compare the, to the winner Boro Any others worth competing?

C700 is TB's flagship model if you can get those 👍. A side by side would be cool. Like you, I had plastic ones first of, then got some folding Stanley's that were lightweight but would fall over when you went near them. Splashed out for the TBs and never looked back. I said on another post if mine got stolen I'd replace them immediately. Pretty sure they have a 25 year guarantee also. Those DeWalt ones look nice as you said for a portable option. I'd consider them for putting my portable worktop on, as a lighter option

Personally use Craftsman metal saw horse daily, great for light duty without taking up much space, bring TB-C700 when it's needed.

Suggestion: A video on viewer’s site built sawhorses. A younger guy who worked for me made tripod, collapsable sawhorses. A boot complicated to build, but stable just about anywhere. I’m sure many of the viewers have good saw horse designs. Just give them an address to send photos, notes and designs to, and see what response you get. Might have three or four shows worth.

I would like to see you try the Ridgid 230710. This type of folding style is the fastest easiest, which means I use it more when I should. I currently make my own out of plywood, a set every year or so. It would be nicer to just buy something, preferably thinner profile even then the Ridgid.

ToughBuilt C 700 best dam saw horses ever. Rock solid, easy to carry and store, can carry a lot of weigh safelyy, independent height adjustment for the legs for uneven ground when outside and well priced making it an excellent value. I haven't found anything that comes close.

I have used several of the horses you reviewed. My favorite is the Dewalt adjustable leg. It has the most leg adjustment. I have worked on hillsides that required the full 7” to set level workstations. I can match my workstation height to my tablesaw and chopsaw for out/in feed tables and chopsaw extensions. They store easily in front of my tablesaw in my pickup bed. I also use the Ridgid Fliptops for outfeeds and chopsaw extensions. I’m curious about other options for this function. I find roller extensions don’t work well in the field, given the inconsistencies of lumber. Thank you for the excellent reviews.

@AlexRicketson
@AlexRicketson 7 месяцев назад
You should consider doing lateral load testing for sawhorses. I've heard that's the weakness of the bora set. Vertical weight capacity is much easier to accomplish than side loads. The leg hinges and locking mechanisms are the real test of durability and longevity (for example using sawhorses on unlevel ground with a heavy load). Also, as others have mentioned you should consider testing the toughbuilt saw horses. I have had good luck with them although they are pretty heavy. I love watching your videos and thanks for your scientific approach to testing.

i use the Dewalt folding metal 2 bar horse. Yes you can mount a sacrificial board on them with out drilling . I ripped a 2x the width in-between the the 2 metal rails snug and attach to a 2x6. The 2x6 can be removed. I run mine with 2x6 to cut and 2x6 covered in foam and 2x6 covered in carpet easily removed and swap out.

Great, realistic review. Your criteria made complete sense. I love the Bora XTs. Any polymer will eventually be useless / broken in our northern Wisconsin winters. Bora must have asked for feedback & then their engineers listened and built them accordingly. Solid adjustable legs accommodate uneven ground. Predrilled holes everywhere you need them. They are a bit bulky, but this produces toughness in the truck and shop. Funny that you pointed out getting caught on or clipped by the 2x4 holders on the top ends. Yep, I’ve done it a time or two (twenty?). Not cheap, but worth every penny in durability and usefulness. Usually on sale a couple of times a year.

Nice video as always sir. My favorite sawhorse is the basic steel folding sawhorse with a 4' 2x12 mounted on it. I cut and routed handles that double as clamping spots so they're pretty much a work bench and I usually only carry one. It also doubles as a miter stand for my cordless 10" metabo non-slider when I don't need the big saw and stand on site. Obviously they're bulky so not for everyone but the versatility really seems to make up for how cumbersome they might sound. I am a fan of the plastic folding horses but I do baby them a little bit. I also like my speedhorses but I don't think the gimmick justifies the additional cost with similarly capable horses available for notably cheaper.

I have a folding set of sawhorses and classic set of stacking wooden ones (fine Homebuilding design) - my go too are the wooden set - they set up super fast, don’t damage saw blades, work well with clamps, carry more than enough weight, last a decade outdoors and cost little to make. Yes they take up more room to store but I always find room for them.

I use a Jaw Horse called Triton SJA300XL with the inbuilt vise, i found it's replaced any need for sawhorses, or even a workbench, because it's a all in one system, you may need 2 jawhorses if you are working on very long pieces, for me the clamping aspect makes them superior

Just a tip… I’ve been using Keter folding work table which is about 85cm x 55cm work surface. That is usually enough but when i need bigger table i open another similar table. Even bigger i get when i throw big plywood on top of them. They come with 2 quick clamps which have specific slots in table. Also they have a lower level when you need to keep the table clean from tools.

I have a pair of the Central Machinery horses. Honestly, I’m not sure why I bought them. Like a lot of things, it seemed to be a good idea at the time. They’re not bad. I mean, they do what they’re supposed to do, but they’re not very satisfying while doing anything with them. I also have a pair of Bora Speedhorses. I think they’re an upgrade to the ones you have there. They’re very good, versatile and I like using them. But they are heavy and as I get older, that matters more. Also, if you give the outboard 2 x 4 slots a decent whack into something, they WILL bend. They will. Not very sturdy. It happened to me and I bent them back, but now I’m pretty careful with them.

How incredibly stupid!! I mean seriously DeWalt you guys can’t make that part steel??? I saw that in the store today and it made me furious lol. All the money that company makes it is like a total smack in the face to is customers to do that. Anyways pick up a pair of Huskies they have metal support hinges and they are cheaper than the product that uses cheaper material figure that one out! The Bora horses are garbage for the money, very rickety when set up, they rock way too much. Will not buy again.

@@ConcordCarpenter Bought 6 months ago, rickety from the start and rarely get used because of it. Waste of my $160 The $60 pairs I use are far better.

ToughBuilt C550 for me. Had them over six years. Fitted 18mm ply to the tops.

I have a pair of Toughbuilt C700s (seems like I'm like everyone else in the comments), and they're similar to the Bora XT in this test. Sort of fiddly to put away but pretty robust and versatile. If I had to fold/unfold them everyday going to job sites, that would be tedious compared to the simpler models in this test.

My current favorites are Husky from Home Depot, and Channellock from the local lumberyard. Essentially the same sawhorses with different paint. And very similar to te Boras. They have a 1300-lb load rating per horse, are height adjustable have fold outs to hold a sheet of sheet goods. The tops are pre drilled to add waste boards, and the brackets on the ends are adjustable to hold 2X, 3X, and 4x materials. I have three pairs, four if you count the pair at my sisters house to use on projects there. I’ve built a few different tables to go on them.. I mount 2x8 or 2x10 on the top as the sacrificial surface. The over hang is handy for clamping to. With the DeWalt work stands, you can buy the mitersaw mounts, and mount things to them easily. I have a router table for mine, which is the same height as the table on my miter saw, and I can mount the table next to the miter saw to give a worksurface adjacent to the saw. Re mounting a sacrificial plate on the DeWalt metal sawhorses: Lay a 2x6 on the top, and put some scrap 2X underneath and perpendicular to the bars, and drill up into the bottom of the 2x6 to lock it in place.

My Bora portamate Speedhorse XT has non-slip top and auto drop and lock legs. It’s great

Looks like Bora also makes a more expensive style (Speedhorse XT) which removes the issue of sequential folding of the legs. If that's an issue for you, consider the upgrade (and price).

I just looked at the Bora and while it is a nice unit the wobble would drive me nuts. I do not need a capacity of a 3000lb saw horse but I just bought the stablemate and plan to attach a T track piece on top. Likely I will buy the unit from Bora and cut it to size.

The Boras look like a copycat of the Toughbuilt. I did a lot of research a couple years ago when buying a set and ended up getting two sets of the TB. The feet are adjustable and ability to set the height of each leg independently is great on uneven ground. It also has grip tape on top and pre drilled holes for adding sacrificial timber. They also cannot be carried together as one unit like the Boras. Ive left one pair outside when i had no stotage space, carrying 50 12ft 2*4s coverer with a sheet (a lot of weight). Had no issues. Mine are almost 3 years old and have had a hard life. Paint has started to peel off and some light surface rust but earned their keep and some. My second pair have been looked after better and will last for years. Probably not much between the two brands at the end of the day, very similar from the looks of things. Thanks for tbe content from the UK. Always enjoy your comparisons

I've been really curious about that Bora centipede thing, could that replace sawhorses? I wonder how it would compare in your test.

I used it when it first came out - its ok - awkward and I didnt like the hold downs. The base was solid though

I have a centipede and the dewalt HD and Kreg horses. The centipede for me is best with rigid foam to break down sheet goods.
