Part II of this merch series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-itqWo34pzCQ.html "We Spent $10,000 on Art for Merch (and got RIPPED OFF!)" by Nerd City
The amount of dedication and effort put into this series is amazing, its not only informative but very entertaining. Keep up the good shit! Also hello from new zealand :)
I love how many other creators I respect also love this content. Nerd City is going to be my little hipster "yeah I watched it when they were under a million subs" gem. Respect. P.s. When's the next iDubbbz collab?! 😉🤘
@@stinacorbett2375 I think there will be a part 3 considering what happened in the 10k on merch video that came out a couple months after this one but it'll be awhile because they keep getting on other projects. We were supposed to get a thot patrol video but we got the youtuber lie instead
If I'm to buy merch, I want merch that doesn't have the youtubers name plastered in bold letters. I want something more descrete, so I personally don't feel judged wearing it; I want to see original designs but obscure references, so I can feel proud showing off my knowledge of one's channel, yet not gloating I have X youtuber's merch.
He'll get right on it once the Ricegum money dries up. I'm certain at this point that his new M.O. is to only produce as much content as he needs to to live comfortably.
Nerd is the real hero we need, he's pretty neutral to most people, and makes a lot of friends and hes taught me a hell of a lot about RU-vid and the internet
i’ve always heard of Nerd City but never watched any videos until today, watching the Lele one and this one. how is this channel under 1mil subs? the editing, the visuals, the presentation and format, the characters; everything is so bloody sick. i love it so much
As a graphic designer looking at Jake Pauls Merch makes me sick. You learn how to use clipart as a reference and make your original art. He's got the money for a designer but nooo just steal from the internet
Each one of your uploads is like a birthday present, I'm looking forward to this series progressing. As a novice in the merch operation myself, I really want to learn how to offer a better product, while using a service that still gives me the time to focus on content creation (POD). Or I could just be Jake Paul and sell clip art to pre teens.
A friend of mine was wearing a Teddy Fresh hoodie and I asked if they watched H3. They had no clue who he was. They just liked the hoodie and bought it.
Nerd City is perhaps the best example of Quality Over Quantity thriving on RU-vid, the platform with an algorithm built to discourage that kind of content. Captain Disillusion, Bad Lip Reading, and CGP Grey as well, but Nerd City especially.
I thought the algorithm is mostly in favour of creators who upload consistently and are brand-friendly? Which if you look at it from a business perspective, is da wae. RU-vidrs are similar to employees ( or more accurately called subcontactors ) of RU-vid. Would you call out your boss for being a bully and expect to be promoted?
@@tnttherandomchannel9392 no I'd get them fired or get fired then sue. Thing called workers' rights. RU-vid isn't either of those though. It's a platform that allows others to use it. They make their money by advertising not with hosting videos. They funnel a small portion of advertising money to video makers to encourage them to post frequently and to stay but they are in their legal rights to not give anyone a dime of that money esp since video makers can cut RU-vid out of some advertisement deals with sponsorships. Ya legal have to pay a subcontractor or employee not by the host of a website ya happen to use.
@@Kris-wo4pj Subcontractors don't have the same rights like employees do. I speak from experience. It's simple, RU-vid is not incentivized to promote him and he knows exactly why. 🙂
Agreed! It frustrates me that still, to this day, I can see comments who want Nerd City to upload more consistently. But like you, I'll rather have great content uploaded more occasionally than low quality content uploaded every hour.
I'm sure he will get there, it is so much work, I don't think most people realize what it takes to put out content like this. I agree, quality over quantity, always! Especially when his viewers are likely older and not jake paulers.
I watch your videos the way I would watch an HBO or Netflix television episode, seriously . I go in with high expectations , sit down on my couch to watch it (opposed to most other creators, I’ll just watch on my phone or at work) . The quality is insane, the fact that you can hold my attention for 25 minutes about youtuber merchandise , and make it genuinely interesting, is amazing. Thank you for being someone who actually represents the term “content creator”.
i am angry at Jake Paul for making God Church merch. its so fake and it makes people (like the people in the replies for this comment) think that Christians are Jake Paul fanboy fuckfaces. we are not. Jake Paul is a twat
The huge gap between Jake and Logan's merch is interesting, Logan's is much, much more obviously high quality due rather directly to his ridiculous wealth - Jake has similar wealth, but uses volume of sales rather than quality. Case in point, I would buy Logan's shit as somebody who hates the man, but I would not touch Jake's with a ten foot pole.
@@magicrainbowkitties1023 NGL, even with that forest incident... Jake Paul STILL seems like the bigger asshole dipshit. Btw, RossBoomSocks shouldve been on the list of best merch. I guess because his fanbase does not correline with Nerd City's at all though.
14:10 Yeah, I am surprised to say that I would totally get that jacket if I came upon it in a store and didn't know about Logan Paul. I knew Jake Paul's merch was terrible, I know both Paul brothers are terrible, so I just assumed Logan Paul had the same kind of merch as Jake (just slightly different pictures on the same crap clothing, etc.). Honestly, I think a big help to Logan Paul's merch is the fact he can base it all around a pretty parrot with pretty colors. I like the color scheme and the parrot outline is very basic and just looks like a bird - nothing to do with Logan Paul. Meanwhile, Jake Paul has to come up with designs and ideas himself. That still doesn't address the fabric differences but IDK. Maybe the fact that Logan Paul's merch can actually look nice by utilizing the colors of his bird, with the nice outline of a bird, inspires him to actually spend the money to put those designs onto clothes that are actually comfortable to wear as well.
"You could've borrowed a crayola from one of your fans" I CHOKED. Seriously though, I can't wait for the rest of the videos in this series, I'm very interested in this topic.
The Teddy Fresh brand is a major win imo. I have friends who buy the stuff religiously but have no idea who H3 is but just think it's just a sick brand. That's how you merch
Maybe its because its not merch? Teddy fresh was created by heila klein (dont know if its correct spelling) when she got back from war in her home country. Before h3h3 was big.
@@minuscaseus its like tsuki market by pewds and marzia or cloakbrand by mark and sean i think? They are stand alone clothing companies wich is only related to them because of the owner.
@@spaghettigum maybe you're thinking of the fact that Hila trained in the Israeli army when she was younger? There's definitely violence in the region, but she was never deployed or saw any combat as far as I know.
As an Artist it's really nice to hear about you promoting artist commissions. For some reason people hate the idea of paying for art, thinking it should be free... Because y'know... "It's easy"
Artists are the most under appreciated part of the RU-vid community. They really up the production quality on a lot of our channels and make us look good. I want to return some of those favors in the next episode
@@nerdcity I really appreciate what you guys are doing here. I'm an artist as well who has tried for years now to make a commission based lifestyle, but it's so difficult these days to find people actually willing to put the money out there. As a designer, I'm very interested to see how you guys discuss the artist aspect of things, and who knows, maybe there's places I can advertise my art that I don't know about. Can't wait to see the rest of the series, keep up the amazing content!
To be fair most of the people who think Art should be free are very likely to also think their own art should not be free, because... well they're cunts is what I'm saying.
@@nerdcity Ahh it's so cool to have you reply to me! I can go to sleep happy now. It's almost bedtime in Europe. I've outgrown my Aladdin PJs though :(
I think it's because they focus on making amazing quality content rather than churning out exactly ten minutes of video filled with 60% garbage and 40% sponsor spots
@@nerdcity I wonder where can I find more about your channel and who you people are? Your production quality is levels above 99% of the crap out there. Also -- the actor who plays the devil deserves to be on a show. Dont know where he graduated, but his acting couch/proffessor did his job right! This is the 2nd video of yours that I see and Im already hooked. Great stuff!
Have you seen the Jake Paul video? It´s equally as good if not better, it´s roughly 40 min long and I too saw it a couple of times when it first came out.
The year is 2036.After 17 years Need City releases part 2 describing the process of building a fashion empire and collaboration with top fashion icons of 21st century. In part 3 he will be covering rivalry Zara and becoming #1 in Forbes magazine
Goddamn if you guys aren't masters of this platform. This video is informative, its a commercial for an upcoming merch line AND has a skillshare ad in it...but the whole thing was of the utmost quality and I loved every second of it. Can't wait for part 2.
I'll probably get lost in all the comments, but it never ceases to amaze me, how much work you put in these videos. The costumes, editing, script, research, overall production quality... This channel is truly one of a kind. The quantity over quality thing, when it comes to YT recommendations is so sad. You make fantastic content, but still get dampened by the almighty algorithm (same as Captain Disillusion for instance). Damn, this pisses me off and I can't begin to imagine, how frustrating it must be for you as creators. I really wish you all the best and hope, that things will change for better. I'm hyped for what you come up with, and if releasing merch will enable you to dedicate more time to producing these masterpieces, that would be awesome ^^
Nerd City, I just want to say that you are going to be the baseline for a Renaissance of RU-vidrs. You will be the source of how the next generation of RU-vidrs construct and manage their channels. I'm not sure if you know that, but me and others in your audience are taking notes. And we can't thank you enough for you sharing this advice. Thank you. 😁👏 Not to mention the quality of work. How do you simultaneously set the bar and show us how to cross it? It's astounding!!!
@Yung Peel He's really simialar to Captain Disillusion. He puts in a ton of effort, the majority of the audience acknowledges the effort, but somehow he doesn't grow as much as he should.
@@youaskthedevil I can't imagine who could do that. 😰😌 Hold out though. If the similarities continue, you'll get the recognition out of the blue. And it'll be all the sweeter when it happens.
Yooo Nerd City, I did silkscreen printing for like 5 years and 1000% Gildan is used to inflate price by size/volume. HORRID for bulk orders and their fabric is dogshit. Fruit of the Loom is pricier but better/more fairly priced for bulk graphic orders. IF your printer wont let you look at their print set up, move along.
Atticus - turns out almost everything in my closet that I don’t wear is Gildan. I never drew that connection until I started this and became conscious of the tags
@@nerdcity I forgot Under Armor also makes a blend that is separate from their mainstay fabric--but they usually want a big check for any orders BUT it takes ink very very well and lasts a million years---and that Gildan also has a tendency to discolor like hell when you bake the ink on, so a lot of the time the ink just gets "flashed" on and doesn't last as long as a result. The place I worked for ALWAYS used Gildan for the local schools orders because it's cheaper for the printer to do it that way, and you can usually skim some more cash as a result. The companies and groups that could afford the premium usually got Fruit of the Loom or Under Armor or even Nike or Polo (who also does produce blended fabric shirts for bulk orders, which are very nice).
Thanks for this info. May I ask, How did you guys purchase the shirts back when you were silkscreen-printing? Is there a special site you go to? I'm also super interested in this stuff like need city is currently.
Roman Atwood proudly displays his bulk of 50 Gildan boxes filled with shirts in his vlogs. I don't think he realizes some of the audience knows Gildan is so bad.
@@worldofcyn For large bulk orders you contact the manufacturer by phone, generally. Same goes for the inks and cleaning chemicals. Usually a good place to start is ISS--Imprinted Sportswear Shows. But as an example if you were running a shop and needed some Fruit of the Loom shirts, you'd contact the manufacturer direct to place a large bulk order at a discount. Hope that helps.
If you like unique editing, I can recommend a RU-vidr called brutalmoose. His editing and strange sense of humour make his videos, even if the topics may not sound that interesting themselves.
To everyone that's still waiting, yes, Nerd City is probably going to upload part 2 eventually. A lot of the commenters here have decided that since they've had to exercise patience, that means they're NEVER going to upload another video, but there were huge gaps in between the first tryhards episodes too, to the point where one of my favourite big youtubers even made some sarcastic comment about needing to see it NOW!
@Testicular Space Ship Is it such a terrible mindset to consider? I was clenching my butthole for merchants everywhere because he's basically empowering consumer discernment; he's encouraging the kids to buy mindfully and think about bts processes, that seems practical for mindful and responsible (though he hasn't really covered ethical) purchasing... what do you think about that? Also, education is meant to EDUCATE regardless of form.. Education transforms the thinking process to apply knowledge more intelligently as opposed to 'informing' which can persuade or educate Btw, tell the people who don't have access to proper education your view on it, see how that holds up
I need more youtubers to put in as much effort as Nerd City, because the natural result of that effort is that there is just not enough content to satisfy my appetite.
One of the smartest and best-produced channels on YT. Nerd City is at the same level as that of a Content Cop. When it hits your feed, I drop whatever, WHATEVER I am doing and give it all my attention. Later that day, I watch it a few more times to find the things that I have missed. Nerd City, you are appreciated and a breath of fresh air in an increasingly blah platform. Thank you.
The line you delivered with the Jake Paul mask on is by far the best example of cinematography i've ever seen in this type of vlog-like format. I'm in awe.
NO WAY!!! Let me get this straight: You comment something that is unrelated to the fact that I smell like 100 dead orangutans? Considering that I am the unprettiest RU-vidr ever, smelling like 100 dead orangutans is really incredible. Yet you did not mention that at all. I am quite disappointed, dear pewidepie
yeah, 99% of youtube merch is cringe as fuck. I wouldnt be caught dead wearing any of it. Its like the creators completely lack self awareness as do the people who buy that ugly shit.
This is the greatest channel on RU-vid. Amazing editing, original ideas, amazing explenations, amazing visuals (love the neon lights), real world testing, cool people, dignity.
This is my favourite channel, in terms of getting real information about other youtubers. You all put in so much effort to make others aware of scams and the way online creators work and get money. I’m excited to know more about merch companies and youtubers merch. I watch a select few youtubers (Sean, Mark, and Felix being a few) and I know that they put a lot of effort in what they do, so I’m curious about others and how they do things. So thanks, I guess, for being so honest and awesome with your content.
@@gottesurteil3201 Jake is the one I always see popping up when people talk about any Paul and his hate seems fair when you watch videos that relay all of the stuff he does together, like Nerd City did
This channel has got to be one of my favorite channels, if not my favorite. I’m not one to buy RU-vid merch but I’m hyped to get something from NerdCity. So much respect for your work.
@@nerdcity If you don't start uploading more often I won't unsubscribe to you because your videos are awesome but I swear I will stop smashing the like button. This is my final warning to you.
I feel like any amount a research that gets done for any RU-vid video gets completely destroyed by nerd city every single time. Always quality videos dad.
Alex Johnson Probably that Warren Buffett has quality knowledge that can save a lot of $ to a lot of ppl and is actually willing to share some of it to whoever will listen to it.
Nerd City I would’ve made BIG bucks on Leon Lush. Unfortunately, still waiting for ChrisRayGun and Nerd City to be fully honored for their top tier content. Thankfully you are on an upward trajectory, for sure have more love coming your way! Also... RedLetterMedia has been around for YEARS, making what I think is some of the most consistently funny and entertaining content available, and they’re finally close to hitting 1M. Sorry... I just hate when actually fantastic and original content doesn’t get as much attention/traction as it deserves.
I got my mom some Logan Paul merch (she really likes the bird design) & it was honestly one of the nicest sweatshirts I've ever touched. The inside (which uses warmer & fuzzier fabric that the kind in the outside) still feels brand new after being washed. You can tell he actually cared about the quality of the actual fabrics used unlike his brother.
Everything from the production, to characters like the The Devil, to the educational aspect of what is being presented, everything about this channel is so good. Know that it is worth it. Keep it up.
It's sad that this is one of the only channels left that is actually worth a damn. The research, time, and effort that goes into each and every one of these videos is unmatched. You can tell they put pride into their work, and I hope they are proud of what they create. Hell, I'm proud for them.
OMG this is surreal. I signed up for skillshare because of nerdcity, learned how to edit, made a YT channel and then watched Matt Bellasai's classes on Twitter and now I'm watching him on Nerdcity. That's a full circle!
Hey nerd city, could you maybe do a video on the beauty community? In the sense of the disregard for FTC guidelines, scams, inducing/contributing to cancel culture, ect. Because there's been so much over the years that's been overlooked and NOBODY digs deep like you guys! Hope all is well and can't wait for the new vid coming 💚
This will get buried, but here it goes: I am immensely happy to have found y'alls channel. I've been alternating meds for bipolar and different forms of anxiety and I can't express to you how happy I am to find this community. It may seem small to y'all but seeing the amount of work y'all put into these projects inspires me. I used to make art, I used to make music, I used to be creative.. finding y'all has given me that urge again. I spent 5 years selling art in New Orleans and by the end of it I was very depressed and suicidal. This may sound weird.. but seeing y'alls passion has reinvigorated something in me I thought I lost. I quit art.. got a job I hate and ended a long term relationship with someone because I felt I was holding her back. I don't know why y'all struck me in such a profound way. I love y'all. Please continue! I'm sure I'm not the only one who loves what y'all create. Papa Bless
As someone living in the middle of the woods up in freezing Northern Europe, there's no amazon prime. You wait for anything you order from outside the country two to three weeks at least. Stuff gets stuck in customs and handling that adds a couple days. Post isn't delivered every day of the week so might have to wait for the postage slip to arrive from your local post office. I just ordered a shirt from china and it's estimated to arrive in May thanks to Chinese new years holidays. So only the most impatient fans would have trouble waiting couple weeks for merch.
Honestly I agree. I've had to wait weeks sometimes when I've ordered things on eBay and elsewhere, and unless it just plain never arrived, I was always patient while waiting on it. And this is from a prime member, so yeah. You're right.
