How much is an average salary of an Indian Sadhu... these guys have huge enterprises ... In the west they call it fee and in India they call it DONATION
Anything Indian is not worth attributing to India. This is the way of world. While we keep worrying about if yoga should be introduced in schools, for it might the delicate sensibilities of our minorities. The world will lap up yoga, and reintroduce it in India minus the its real essence. And our future generations will think yoga was developed in the West. Just like we do today for certain concepts in Maths, Science, Medicines and even Arts. We must demand the teachings of yoga and Sanskrit in schools. Delicate sensibilities be damned, we are loosing our rich ancient culture, which we might not be able to revive in a couple decades from now. Parent raise your voice, English is a language that will get our child job, but Sanskrit is the language that will teach our child to grow and mature. Both are equally important. As is Hindi and our Vernacular language ofcourse.
those aerobics are not called yoga , they are called asana and asana are one of the 8 parts of yoga 1.yama 2.Niyama 3.asana(aerobics) 4.pranayam(breathing exercises) 5.pratyahara 6.dharna 7.dhayana(meditation) 8.samadhi yoga is a way of living a life
Yoga belongs to the eternal tradition of Hinduism/ Sanatan Dharma. Most people in the West are peddling Yoga as their own just to make money. Serving the humanity is not their motive.
Sad to say that I agree with you a lot of the time :( I'm a westerner and have been doing various forms of yoga for years, and often turn up to a new class and leave feeling like it was more of a gym class...no focus on the breath doesn't flow nicely, everyone looking at each other and not into themselves, no modifications offered. Of course it's down to you to find a good teacher with good intentions, and when you do it's totally worth it :) Ashtanga yoga is the one for me, using the breath to move you through the sequence, committing to muscle memory once you have learned it, and not having the time or inclination to compare yourselves to others or worry about how you 'look.' Yoga is about anything but how you look, it's a mindset and asana is only 1 of 8 parts of yoga. Shame so many teachers and studios in the west overlook the other 7 ways to practice that are equally, if nor more, important.
How does yoga serve humanity! Through fake gurus like osho who owned 50 mercedes by manipulating his young western hippy followers to attain his supposed version of enlightenment at their expense!
Sunil Thakore Don't say it , it is part of Hinduism/Sanatan Dharma . No one can separate it. It is given to us by our great rishis. They can use it ,but it is ours.
Sick mentality of these people. Yoga is definitely the Hindu contribution. Its also a science that advanced and evolved over years you cant alter its form.
People in the west will never be able to understand what yoga is. It's not some trendy bullshit that you follow until the trend changes. Yoga is an eternal part of sanathan dharma or the Hindu religion as we know it. Yoga is the vehicle to self realisation. Physical yoga I.e. Hath a yoga is step 1, pranayama is step 2, and then you enter the meditative states finally resulting in samadhi. Most of the invocations are to our gods. Surya Namaskar is sun worship, Shambhavi mahamudra is Lord shiva's mudra, every pose has a spiritual significance. You can pick any ancient Hindu philosophy or yoga book and there is a strong spiritual correlation. Also, those that say that Sanskrit does not matter do not really understand. It's like taking the soul out of yoga. Funnily, I am happy more and more people are unknowingly converting to Hinduism. It's just funny that they don't even realise that they are actually praying to Hindu gods and goddesses.
You are authentic. You have called it for what it is. I only add one thing - Hinduism is the worship of false Gods. These Gods have no power over the one true God. Please read the last book of the Bible, Revelation. I'm not trying to offend you, nor devalue what you consider sacred. To fast track I only ask that you read the Book of Revelation. Here is a snippet from Chapter 13, Verses 15:17: "The second beast was permitted to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image would also speak and cause all who refused to worship it to be killed. 16And the second beast required all people small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark-the name of the beast or the number of its name.…" May you find true peace, salvation and eternal life ...
Yoga belongs to Hinduism or Sanatan Dharma and always will be. West is using or blending yoga according to their needs , to which India has no problem with as long as orignal philosophy of yoga remains intact. Yoga is not only just about excercise or postures, its philosophy of soul and achieving nirvana.
Most of the Yoga classes run outside India are for commercial purpose and run as a business. Yoga as taught by Indian Saints and Yogi in India is to connect with ALL MIGHTY GOD and NOT use as commercial property. Please STOP mis- use of Sacred Art of YOGA !!!!

One thing I learnt after watching your great documentary and the cynical comments is... You express what you are whether it is through crazy yoga poses or through the lazy comments. Yoga defintely gives you a mental resolve to ignore or even laugh at cynics and continue your journey of being yourself.
Is being yourself ignoring and laughing at others; what about humility, and entertaining the possibility that one may be wrong. Ignorance is birthed when one chooses to ignore. At times it is best to ignore; at times it is best to listen and respond.
Yoga means being truthful ,leave ego but westerners will nvr ever understand yoga , sweating out can't be called yoga , yoga is integral part of sanatna dharma ,defined in bhagvat gita and types of yoga
yoga is owned or has its roots tied to dharmic vedic hinduism. this is a fact and the more you change it or give it a different lable then you drop its benefits. its for everyone and i believe this. yes i think it matters that the historic aspect of its roots are appreciated and mentioned. cheating and stealing defeats the purpose and goes against what yoga is all about.
One day West world will commercialize humanity and spirituality. In nature old doesn't means outdated, it means most wisdom. West yoga is just a exercise, it will end when you stop practising. But with real yoga, wisdom and mindfulness will remain whole life even if you leave. You will remain in peace.
The whole premise of this is absurd. It is like asking who owns the "lay-up" in Basketball or the "overhand serve" in Tennis. This documentary just scratches the surface of superficial yoga shala owners without really looking at the deeper roots of yoga and Asana. Why not a documentary on Krishnamacharya who without him, yoga would have most likely died out? And who taught out of his humble home charging very little.
yoga is not related to any religion it is for each and every human being...but it should given recognition to hinduism as it was orignated in india and whole world adapted it...even kungfu was taught and spread by an indian name "BAUDDHI DHARMA" in china....so recognition is important...we should not forget its roots in hinduism where it is orignated...and whole world should respect and be thankfull to hinduism proudly...✌😎
Guys Yoga is not only shaping your body in different postures.. It is ultimate process of connecting body with mind.. The spiritual part they have been ignoring and making it sport in not so good on my personal view, with in some generation we will miss the spiritual parts from it.
yoga doesn't teach about competing each other....what they r doing is just upyoga (physical exercises)...and not the real yoga...west has commercialised yoga...sad...!!
what nonsense is this Boxing yoga, rocket yoga, red yoga, dog yoga, hot yoga and what not...West has made a mockery of yoga....Dont know anything about the real essence of yoga....i can only laugh after watching this....
it's a total disgrace. Ripping off a traditional practice, putting a price (yoga alliance is a joke) and selling it as a life style, or a work out or whatever.. . Just like what they did with transcendental meditation. As westerner myself, I don't fit with this mentality.
Every religion promotes spiritual practice so what is wrong with that. And why its hard for us to accept the truth that Yoga came from Hindu philosophy...
India is the birthplace of not only Yoga but also fundamental Mathematics, Astronomy, Astrology etc. Mathematics for example went from the Hindus to the Arabs and then to the West and was further developed. Does that mean India owns Mathematics ?? No. Knowledge is for everyone. Infact many of the mathematical formulas like the Pythagoras Theorem and the Fibonacci Sequence were long known to the Hindus and have been wrongly claimed and taught today. The Hindu way of counting has been adopted by the west without any religious connotations. Then why Yoga ?? Yoga is a science of well being.
That lawyer helping with fighting yoga was just adorable. “It is scientifically proved that just doing those postures can lead to enlightenment.” First of all, enlightenment is not a scientific concept. Science cannot investigate it. Second, if it were that simple, every one of us would be enlightened by now, so don’t talk b***s**t. Third, do you even know all the postures and movements that exist in yoga? I’ll give you this: even if there were poses that directly lead to enlightenment, fear not: you CANNOT do them. Lastly, you say the whole thing as if enlightenment was bad for you; do you even know what that word means? And that patent, of course.
I am so glad that Bhanu has done this article about Yoga. I started my yoga journey in 2018, I completed my yoga training and teach or should I say guide classes. It’s such a complex pondering, but there is an underlying truth. And thee are so many interpretations. But there is one truth to know your mind. Thanks again for presenting the different views and manifestations. It has helped me stay on the path.
India was colonised for 1000 years .The British found the hindus in superstious darkness. They brought their ancient texts to the modern world.Modern hindusm ,inculding its practice in india is a british invention.Anyway many Indian gurus are also making some good bucks.
nobody owns yoga, but ya it has its roots in hinduism. it is perfectly secular, sun salutation is not about the sun, dog pose isn't about any dog, diamond posture isn't about diamonds. yoga helps us calm down and with a calm n healthy mind your efforts in any religion will be supported.
Patanjali sutra which is shown in the very beginning of the documentary (0:15 - 0:21) is written with several mistakes. I mean the devanagari (sanskrit).
Ajay, in my post I had indicated the timings 0:15-0:21 (starting from the 15th second and till the 21st second). Take a look at the sūtra. Letter "i" in "citta" is in the wrong place. Virāmas are not required there. But even if you use them they are put in wrong places. The sūtra should be योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः
haha haha i could not stop laughing the world is more ignorant to yoga, see how some one show rocket yoga haha, hilarious west, dont treat yoga as twisting your body and a competition of twisting, exercise is just a fraction of yoga, when it comes to ownership, the world owns it .
I am a Indian n i believe nobody owns yoga. But i just believe if you wanna do something - then do it right...don't forget the roots. Its not about religion its just about the way of life.... you can transform it if you want but don't teach false practices for monetary gains. Otherwise do exercises they are equally good. I do them all the time with yoga separately and Enjoy! nd Pl'z don't make it a fight a request to all. We are a peaceful nation and let us spread peace around the whole world with YOGA!
Yoga is being aggressively campaigned over here in the West; in schools, the work place, etc. A famous Yogi said: There is no Hinduism without yoga and no yoga without Hinduism. Yoga literally means, to yoke. Yoking oneself to Hindu gods. So, what I understand is this. Hinduism is the worship of false Gods. If only people would research stuff instead of doing what "feels good" today. The happiness factory is alive and well. Yoga does not promote peace. Real peace is not the absence of conflict ...Real peace is not retreating into your own universe, but actually knowing the one who created the universe and who has all authority in heaven and earth. He is known as the Prince of Peace. His name is Jesus Christ. Do you know Him?
+firstbornjordan Dear Jordan, yes Jesus is the real God....but some call him Allah...some call him Krishan...some call him..Guru Nanak. ..some Gautam Buddh etc. The names and ways are different but s/he is one and the same. When we fight about religions and gods....for one we are the biggest fools as in one and all resides God...and its actually the ego nothing beyond that. God bless you...Aum/Om.
Diana highly appreicable for the kind of broad mindedness you hold. Kindly preserve it for your entire life if possible. May Allah shower his praise on you. Aum/Om
Dear Jordan, I think you haven't practiced Yoga yet. I advice you to do it for a month and then comment- Is there some connection with peace or not. Nd if there isn't any connection then at-least don't bring religion to it brother. I love Jesus Christ, I respect,...so as the other Gods in all parts of the world. All religions are equal. Just like you said--that Hindu fellow promoting Hinduism through Yoga. I ask you what are you doing. What are you trying to say in your comment. You sound like the same Hindu fellow to me who is promoting an absolute God.
Why do you advise me to practice Yoga? I advise you to seek after wisdom as for gold. If you truly love Jesus have nothing to do with idols. Jesus is the absolute truth. All other worship other than worship of Jesus is worship of false God. Worship of Jesus includes belief and obedience of and to, His teachings. So now, why do you advise me to practice yoga? Jesus loves me and gave His life for me. Why would I worship false Gods in return? "He has given me everything pertaining to life and godliness."
bc u hv reduced d importance of yoga by making it competition..yoga is nt about competing with each other in making diffrent body postures bt a tool to search within and remain healthy
+2006minesh u don't have to insult someone if they are wrong u can just correct it. if u think namaste should be used only in the beginning thats ur fault, there is no such rules for namaste like in case of maths
Jagadeesh bikkasani Namaste Jagdeesh bhai. People need to learn and learn properly, especially the western world. They continue to take indians for granted, this must stop and stop NOW. I will not tolerate ignorance when it comes to my culture. Aav jo
+2006minesh I do not take indians for granted using namaste at the end of a sentence. I know it is used both at the end and the beginning of a sentence. It is interesting how emotional you are regarding words I have written. Perhaps you should be practicing more of patanjali's eight limbs, ahimsa being the first.
Yoga is given to benefit the humanity. Don't worry about how it is being used by different people. Better each one of us practice some kind of yoga 20 mins a day. That is most important. Forget about any discussion on it.
Be open minded to however yoga manifest itself if people want to compete in yoga let them do that if you don't want to compete don't compete if you want to do a sports bootcamp style of yoga that's fine if you really want to do a philosophical spiritual type of yoga that's fine too
I remember once at kumbh mela some Australian girls also got naked and wanted to imitate the naga sadhus, when they were stopped they protested for being discriminated.
So if yoga is performed with christan scriptures its secular??a hindu is so open that he could pray with christan scriptures but the christans couldn't accept the hindu form.the amercans will decide what yoga is.
when i started watching this documentary my heart starting crying cause i love yoga and here people started clamming that its just belongs to them and started copyrighting it its a problem of capitalistic mindset but when i think that i had also this notion that yoga is just an exercise but its not actually its a really effective way to mediate with physical movement that put in wonderful awesome ego free state so when you start doing that for consisted period of time it start showing its effects and it will change you no matter how you starts it will show its effects and you really wanted to know what what is yoga ? and you dig deeply to its root so no matter how you start doing it whether its boxing voga rave whatever the name people has given it once you reach to state when you start feeling it you yourself giving respect to it and start looking for its pure form yoga is not belong to any one its universal its for everyone.....
Mantra One īśāvāsyam idam sarvaṁ yat kiñca jagatyāṁ jagat tena tyaktena bhuñjīthā mā gṛdhaḥ kasya svid dhanam TRANSLATION Everything animate or inanimate that is within the universe is controlled and owned by the Lord. One should therefore accept only those things necessary for himself, which are set aside as his quota, and one should not accept other things, knowing well to whom they belong.
PyroelectricMonk no ,lord krishna was a yogi himself we call him yogeshwar.but mahadev had given yog to the world that's why we call him yogishwar. And yes i am a master degree holder in yog so you can trust me fully.
And word of caution to anyone reading: please ensure you are learning classical forms of yoga from a trained/ knowledgable teacher e.g. Gheranda samhita, hatha yoga, shiva samhita etc. including any of the meditative postures, pranayama etc. These postures and practices have developed over the last 5000 years and you do not understand the implications of these poses or breathing techniques. If you don't perform the posture as intended wi an expert watching over you could do severe damage to yourself! 'Nuf said
Then that says it all. If one wants to truly know God and the truth, why would a loving God risk you being damaged? I suggest people Google: The Dangers of Yoga, or Yoga Deception, or Origins of Yoga. 5,000 years means nothing if it's down the wrong path.
I am amazed how people are announcing Yoga ripping apart its very essence of letting go of EGO. Denying its roots, integrity and claiming to own is very much giving breath to EGO. Depicts a shallow and commercial mindset. Its like eating Pizza belonging to Italy and calling it burger....though pizza belongs to all but has roots in Italy! Practising Yoga certainly DOESN'T change anyone's religious orientation as its a mental empowerment approach to life which is universal..working with humans, letting go of ego...above all religion..simply a very intelligent system!
This isnt yoga anymore, just a competition and when u r competitive there is no peace at heart n mind n soul. Yoga and every other arts sud be uniting each other thru the beauty of the art. Now adays every thing becomes a competition Sad to see yoga in it...
no wonder yoga is finding the way in our lives in whatever form approachable no 2 people nor situations are afterall the same rather than the differences, we should look closer, without a judging veal, at the things which truly unite us life, mind, spirit, love
Well commercialising of yoga has already happened! Not limited to Boxing yoga#Rave yoga##Yoga Rebels# Rocket yoga# Cycling yoga# Naked yoga# DDP yoga# and even Yoga in court it appears! The list goes on. True, yoga does not belong to anyone, but, has anyone asked why this question is being brought to the surface in the first place.? A comment by a leading Guru during this video simply states that yoga can be likened to a "Garland of Flowers”. Anyone can do what they will with the flowers, however, it is the STRING that holds this all together that needs to be seen. It is this string that has held together and orchestrated what is the flowering of yoga over hundreds of years. At least those that use it for a commercial enterprise were honest enough to say so here (some). I thought that the interviewer had the perfect personality to draw the best from all interviewed.
Duffer in video says that I want yoga to be secular. He fails to understand simple words said by sheetal *yoga for everybody with hindu roots* . Its not haj pilgrimage that u need to convert for that. It is as simple as that.
I am Gholamreza-Assadzadeh, CSIS Chairman Senior Security CIA/MI6 of Canada and Security Minister of Islamic Republic of Iran, I enjoy to watch your chanal.
Ha ha.... YOGA is Not A sport .And this is disgraceful, Could not bear to watch past 7 min .Thank god most of these poor yahoos will fall away and find new distractions /entertainments and lets hope they may all find truth . trends come and go yoga is eternal. and the faithful record of yoga can only be found in India .the world owes India a huge debt of gratitude.
yoga was a box filled with some great stuff!! over time the items of that box were lost, stolen, forgotten, contorted! what remains today is merely the box! the box is not yoga my friends..I hope you will seek true yoga! when your seeking is true, genuine and pure..yoga will happen effortlessly!! best wishes and greetings!!
Buddhism and Yoga are connected Buddhism is not a religion it's an education, Yoga is an Art and not spiritual both these two when practice will bring health and benefits to our body and mind peace will all be in you
Yoga FLOWERED under Hinduism, however it is far older than Hinduism, or any other religion. It is NOT a religion. People in India are quite aware that yoga is not a religion. Westerners are just often mixed up. It is typical for them to take some of this and some of that and make their own pot-pourri.
17:08 hinduism is secular 19:40 cristian yoga is pointless and blasphemous in itself Yoga means to yog /unite with god and i think ,well isn't it blasphemous in cristianity 21:00 what's wrong in thanking sun !? Every ancient culture had sun god not jesus or allah in it And life on earth is possible due to sun presence why is it bad to thank sun god for it !? 32:24 at this point i realised that American only care about capitalism they don't care about fitness or value Yoga was invented in india by patanjali and adi yogi
before you ask a question like "who owns yoga" try to first answer the fundamental "what is yoga" because what this video showcases is definitely not it!!
All those people who do wrong yoga postures, can have side effects of it... Yoga belongs to the humanity and not to a single person or organisation or religion
+Crank Stabheart It belongs to humanity, but it is associated and given by and with Hinduism. Why is that the world tries to appropriate everything which is non-Abrahmic ?
blue123456ization I didnt get your question about non abrahmic religion, can you reframe it? I do agree that yoga came out of Sanatana Dharma aka Hinduism. I think people take relligion very seriously, like the people who had changed yoga according to bible which is stupid... People must understand that Hinduism is not a religion, although now everyone thinks it is and also religion is a western idea... Hindus dont have a particular god infact we have crores of gods, just imagine the level of understanding and tolerance we have because we understand that different personalities of Gods aid different personalities of Humans
Yoga belongs to sanathan dharma and mother India. The depth of philosophies centred around this is deeply rooted in "Hindu" ethos. I am happy to say that it is India's gift to mankind. But, saying yoga doesn't belong to anyone is like saying Christianity does not belong to Christians. The postures, meditation, pranayama have developed from philosophy that has evolved over the last 5000 years. Just because the west likes it, it does not mean we can strip out the Sanskrit, philosophy, religiosity to make it convinient for the west.
metalandbeer666 if yoga is hindu then gravity is jewish... everything is just out there, we are not the inventors nor we create anything, we just find ways of making things happen
Super interessant. Die Welt ist rund und "der" Yoga ebenso. Keine Ecken und Kanten er sollte für jeden Prakdizierenden im gelebten Moment fließen. Yoga Padma Übersee am Chiemsee
These people are playing with fire. The Art of Yoga and it's system is not a game to be played with. You can screw yourself up really badly with incorrect movement and breathing.
God revealed to Joshua in the Bible: "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” People choose to find truth and light and peace from "within". The answer is not within. Otherwise everyone is wise in their own eyes and truth is subjective. The answer is with Christ, the "Prince of Peace" who is the "Lamb of God" who takes away the sin of the world." He (Christ) is the "Alpha and Omega", "The Beginning and the End", the "First and the Last", "The way the truth and the life"; the only way to the true and living God, who "declares the end from the beginning". That's right, all prophecies in the Bible will be fulfilled before the end of the world, and no prophecy is in dispute. 100% correct. We will not be able to say we did not know what was to come (judgment) when we stand before God on that day. First, "the law came through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." First, Jesus comes to seek and to save mankind. Second, "he will come again judge the world in righteousness. (1. Love and Mercy; 2. Justice and Righteousness) Repent and believe for the Kingdom of God is at hand.
