One of the reasons why I related to the song so much. I was born and raised in the Philippines until I moved to US at 17, but the kicker was that I was adopted. My father is white and my nanay is Filipino so when I was taught English I had an American accent. And with my complexion being lighter I could never really feel like I belonged. Kids would make fun of me for being able to sound so American I would even be asked " How long are you visiting?" "Where are you really from?" "Hinda ka Filipino, Kano!"
