I love how all the Salamanca have this aura. They are demoniacal figures, all of them, but different in each way. Tuco is the incarnation of rage and chaos, a fiend of destruction. The twins are the mute, unstoppable force of retribution and vengeance and Lalo is the Devil in disguise, the smiling evil, a true Mephistopheles.

Lalo used the alias Jorge de Guzman, and had an extensive tunnel under his house. El Chappo, the infamous cartel boss known for his tunnels is also J. Guzman.

El Chapo 'guzman' first work was under the man named 'hector palma' Then later founded his own cartel. May be lalo is not real salamanca, and will dissasociate himself with salamancas after revenge to find his own cartel, anyway after death of heisenberg and with downfall of all the cartel there is vaccum which if he survives, can fill

I think the entire show & casting is superb, Mike was always my fave (& Jimmy) but Lalo really played it like he was truly affiliated with the cartel. A great great show
It might just be his attitide but *SPOILER* when he gets arrested and bail is set at 7 million , he seems completly content spending that money. That's nearly 1/4th of his total net worth according to this video. I am pretty sure he is worth much much more than the author illustrates

His delivery of 'I can do that' screams 'rough, but not the end of the world.' Plus the man is cool as ice, I can definitely see the numbers stated to be pretty on point.
To be honest it's amazing for me that on desert with Walter and Jessie Saul mentioned Lalo there - i would never though that we would see him all this years later.
The cousins were well cast. All of them had an edge of crazy from the out there crazy of Tuco to the robotic focused crazy of the twins to Lalo's just under the surface dangerous crazy. Definitely high points in both series.
Just based on the way he presents himself and his charm and intelligence, I imagine in the starting up days, he hustled just as much. Would be so cool to see a early on version of this time line lol. Focus on the cartel

EDIT: As someone else ( Luis Vargas) has said below it's definitely a nod of respect to the Sopranos and Juan Bolsa is obviously the Spanish of Johnny Sack.
Hector doesn’t feel entitled as much as he feels that he and his family have more than earned their stripes over the years. Hector himself did 17 years in the can, and we have nothing that indicates that Bolsa or Eladio ever did.
Fun fact: in English, Salamanca means "cave, grotto, or other dark place" like a grave for instance. A pretty fitting name for a family of death dealers.

Sadly we don’t, that would have been one of the most interesting scenes, just to see how they would act around each other. Definitely Lalo would be the leader, I can see him butting heads with Tuco, but ultimately tuco would accept him being the leader because of Lalo’s charisma and I’m pretty sure he’s the oldest cousin
Lalo knows about the Santiago incident. Either Lalo was a young lieutenant who participated in the incident or more likely his father X Salamanca was there along with Hector in the fight. Lalo's father probably survived the encounter as he is not so bitter about the outcome. Yet Hector is really not happy about that history in South America and uses is as a way to discredit Gus whenever he can. It is possible that Gonzo is married to Tuco's sister. Joachin Salamanca seems like a underling with no rank as he seems to be posted as a bodyguard/enforcer when killed by Jesse in the gunfight. Gaff is also possibly an in-law as he is trusted to monitor the family business in New Mexico once Tuco is killed. With all this information will Vince Gilligan decide on another prequel answering the Salamanca questions with a new cast of young actors?

Lalo also plays a very important role in the movie "La dictadura perfecta" (The Perfect Dictatorship) as the powerful chairman of a TV channel that even controls the President of México... it would be good to know how much is worth it there ; )

You know at the end Lalo forced assasin(the last alive one) to say his employer the job is done (but gus heard the voice of gunshot when the gunmen came in and killed juan bolsa so he was certain about bolsa) So gus thinks lalo is dead and he either warns don eladio (And it's impossible because if it happened eladio would lose his respect to lalo and also he would investigate it himself and link this betrayal to fring and prepare for a war with gus) So he either went undercover and started to a peaceful life or he tried to deal with gus without eladio knowing(I explained the reason)and got captured or killed

interesting that, in Breaking Bad, when Walter starts dealing with the White Supremacists, we also have an uncle/nephew dynamic between the characters Jack and Todd. something Shakespearean going on here with the recurring motif of uncles usurping the role of father. Walter, although not an uncle exactly, also usurps the role of father in Jesse's case, and Hank, although not exactly a usurper, takes on the role of father figure to Walter Jr. and Holly. i guess breaking bad isn't just the impetus for losing one's family, but also the means by which we try to artificially bolster it. Walter is constantly justifying his misdeeds as something he does, "for his family" and, to quote one of my favorite scenes, in the words of Hector Salamanca, "familia es todos." it's not money they're after--not really--it's the preservation of their legacy and claim to the role of patriarch. "i'm in the empire business," says Walter. and the things that keep these crime families going always seems to look like life support. Walter is literally dying of lung cancer, Hector is wheel chair bound, their conditions allow little hope for recovery, only extension, just as we know the White family is doomed and only temporarily subsisting on Walter's lies, just as Hector's family is systematically killed off. Tuco, the Twins, Gus, Jack, and Walter keep on fighting although bullet ridden, as though imbued with some super human ability to persist slightly passed the point of death. maybe it was just the meth keeping Tuco alive, but maybe that's also the purpose of meth in this narrative aside from just a plot device: something that keeps us artificially vital even as it speeds us toward certain demise. everyone's living on stolen time, in stolen families, neither of which will ever truly belong to these characters, all they can do is hold on a little a longer, or until the holding crushes.
We need a series called "El Juego" spanish for "the game" since those involved in the cartel are mentioned as "being in the game" and telling the story on how the cartel in the Breaking Bad universe started

I've heard estimations that Gus Fring's net worth was most likely around $800 million to $1 billion dollars. He was just entering the final stretches of setting his organization up for good. He had a plan to get rid of the Salamancas who he hated (but also competed with) with a top secret superlab run by a chemist he had been grooming for years to do this, he had the international connections with people who he made partners in exchange for industrial lab equipment, he had a fast food chain that was the perfect logistical network to sell his "real" commodity and to do it secretly -- when it comes to Breaking Bad he really was only alive to see this lab that was his life's work produce only a partial refund on the overall investment he had spent in the lab but if it was allowed to run without any complications a la Walter White killing him and destroying it, he most likely would've started to see the bulk of his fortune grow and grow with each new batch the lab produced. And Walt never had a chance to get anywhere near that level of sophistication. The one thing Gus had that Walt didn't was time, besides the obvious interest in becoming a drug kingpin at a much earlier age than Walt. Something Walt by the end probably resented like "If only I got started sooner" or so he might tell himself.
I wouldn't go that far to be honest because then absolutely nothing makes any goddam sense in the show with that amount of money + his resources he could have set up 50 labs with 50 different ivy league chemists. One of the bigger problems with breaking bad and better call saul is they didn't understand the drug trade or pricing or the scale of things everything is shrunk down to laughable amounts that people are paying waaaaaay to much for, like no one was paying 30k for 1 pound of meth even in 2005, 1 pound of meth is not wholesale but obviously everything needed to be shrunk to make the story work and to not have a million side characters but its also why the numbers dont make any sense for anything and its fucks with the story because by the time breaking bad takes place Mexican super labs had already began to displace american cooks and cocaine was flowing into the US in unimaginable amounts as this is during the reign of BMF who were moving tonnes every month as well as the floes twins who were moving hundreds of tonnes so its just one of those things where its hard to gauge just because its impossible to make it make sense
@@jorgenoname6062 You don't understand the biggest problem beyond that though. You can't just go like set up a hiring post for people willing to cook clandestine drugs. Gus groomed Gale. Walt just showed up and happened to find him in an alternative way. He also couldn't afford to set up that many labs, either. You know how much it cost him to set up the superlab? Hundreds of millions of dollars. Secretly. Transporting engineers from Germany and making sure they were not only willing to play ball, but willing to stay confided in the secret place until it was done. That one alone was probably half of his money at the time.
Am I the only one who was ever so slightly disappointed by how Lalo died? This guy was untouchable one his own against groups of killers let alone one man, albeit a very clever one. Should've had Mike save Gus and kill him in my opinion. But legendary show nonetheless.
ok at 7:29 i know lalo went in mexico to lay low, but after what happened. i highly doubt he'll stay in mexico. and in the next season of better call saul imo he'll very very likely head up north again to go after nacho and gus.
the thing to bear in mind with the salamancas and indeed the cartel is we only see their dealings in new mexico.now prior to hectors stroke lalo and probably the twins were running the mexican side of the operation we know from saul that he was running sonora and probably other places so a lot of the drugs were never sold in alberqueque but down south.we also dont know if they supplied other places or countries selling to the buyers down south and letting them make their own arrangements to ship it to wherever like the u.k or europe.they may even ship to other places in the states but again only as suppliers so all that money has to be considered.
Lalo is a smart man. Lalo's look is v similar to Pablo Escobar. His courtroom and bail alias list him as De Guzman, the family name of El Chapo. I think Lalo will call upon Kim's services as he's seen she wears the trousers in her relationship, and Kim will put her plan of bringing down Howard (and S&C and Mesa Verde) by setting them up in some kind of bank transaction, to Lalo as she realizes, he is the only one man enough for her and do to this plan. She and Lalo will run off together to either Monte Carlo (like Lalo's car) or to The Caymen Islands as per her suggestion to him. They fake their deaths, which is why they are both out of BB, but Kim is still in contact for the time and date of the phone call Saul asks Francesca to take.

I thought there was a call out to Lalo in Breaking Bad somewhere, so he is still alive right? Isn't that the reason Saul Goodman went into hiding because he heard Lalo was back? (Cinnabon hiding)
I think you underestimate their share. Gus was only getting share from distribution, transportation costs and cutback for cartel were far higher and outright dead-cost for him. Salamanca's on other hand control both sides of the trade, they got the drugs, moved the drugs, distributed and sold them. So I would argue they have to cut back less to to cartel and likewise money spent in distribution, transport and production is not "cost", different family members were each earning from those different activities.
He may be a bit of a ruthless psychopath, but I imagine that those who are wise enough to keep themselves on good side of Lalo Salamanca probably couldn't know a better friend.

Lalo is one of my favorite in Better Call Saul. Though I find it detestable that he killed that husband/wife at their farm after the assassination attempt against him failed. They respected him and he did it just to use the body as a double for him to make people think he was dead.
Gus clearly doesn't believe Lalo is dead in BCS currently. That contradicts how in BB Gus is confident the Salamanca family is gone. The only way to solve the contradiction is something to happen that makes Gus believe Lalo is really dead.
reasons believe Lalo is a Salamanca by blood rather than association is when he tells the story of Hector killing the teacher when he brings him the bell the way he tells the story makes it seem like there's more to this than a mere henchman who wins promotion then adopts the Salamanca name. and 2 the lesson Hector taught the twins about family being everything breaking bad S3 E7.
The cartel feels really small when compared to real life cartels. I mean 216 million in a year? Isn't that what some cartels make in some months? I might be wrong though
