If you've got an older Tyros or SX model and are wondering if you should upgrade to a second hand Genos - here are my thoughts. (for what they are worth).
I just got a used Genos for a decent price month before news of G2. But I'm happy with the purchased. Astonish by the style, sound and many feature to explore!
Hi Leigh. Thank you for the context. Excited to see what the new generation delivers for the budget. Hoping for an updated Rotary Effect found on the newer Yamaha synths and stage instruments.
Great video. The depth in the tones you showed was really good. I’m in between the montage, the genos and the fantom. I have trouble finding music shops where I can try them here in Norway. I have a little studio, and my Yamaha S90 got ruined this summer so looking for something to replace it. Thanks for getting me a impressionof the Genos.
I also have a fantom 7 and because Roland’s samples haven’t moved on they instrument sounds very 80s and not much more. Shame really because it’s beautifully made. Just needs some new voices that don’t sound old.
I just bought a brand new one for a very good price and switched from my T3. Being a pro for almost 20 years I don't really care for what new model would have to offer. After owning Genos for a few weeks I decided to keep it. I can say that it is everything I could ever wish. The ONLY thing I would like to have is seamless transition. But I also can live without that easy...
Hi Leigh, just to say thank you for all the hard work you put in showing us what Genos can do. You said that you would keep your old Genos if you purchased the new Genos 2, l am thinking the same but would like to link both together, would this be easy to do as I'm not very knowledgeable with midi.
Hi Leigh I have a Tyros 5 but awaiting the arrival of the Genos 2 and upgrading, I'm also am thinking of getting the Korg Pa5x as a second keyboard and linking them together, but apparently the system is a whole new learning curve so it might just be the Genos 2 that I will get. BTW the video's that you are putting up are very informative.
It'd be cool if they added the after touch feature to have more control over vibrato for example, however I am not sure if this element is characteristic of arranger keyboards.
A million thanks for getting into the sounds without spending the first %80 of the time telling us just how good the piano sounds are. I have often replied to posts "If I wanted a piano I would buy a Steinway not an arranger workstation." I had a Genos for 26 days and sent it back. Too complicated with the touch screen at that time. I still have my Tyros4 and an SX700 (sent the SX900 back for the same reasons). and my PSR S970. The main problem I had (and still have with the SX) is that the registration bar on the top of the screen is too small for my fingers. I have to use a rubber pointer. Genos now?? Too heavy and too big to cart around. Ninety per cent of the people I play for would not know the difference between a Genos or my SX700. Thanks for posting your demo, most enlightening. Regards, Dennis.
In fact the SX 700 sounds amazing even my old PSR 9000 is fantastic and that thing is over 20 years old! Its in fact the musican that counts not the intrument
Hey thanks for the video. I love your Channel. I was also wondering do you know if there is an autoharp voice available for Yamaha Genos anywhere? I would love to use one for country music.
great channel! signed up! with great pleasure! think that I had Tyros 1, Tyros 3 and lastly the Tyros 5 and to save money at Christmas I got the used Genos from the shop! and it really makes a difference! compared to the old models! then we'll see if I'll move on to Genos 4! warm greetings from Italy Richi Riboldi
Hi Leigh, can you tell me what you were playing? It’s really familiar but I just can’t place it. Those expansion strings are fantastic btw, some of the nicest I have heard. 👍
One thing I would like to see on the yamaha Genos 2 is Auto-Change Registration performance track, like what the ELC-02 Organ has. Even the old EL900 had that feature. 😀
I have a MODX 8 and a PA700. I would leave the MODX8 on my desk but thinking about the GENOS... And this usually means I might buy a used one. New ones are SOOO expensive :( typical. Once I have extra money I don't have anymore :)
I went into a big music store in Halifax and their branch in Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada, just about a year ago and I had to tell them what it was. Another store in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia had never heard of it. So I wonder what the chances are they will have a second hand Genos for sale? It's a good bet anyone, private or store, will still want the price they paid for it.
Thanks for this Leigh. I do hope you are correct about an abundance of Genos being for sale when G2 appears as I’m on the cusp of acquiring a second hand one. Although from recent enquiries it seems 2 1/2 K is the going rate for sellers. 😢
Just sold mine after 5.5 years… including the speakers and the Gator case. I put an order in for the Genos 2 and will hopefully have it right before Thanksgiving! 🦃 🎹 I also have a Genos at church… won’t upgrade that unless there is something I can’t live without.
Yeah, Tyros 5s are a bit rare second-hand, so Genos might be "hens teeth," especially at a justifiable price. I bought my T5 with a very rare 2GB expansion ROM for $3,200 8 years ago and can easly get that now, so a Genos is going to plateau at about $4K. I just want to know if I'll miss anything by selling my T5. I didn't sell my PSR-s950 after acquiring the T5 because it had sounds i use that the Tyros didn't. Ugh Edit: Where have you seen a Genos for $1,700!? Can i be placed on some mailing list for when you see that again!?
From time to time I think about this, but I gave it up, to imitate a big orchestra. So the Tyros 3 I have is perfect, a Genos wouldn't do a better job.
If that is what you think, you should find a mate who has one and ask for if he/she would let you have a play. I had a PSR S9000 Pro and jumped for the T5 in a heartbeat. The Genos is heart and soul above the T5 and I hope the next Genos will be another great improvement. Give one a try, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
I changed my mind, because I used a Ketron SD90 for accompaniment, the number of different drum accompaniments is limited, when I use a Tyros 3 style with the SD90 drum kit, it sounds better, than the internal drums, but not so good, as Ketron drums. So I bought a used Genos 1, so it has everything of my PSR S970 and Tyros 3, it has also additional styles, I can also do style assembly, that a soft ballad can be in the bridge very powerful.
Just bought last month a near mint used genos from my friend (hé bought the genos 2). Payed much lesser than the used shop price, and i love the sounds of the genos. Comming from de Roland G70 and Roland fa08. Even the Genos is hard to beat. Also many thx for your inspiring video's.. Greetings from Holland.
@@LeighWilbraham Everyone plays 'Lounge music on these keys-lets hear them ROCK--I bought a Korg Oasys when they first came out-$$$$$$--now they can be bought for about 2 grand ---BUT I think it's still the KING--we will see what happens with the GENOS
