PSA!!! Secretariat was faster than Seattle Slew, Man o' War, and Spectacular Bid. Last year marked 50 years since he set records in all 3 Triple Crown events. All 3 records still stand today. His son Risen Star won the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. At the time Risen Star won, his time in the Belmont was second only to his sire Secretariat. Risen Star's time is currently the 4th fastest Belmont of all time. Secretariat's grandson A.P. Indy (son of Seattle Slew) is tied for 2nd fastest currently, with Easy Goer also being second to Secretariat. Easy Goer resided in Secretariat famous Stall 1 at Claibourn after Secretariat passed on. Also remember that Secretariat ran a distant last in both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness before circling the field and driving to the front in the middle of the track. He had to cover a lot more ground going 4 horses deep to set these records. In the Belmont, he took an early run to the front and set not only the track and Belmont Stakes record, but the US and World records for the 1 1/2 mile dirt distance. He unofficially set further distance records with Ron Turcotte standing in the irons to slow him down. One fact that people forget is that he set the Belmont Stakes record in 90 degree weather with 100% humidity and he was only lightly sweating where the leather touched him. 1 hour after the Belmont, there was a ground shaking thunderstorm, punctuating the significant day. 2MM thoroughbreds have been born since Secretariat raced and none have been able to beat his times or his beauty. On FB someone has cloned your account and are using your videos. I tagged you in the video.
@@daemonember Secretariat did in fact have the largest heart every found in any horse of any breed. Sham, his 1st cousin, had the second largest at 18 pounds. Secretariat's heart was about 2.5 times larger than the average TB heart and 30% larger than a draft horse heart. He also had super-sized lungs to help feed that heart. His girth strap had to be custom made, his chest was larger than draft horses. An additional advantage was he was left footed on a left turn track system. So, like in the Preakness, he could speed up on tight turns while other horses are slowing down for the turns. He also had a short back and was short coupled, so he could really get his back legs under him and propel himself powerfully forward with his massive hind quarters. The Bold Ruler sloped coup also added to his speed in that his hind legs could get further under him for more thrust potential. Also, his hind legs worked more in tandem than most horses, increasing his power. I see this in other top runners like Arrogate and Flightline (who is a double Secretariat descendant). One additional advantage is that Secretariat had the very rare double suspension transverse gate. He had 2 flight phases instead of one and horses are fastest in the air. So, he ran more like a cheetah than a horse, Justify (another double Secretariat descendant) had this same gait. Secretariat also dropped down when he was looking for speed. He became a guided missile. Only the legs and head moved. His body was stationary. Grandson A.P. Indy inherited this drop-down style of running.
@@thelmadickinson6811 I didn't go to the Derby and Oaks last year. I cannot watch real time races since watching the Ruffian/Foolish Pleasure match race on TV as a kid. I did go to Kentucky in November 2023 for the Secretariat Park Dedication. I got to talk to the 2 artists and the daughter of Secretariat's owner and show her my mare (double descendant), who looks a lot like him, color, 3 socks, round rump. Got to visit all of the major stables that I had time for. Got to pet Flightline, 2022 World's Best Racehorse and his super sire Tapit. I am not sure why both barns singled me out to pet both horses, but I got a great picture of Tapit giving me the stink eye when I stopped petting him. My own mare is in foal to Tonalist, a son of Tapit and 2014 Belmont Stake winner.
I had a friend here in NM who trained a son of Slew. Great colt. I saw him win his first race. Loved that colt! I got lots of cuddling with him one summer.
I knew nothing about horses, except for having an admiration from a distance and I have learned so much since subbing. On another note, Katie is probably one of the most beautiful women in the world!
Hi again KATIE Hang in there! Things are coming together and besides you love every single second no matter. It's what you do and you're super good at it. Especially wonderful when you get those gorgeous ones but they're all God's extra special gifts to us horse lovers... Can hardly wait! Thx a bunch for sharing as always.
I knew there was a reason I like Indy! I’m a hugh Seattle Slew fan. I loved that horse and the day he won the Triple Crown was one of the happiest days of my life. He may not have been pretty but he was special 💙🐴 and he was the only undefeated Triple Crown champion!!
Just so you know... Secretariat remains the fastest horse in history. Bear with me, though i like ve them, I know nothing about breeding horses (lions are a different story!). If Gracie's test showed everything is thankfully fine, could there have been an issue with Beyonce's embryo that caused Seven's early delivery? I know she's had many babies before, but I couldn't help wondering.
@@Sandstorm89483 I think it depends on how you look at it. She reached a higher speed at one point during a race but wasn’t able to maintain it. Secretariat still holds the world record for 1 1/2 miles on a dirt track. So even though she clocked a higher speed during a stretch, she still would have lost to him in the end.
@@Sandstorm89483 She achieved the fastest speed for a TB but it was a short distance. She is still alive, but we don't hear much about her. I have to wonder if something was involved. More research is required. The classis are much longer races, and they are not usually meant to be sprinted. Secretariat sped up in each 1/4 mile in the Derby and ran each 1/4 faster than the previous quarter. This NEVER happens with horses. They slow down at the end, not speed up. Additionally, in the Belmont, his half mile time was even faster than his Derby split. This also never happens at the Belmont distance. Had he used his 3-year-old speed in a short race, his speed might have been blistering. Quarter horses have faster initial speed to TBs, but like the name, that speed is only good for 1/4 mile. Secretariat, sat on the back of the starting gate and moseyed out of the gate and determined his race from there.
As far as I remember Secretariat still has the fastest time. Slew was the first triple crown winner after Secretariat. So from ‘73 to ‘77 there were none.
I know one horse that had twins at the college barn I worked at, both survived birthing but one passed away after a while (some matter of weeks I think, but it was a long time ago). The other was fine though and so was mom, thank goodness. It was a big deal for a hot minute though and a lot of the professors were peacocking around about it.
No, by the time you are confirming pregnancy and discover it's twins it would be too late to do embryo transfer. If you were already doing embryo transfer and flushed 2 embryos you potentially could use them both if you had 2 recip mares ready to go.
Her vet reminds me of my canine/feline vet (I have multiple vets), with the way he dresses, talks, and even acts. Only difference is their names, my vet is Dr Bryce vs Dr Matt lol
Seattle slew was the only horse that had won the triple crown undefeated so he had never lost a race before he won the triple crown until 2018 when justify did it also so he was a pretty awesome horse
Girl, you need to have a large laminated calendar in your barns and start a color code like who's been bred and who is confirmed and which cycle they're at etc? I wish I could afford to gift you that. Maybe somebody else read this and gift to you.❤❤
I used to live in a neighborhood where all the streets were named after famous race horses. The only way I know that secretariat was faster is because I had to watch the movie named after the street in my neighborhood. 😂😂😂
I need to hang around with Nate when he goes to visit with the giraffes 🦒 that would be such an education for me!! Not that I don’t know a lot already lol
By the time you're confirming pregnancy it's too late to do embryo transfer. You also can't flush just one so if you'd been planning embryo transfer and flushed 2 embryos you'd need 2 recip mares ready for embryos.
@@samiam7819I wanna add to this, so I hope you don’t mind ☺️. When doing an embryo transfer, if there’s twins you can’t flush just one, or put one back in the mare. You have to have 2 recips synced up.
The amount of ads for pregnancy tests I got on this breeding video was honestly quite funny😂not that I’ll ever need them speaking as a lesbian that wants to adopt😝
Question Katie with that foal alarm let's say if you are in Australia and that will it still send u a alarm set off even if you are that fair away from home how do I go about getting all that stuff the box the resever and the foal alarm??????
