As AMERICAN IDOL XIII enters a landmark season in January 2014, the search continues to find amazing talent from across the nation. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, and featuring judges Harry Connick, Jr., Jennifer Lopez, and Keith Urban, along with in-house mentor Randy Jackson, the series empowers contestants and viewers to share their voices in deciding who will be America's next singing superstar.
Every year, tens of thousands of hopefuls from across the nation audition for a shot at stardom. The show's judges will travel across the country including stops in Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Detroit, MI; Omaha, NE, Salt Lake City, UT; and San Francisco, CA, in search of the next AMERICAN IDOL. They narrow down the competitors to a select group of semifinalists who sing their hearts out each week in front of a studio audience and television viewers.
The judges have their say after every performance, but it's the viewing public that determines who will advance to become a finalist and who will go home. Telephone, text message and online voting begin immediately after each live performance show, and the results are announced during the following night's live broadcast.
Eventually the competition is whittled down to two finalists who compete for a major recording contract with 19 Recordings and the AMERICAN IDOL title. Past winners Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery Phillip Phillips, and Candice Glover, as well as fan-favorites Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, Chris Daughtry, and Katharine McPhee, have all become household names and made their marks on the recording industry.

It is wonderful to find such terrific comments about a man I've been a fan of for a good 20 yrs! I watched a RU-vid clip called "Harry Connick Jr. Puts Mariah Carey In Her Place." I was Shocked by the comments. People saying he had no business being a judge because he's "old school". That people didn't know him because he wasn't talented. Someone even had the gall to say he was a fraud! He is a genius- yes I looked it up and he is a Mensa member. I loved the clip where he put that girl in her place. I have always hated how most judges, except Simon, will sugarcoat a no to someone that can't carry a tune in a bucket. I like that Harry knows it's better to tell them now instead of allowing them to continue on thinking it's gonna get them somewhere. He was right when he said they come there to audition. They know what their getting into and he feels he should be honest. But he's a southern gentleman that knows how to say no and not have you run off crying like Simon did. I was over the moon when I found out he was going to be a judge. I watched a clip last night of him on David Letterman... he was 21. At 22 he did the soundtrack for "When Harry Meet Sally". Of course he was playing jazz in a nightclub on Bourbon st. when he was 13. He recorded his first album at the ripe old age of 10! Some of the famous Jazz musicians from New Orleans played with him on that album. Who's Harry? He's a breath of fresh air and Idol has needed that for Years.

My *graduating* *glass* *was* *1982*. Since *Harry* was *Not* *born* *until* *Sept*. *1967* his *graduating* *class* Would Have Been *1986* or *1987*, depending on the cut off date for school enrollment. As far as him being a product of nepotism you obviously don't have a clue what that is. The definition of *Nepotism* is *The* *practice* *among* *those* *with* *power* *or* *influence* *of* *favoring* *relatives* *or* *friends*, *especially* *by* *giving* *them* *jobs*." His father, Harry Connick Sr. is well known for serving as the district attorney of the Parish of Orleans, which contains the City of New Orleans, from 1973 to 2003. Harry's mother was a lawyer and a judge in New Orleans and later on was a Louisiana Supreme Court justice. She died of ovarian cancer when Harry Jr. was only 14. If by some chance his father was able to open some doors for Harry, Harry would have had to make it on his own from there. It's not like he got him a job at the courthouse. . I Googled the *sites* *you* *suggested* and it's a *Bunch* *of* *Bullshit*. . I have followed his career for 25 yrs now. I have seen him in concert on several occasions. I can tell you, Without a Doubt, the man is *No Fraud*.

My dad walked in... He asked, "Who's that?" I told him. Then my brother walked in and asked my like 20 times, "Who is that guy?!" My mom walked in and asked how those two don't know who he is... LOL

@@dgoley4412 I'd say do a little more digging into Harry Connick Jr and his musical upbringing in New Orleans. The guy's a jazz piano prodigy and now virtuoso. He's a classic crooner. His level of musical knowledge and understanding is far beyond Keith Urban or JLo. They're all great, but HCJr is far and above the other two.

I feel like it's perfectly reasonable for younger people not to know Harry. I only knew him as an actor for quite some time before I looked into his background and discovered his singing.

How does anyone become a musician of any kind...singer, pianist, sax player, lyricist, composer...whatever, and not know who any of the greats musicians are or were? Besides that, Harry Connick Jr. is hardly an antique!!! These morons must only listen to one type of music which is why they'll never make it through the auditions.

Whether or not Harry Connick is someone you listen to...you know who he is! I guarantee you that anyone who has recorded pop music or gone to the movies or watched TV in the last 25 years knows who he is. Where or not Beyonce, knows Lara Fabian, the fabulous Belgian-Sicilian vocalist who is very famous in Europe...but has charted releases here as well, is hardly the point but I'd be willing to bet even someone like Beyonce knows who she is. Whether you consider someone great or not you still know who they are...if you're really into music. The sequence was meant as an aside..a joke...a source of fun! Look who they interviewed! I remember these auditions and anyone who knew their stuff didn't need to ask who Harry Connick, Jr is.

***** My answer was absolutely clear and understandable! Why you didn't get it, I really cannot say. I never said anyone should know someone simply because I know them or I think they're great! Musicians and people who know music...know Harry Connick, Jr.! That's it. He's not in my CD collection nor even in the category of my personal taste in music but I know his artistry! Discredit someone's work? What ARE you talking about? Look.... nevermind... you're obviously pursuing an entirely different tack than I am. YIKES!
