THIS !! they’re both great. with covers like these, it almost feels like trying to compare nine inch nails vs johnny cash in their versions of “Hurt” . NIN is more blatantly grim and brooding and fits their general musical aesthetic, but cash’s is more toned down, more somber, only added onto by the fact that he’d lost june shortly before recording. they’re both masterpieces in their own ways.
Billie has that teenage angst, screaming in a pillow type vibe, whilst Kelly sounds more mature and tragic, her cover reminds me of adele somehow. They’re both so different and for that reason I cannot choose. Edit: thanks for all the sweet replies! Y’all are amazing
They're both stunning, it's just about vocal training. Kelly is classically trained, hence the vibrato during 'Alone', And Billie is more Grungy and emotionally powerful.
How can you choose?!? Really! I want to say Kelly by a hair, but I really think it would depend on my mind at the time. Kelly has the anger & anguish, but Billie has the rage!
I dont understand why its always a competition. They are 2 different people with 2 completely different voices. Both giving beautiful renditions of the same song in different ways
Right??? Doesn't matter what it is...music, politics, religion, you name it...some asshole (or an entire group of assholes) always wants there to be division amongst the people.
It's not really a competition, it's just a thing saying who do you think sang it better? They are both amazing but some want to see who others think sang it better
It is the way someone sings a song is what keeps the fans happy. Emotional connection to a song always makes it better then just singing the words. You can feel it in your soul.
NAILED it with this comment. It’s like Billie falls in love, gets hurt, sings this song……..then Billie gets older, same person comes back into her life, she lets them in and they do it again. This time, Billie gets even and puts them in their place for the final time via Kelly’s voice, which reflects clarity and wisdom. Boom. Done. Lmao.
I was about to say something stupid to this comment until o really understood what you just said. Perfect way to describe it couldn’t think of anything better
Kelly was in the middle of an ugly divorce so she definitely was feeling it - I think she even changed a line or two to fit her story. She released the full song on her 6 song Kellyoke EP - encourage everyone to listen to it (and the other 5 songs, as well as her new album Chemistry - whew! Major talent).
You can’t compare the two. Sure, they’re the same song. But their singing styles are so different. Billie’s is more real and raw, But Kelly’s is more technically clean and very powerful as well. I like them both for what they are
I kind of don't understand why you say Billy's is more real it's so auto-tuned and produced it's her song and she kills it but it is 100% auto tune and produced where Kelly is just singing it with her own raw emotion as well with no Auto-Tune.experience is her production
@@rinkle396 its literally not "so auto tuned" like what are you even talking about it sounds like a real voice.Maybe there is some auto tune and you havd no idea about the Kelly and what you assuming for
Billie's sounds like a teenager going through their first heartbreak, Kelly's sounds like someone in their late 30s going through a divorce. Both are good, just different.
I’m pretty sure Kelly didn’t cover the song for dumb people to start comparing and saying that she’s better than Billie. She was trying to tribute Billie by covering her song. They both have different styles and singing.
They give different vibes. Billie’s is more like hurt and pissed as hell and on the brink of madness. Kelly’s is hurt but resentful and on the brink of crying. Honestly for vibe, I choose Billie’s.
@@Gabriel-nw6lb I’d have to agree, I don’t think Billie’s sound is considered unique at all. The breathy soft sound is caused by poor technique and lack of breath support to fully reach the note. Artists like Taylor swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina carpenter, Anne Marie also adopt this kind of style. If anything, Kelly had a more unique style, even for the 2000’s where she peaked. I think a lot of people favor Billie for the sole reason of age and relatability. Both stood for similar things, and both got famous young. However, many girls can relate better to an 18yr old (not sure on age) than someone who’s been in the industry for decades now.
@@kirstinweber3250 Truer words have never been spoken! My nieces likes Billie, and it’s apparent. And by agreeing and saying these, we don’t mean offense to Billie. If anything, she did a great job doing what she likes, successfully as well! Just stating facts. Because sometimes, we’re afraid to face the truth, and in the course of time, we became blinded by it.
I think exactly the opposite!! But do understand. Kelly's is deeper, more soulful, and Billie sounds exactly like who she is, a troubled young kid...kind of psycho even, especially when she laughed. It wasn't a joke when the song was written... And being that a Foo Fighter died just then, so inappropriate...
Kelly made the song her own. Kinda has that since you’ve been gone vibe. Billie’s original intention for the song is an anthem about teen love, while Kelly’s is like a wife finally getting a divorce.
Exactly. Like, this song resonates with so many different phases in life (the sad and tough ones). And it manages to convey what each phase throws at the person.
They both sing the song w/ a sense of freedom. But the nuances come in how Billie sings it with the freedom of someone in self-discovery finally accepting themselves; whereas, Kelly’s version exudes the freedom of someone fighting back and finally standing up for themselves. Both absolutely beautiful and powerful!
^perfectly said. And it’s honestly what music is all about. We love songs for what they mean to us and the emotions and memories they elicit. It’s a testament to the song that it resonated with Kelly and her unique life experience despite being many life stages apart from Billie.
Kelly sang it like a singer. Billie sang it like a rockstar. Period. Edit : I'm sorry if I didn't phrase it right. I understand rockstars are still singers, I meant that billie has the energy a rockstar would have. The emotion and energy. Kelly has the beautiful vocals and did a great cover of billies song. But immediately I thought billie sang it better. No hate at all to Kelly, I've heard her songs and they are my childhood. Just personally billie sang her song better. Xxx
I prefer Billie, she has a special sound, but Kelly obviously also has a gorgeous voice, for me it's to different to compare. Awesome in their own way's
billy has more emotions, well obviously its her song, she knows how to sing it. kelly has more power in her voice, well, shes a professional singer. i say billy bcos of the way she sing it.
@@stardewfestival billy is not nearly as classically trained or vocally skilled as Kelly what? Lol And I love em both! They're both professionals in the music industry, but not both professional SINGERS. Billie doesn't have the vocal range or control of many people. Most pop artists don't. She's not gonna outsing Kelly, Jennifer Hudson, Whitney, Celine Dion, etc
@@arcdave2735 the song is supposed to be about a person who is sick and tired of her narcissist boyfriend/ an ex. and kelly is not giving that, although the control of her voice is so good and how she belted it. but billy knows how to deliver it what supposed the song is like, because she wrote the song.
I personally found that Billie's version is what I preferred. She brings a different set of skills and and a emotional level that very few people can do
Billie sang it like she's already over it and she's now happy. Kelly sang it like she was still hurting so much. Both were great, both gave me goosebumps ♥️✨
@@FletcherHillier kellys’ sounds like a trained, skilled & talented vocalist was performing it, instead of a singer/ songwriter who isn’t as vocally adept.
@@hueybridwell7756 If you like that then yes, I don't like Kelly's style though it's too stale. It would be easier for me to replicate Kelly's pitch perfect version but that's not the song. This is art, it's subjective and messy. Some people like reprints and some need it to be original, but most art is actual trash.
Billie was literally in her own concert... She obviously will enjoy that in her own unique way... And I liked Billie's... (Correction: It was Grammys not concert.)
They both have their own very unique voice sound. Billie’s whispers can send chills through my body. But the way Kelly can belt is incredibly good and has always been her specialty
They are completely different styles. Can’t compare different styles that easily. Billy has more of an airy way of singing, Kelly Clarkson has more of a flowy type singing. Bille tends to put a bit more ‘sad’ vibe in her voice, it has more emotion. Kelly Clarkson here has a stage voice on, more to show her voices abilities. Now I know these aren’t like musical terms but that’s how I feel it is personally.
@@SparkyGecko Oh of course you can, but when it comes to saying which one is better it’s really just personal preference. Objectively you can’t truly compare them and say which one is better on a level that includes every person on Earth and have it be the same answer. It truly just depends on the person as some might like the emotion that Billie Eilish tends to portray. Others might enjoy Kelly Clarkson for the way she displays her voice. It’s honestly hard to compare them without having so many mixed answers that it gets confusing. Not to mention the people who would throw in a third option, it’s just difficult to compare them and not expect thirty different responses. I mean no disrespect, I just think it’s hard to properly compare completely different styles and objectively say one answer.
Kelly has better vocals but I feel like Billie’s fits better with the vibes of the song. While Kelly sounded like a precessional singer hitting a note, Billie sounded angry and upset, almost as if she’s yelling.
It’s Billie’s song. No doubt her style and constant improvements are what make the original so good, but at the same time Kelly delivers it so cleanly and clearly that you cant not be impressed or amazed by it. Definitely a win for both singers IMO.
@@Gabriel-nw6lb what’s cringy is that you feel obligated to say its “cringy” when you don’t know the terms that people use to describe vocals without educating yourself on the topic beforehand and making irrelevant remarks on something you clearly don’t know of
I love both. Their delivery matches themselves. Billie's like a teenager/young woman and Kelly's a grown woman so I can imagine different scenarios to go with their singing despite them singing the same song. Billie gives off "Leave me a lone, I just want to have fun" and Kelly gives off "Leave me alone, I just want to move on" If that makes sense.
@@caitlynn-zj8jf So the teen is very angst they're going through a phase its almost like a temper tantrum in your pillow. Like really Frustrated. In the heat of the moment. First heart break anger. The divorce mom is like a wounded woman who is processing everything, and when a women is done that is it. Its calculated, thought out, raw. No going back.
@@SabriinaX6 thanks but hasn't billie also gone through a lot. Just because it's not the same things as Kelly doesn't mean she hasn't been hurt. Billie is only 20 I believe. She never thought she would make it to 17 though
@@caitlynn-zj8jf I am not discrediting what Billie has been through, of course young people can go through a lot of truma and mental health issues. And I'm sure she has had her share. All I meant in terms of how they cover the song that Is the feeling I get when they sing this version of the song 🎵
